Unchilled Mounjaro Delivery

I've just received my next mounjaro pen. It's room temperature, not even a little bit chilled. So I phoned Zava to complain and was told it's perfectly fine to use. I'm not at all happy about this as I thought it was important to keep it chilled...apparently not.
Has anyone else had a similar experience to this?

It can be unchilled for 28 days, so if you're injecting it today, it should be fine.

I never keep mine int he fridge once I've started a pen, and I've had no issues.

I think they're assuming you'll be using it this week, so not storing it in the fridge for longer-term storage and later use. For long-term storage it should be in the fridge between 2 and 8 degrees C. Once open, it can be stored at room temp for 30 days.

I don't need it for another two weeks yet so does this mean that it's no good?

I'm inclined to think if you put it in the fridge now, it will be fine. The reason you're supposed to keep it chilled is to slow down bacteria growth, but if it's unopened, I doubt that will be a huge issue. But, maybe get back on to the provider and see what they say?

I personally would use it, if you put it in the fridge straightaway. The chances of it being above 8 degrees for any length of time, if at all are slim at this time of year. Were there cool packs at all, and insulation? Did it take several days to get to you?

It's taken three days to get to me and although there was a cool pack and insulation it was no longer cool, just very wet. I put it in the fridge straight away and will use it but seriously unimpressed with Zava...

That's a shame. I find it best to time it so it's not likely to be sent out over the weekend. But, I think it will be fine to use if you keep it in the fridge from now on.

Doggymummar · 21/10/2024 13:23

It needs to be under 23 degrees, it will be fine. It doesn't need to be chilled or reiterated in winter

SilenceInside · 21/10/2024 13:31

I had one delivery which came a day earlier than I was expecting because they processed my order almost immediately and so there was no one at home and it went back to the depot. Delivered the next day, the cool packs were melted and the pen was cool but not cold. Put it straight in the fridge and then used it as planned about a week and a half later, had no issues with it at all.

I think yours will be fine too, fingers crossed.

You cannot just assume that is the reason. This drug is a synthetic polypeptide and it will be sensitive to temperature and temperature changes, particularly when suspended in a preservative solution to be used over a period of time.

You could try asking Eli Lilly at the contact option on this link what they recommend and what the risks are - I would guess the pen would be safe but perhaps less effective towards the end of the 30 days but its worth asking the question. There must be a reason for their instructions in the link.

I am in Scotland so a longer transit time and warm pens is why I moved away from ZAVA.

I have had warm pens and they are definitely less effective.
I kicked up a huge stink and got replacements, once from Curate and once from ME.
