Questions about doing the bonus dose…

I did my 4th 2.5mg dose on Monday and was planning on a 3.75mg dose from the last of that pen next week for my 5th dose.
Is there likely to be enough left to do this?

Also if I’m attempting the hard twist method, am I going to be able to turn it to 1 plus another 30 clicks to do it in one go? So 90 clicks?
Or will I have to do one 2.5mg then turn it another 30 clicks to do the remaining 1.25mg (if there’s enough to do this)

How does it usually work?

I think the pen will only allow you to take another single dose out of it with the hard twist method. A combination of limits on the pen's 'clicks' as well as the rounded end of the pen means you'll never get it to push out all the liquid inside.

If you want more than a single dose, I think extracting it with an insulin needle is your only option.

An ok. Where do I get the right syringes and needles?
Do you just inject the same way?

No idea what insulin syringes/needles are like!

Or could I try the hard twist to get the 2.5mg from the 2.5 pen, then 15 clicks from the new 5mg pen?

But then I suppose I’d lose the bonus dose from the 5mg pen as would be over 30 days by the time the 5th dose came along.

Trying to get the most out of the pens to keep cost down!

To get the most out the pens, I'd use a syringe for the final dose.

There's loads of info link from the long running thread (the one on Part 22) but, in particular, this page covers the bonus dose and makes suggestions for what needles etc.

I wouldn't break the seal on your 5mg pen early to get 15 clicks out as you will then run into different decisions to make at the end of that pen with the discard 30 days after first use instruction.

These ones are the ones I use.

No you’re right. I’ve ordered some syringes and will see how much I can get out. Hoping to get a 3.75 dose 0.9ml, as I’ve been careful with priming.
But as long as it’s more than 2.5 to give me step up towards the 5 I think that would help.

Any tips for getting the last bit out?

I inject a little bit of air in to lift the plunger and then only insert the needle in a tiny way through the seal to get it all out . When you have you can tap the syringe to get any bubbles to the top holding it upright and press slightly on the plunger to get a drop out to make sure the air is out.
I injected 0.9 mls once and I went slowly as it’s a bit more liquid to absorb than the normal 0.6mls.

D’you put the needle all the way, but at an angle? Or straight in, but not all the way? It’s a fair bit longer than the normal needles.

You can buy 8mm syringes, I have those but even they look too long to me. I haven't had to use them yet as hard twist has always worked for me for a final full dose (once it was 6 clicks short which is tiny), I am not bothered about getting every drip out (3 pens).

If you have a 12mm syringe you don't need to insert it all the way in, somewhere between 4mm and 8mm would be ideal, but it means looking and judging it which I couldn't do as I am a needle wimp.
