Cost of Mounjaro over a year

I need to loose around 35ish kgs to be healthy BMI. I’m over 50 and toying with starting MJ. I understand that the cost goes up as the dose goes up. How much do you think 12 months worth would cost? I’m just trying to see if it’s in my budget. Thank you.

It depends on a few factors.

Who you choose as supplier, how you titrate up.

I've probably spent around £800-£1000 in 6 months.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/10/2024 18:54

Confused nope. I pay £206 per month with boots (which is more than other providers) and I think it's been the same for the 2.5ml up to the 10ml I'm now on

And I'm saving about a £100 a month in food/alcohol

Searchingforthelight · 22/10/2024 18:54

You'll spend so little on food!
And if you have nice smaller clothes you can get back into, offset that against the cost too

It's much cheaper than it appears, when you take the above into account

I was buying sandwiches at work, having a weekly takeaway- neither of these are necessary or even possible on Mounjaro

Look at the discount threat under this topic for best cost

AugustMounjaroTeam · 22/10/2024 18:56

I figure if someone offered to make me a normal weight for £2.5k, I’d bite their hand off - so I’m at peace with the cost.🤣

Moier · 22/10/2024 18:56

Worked mine out to be £1,900 over 12 months.
I've took my first 10 last night.
So 12 weeks in and two and half stone down.

NCfor24 · 22/10/2024 18:59

You can share referral codes to help with costs.
You can get a bonus dose out and make each pen last 5 weeks.
I don't know what I've spent but probably about average of £130/£140 a month but I've saved maybe £50+ a month on food and alcohol, possibly even a fair bit more if I'm honest.
For me, I don't feel particularly out of pocket doing Mounjaro and I'm not flush by any means!

healthybychristmas · 22/10/2024 19:24

I worked it out to be under £1000 for six months in order to lose more than three stone.

I would've paid double.

healthybychristmas · 22/10/2024 19:25

And you'll save a fortune. You won't want to eat out, eat takeaway, eat any sweets, drink any wine. Your meal size will be halved at least.

olympicsrock · 22/10/2024 19:27

I’ve spent £700 in 6 months and lost over 3 stone. I’ve saved that money in food and drink which includes eating out much less and saving costs when I do eat out.

I see it as good value for the health benefits .

SilenceInside · 22/10/2024 19:41

There are websites that compare the costs with discounts and referral codes. There's this site:

www.missmounjarouk.com

There's another but I can never remember its name or URL. Someone will probably post it!

The lower dose pens can be around £100 or so with introductory discounts. Higher dose pens can head towards the £200 mark. If you are happy to change provider frequently you can use referral codes each time to get a discount each time.

I'm in my 16th week and currently on a 7.5 mg pen, having done 2.5, then 5, and then two 7.5mg pens. Just ordered my third 7.5 mg pen.

I have definitely saved money on my food shopping and on food and drink related incidental spending.

@SilenceInside do you mind me asking how you got on with 7.5mg? I am taking first jab tonight and am feeling a bit worried. I do feel ready to move up as been craving carbs for first time this week. Did it feel different to 5mg?

PrincessPeache · 22/10/2024 19:48

It’s cost me £400 so far to lose 35kg. I’m expecting another £600 for the next 5 or 6 months to shift the last 30kg.

TheGoingGetsEasyAfterItGetsTough · 22/10/2024 19:48

To avoid disappointment with no one using your code (because it isn't guaranteed and you may have to keep spamming codes here and there to get just one unless you're lucky) and you not getting discounts, I'd budget £150 to £200 each month (If you get it cheaper, then it's a pleasant bonus). So about £1800 to £2400 for 12months.

Here's the other website that compares prices.

Ive spent about a grand for around six months worth. I still have nearly two pens unused and always get five weeks out of each one. Started mid June, I’m 3 stone four pounds down.

Guessing £2000 for 12 months to lose going on for double what I have?

SilenceInside · 22/10/2024 20:01

@Whoyoutakingto I was worried about moving up to 7.5mg, as I had an incident of unpleasant side effects on the 5mg pen. So I used my first 7.5mg pen to move up doses by counting clicks, so did 5mg, then two doses in the 6 range before doing a 7.5mg as the 4th dose out of that pen. I also had a 5th dose of 7.4mg out of that pen. I've done another 3 weeks of 7.5, not had any side effects and had plenty of appetite suppression. Almost too much, which is why I'm sticking with 7.5mg for the meantime.

Darlinghag · 22/10/2024 20:01

I think the highest dose pen with ASDA is £209. I second that you make money back in less food shop money.

Well, less so in food shop for me, but a ton in all those little things, takeaways, top up shops, meals out. Its probably at least the cost of the pen each month tbh.

NewDogOwner · 22/10/2024 20:01

I am saving that amount in food each month. It does balance out.

Tohaveandtohold · 22/10/2024 20:13

I’m not really saving on food because what I’m not spending on chocolates for example, I’m spending it on more variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc and dh has always been the foodie, he works out a lot and eats a lot too so it balances off for him.
However even I still think it’s worth it. I have less than 30kg to lose but nothing I’ve tried works. I’ve been this weight range since dd1 was born 11 years ago so even though It’s not increased, nothing I’ve done has shifted more than 5kg of my weight but with this, I’m so hopeful.
I plan to be on it for 25 weeks hopefully so 5 pens, I just treat it like some sort of payment plan or finance that I have to pay for 5 months and I’ll buy the pens on pay day.

Whoyoutakingto · 22/10/2024 20:16

@TwoBlueFish I have had 3 different pens and have spent £120, £130 and £132.
Using the”bonus doses” this covers 15 weeks. I have shopped around as it is quite an out lay. I have not eaten or had the desire to eat any chocolate, crisps or cake. I have not wanted any fizzy drinks or sweetened coffee. So that saves me money no takeaways (would only have maybe one a month )I don’t drink but many say that they don’t like it anymore. So these things do balance it out a bit.
I have lost two stone in two months which took a full twelve months on WW so I am more than happy with the cost so far. I hope you do well if you take the plunge.

Whoyoutakingto · 22/10/2024 20:18

@SilenceInside
Thankyou for sharing 🙂

WeAllHaveWings · 22/10/2024 20:22

Counting current pen that will take me to week 20 I have spent £520 including P+P on Mounjaro, works about around £26/week, I probably spent most of that on takeaways, Pepsi Max, Crisps and Vodka!

I am lucky I have responded well to the medication and got what I wanted so far on the lowest doses.

If you need to go up doses it will starting jumping up more.

TwoBlueFish · 22/10/2024 21:08

Thanks all, lots to think about.

i don’t really eat sweets, glass or 2 of wine a week, takeaway every couple of weeks, no sugary coffees, don’t drink soda. Crisps tend to be my downfall, but as I’m the one doing the shopping I’m just buying less of them. I do eat big portions of dinner and snack while cooking (toast, slices of ham, fruit, chocolate, crisps, basically anything I can find). I’m also quite sedentary now.

I managed to loose about 20kgs about 5 years ago just from calorie counting and being more active but life got stressful and I put it all back on. I’ve been trying the same again but just go up and down the same 2 or 3 kgs and my willpower is pretty much non existent. I get so much better though and all my joint pains have come back.

thank you all, will keep on researching

@WeAllHaveWings could I ask what dose you were referring to here? Thank you.

CoverMeInMarmalade · 11/11/2024 08:35

I worked out, assuming Oushk prices (cheap but not the cheapest) and assuming I always use the 5th 'bonus' dose that the prices per month were:

2.5mg = £116
5mg = £123
7.5mg = £139
10mg = £147
12.5mg = £170
15mg = £178

So, assuming you spend 2 months at each dose before moving up to the next one, that's about £1750 per year.
