Moral support needed… Mounjaro stopped mid injection!!

i desperately need to lose weight and have been prescribed Mounjaro. It seems the perfect solution to me however, I’ve just gone to inject my first dose but have quit half way through due to anxiety over possible side effects. I’ve gone out for a walk to clear my head and assure myself that I’ve researched the side affects and being obese is also not doing me any good. Has anyone else had this? I want to go home and finish the injection. Not even sure you can now do this?!!

When you say "halfway through" what exactly do you mean? Do you mean that you were literally mid-injection, with the needle piercing your skin, but you only pushed the plunger down half way, rather than all the way so that the dial indicator returned to 0?

Or do you mean you got halfway through the steps, and stopped before you actually injected?

What state is your pen in currently - what is showing on the indicator window, is there a needle still attached?

Thinking about it, it might be better to leave this week as it is, and do the injection properly a week today. Then you will know exactly where you are at from that point onwards.

Hi, it's okay. Just breathe. Did you twist the injection knob up to 1? If you did and you stopped halfway through injecting, it means it hasn't gotten to 0 yet which is where each dose ends after injecting. You can simply insert another needle, don't twist the knob again, just inject (push down) till it gets to 0. That should give you the full dose. 🙂

Edit: Crossposted. Yes if you've not injected at all, you can take your time and wait till you're fully ready to go through with it. If you've already injected halfway, I'd finish it the way I wrote above. It's okay to be nervous but you're on the right track to better health.xx

No I have injected half a dose… I turned the needle to one, followed all the instructions etc and I think my anxiety about allergic reaction just overcame me so I thought ahhh stop now. I still have a half dose left and I do want to take it I think I was just over reacting ?

Just to be clear I wound the injection to 1 then pressed it half way down (with the needle inserted into my abdomen as per instructions ) but I only got half a dose in and then took the needle out.

Ok, then I agree with @TimeToLoseItAll you can take off the used needle, put a new needle on and administer the remaining injection until the indicator is back to 0.

I think your strategy to take a moment, go for a walk and have a rethink is a really good coping strategy, hopefully you're feeling ok about everything now. It is all very unusual the first time that you do it. I'm 15 weeks in now, so have become very used to doing the injections!

3wDavid · 14/10/2024 14:04

So, I’d put a new needle on, jab myself again and finish plunging the plunger till it goes back down to 0. That’s your full dose done.

Thanks so much for your advice

I took half a dose the first time and it worked well this week with no side effects.

MoleAndBadger · 14/10/2024 14:08

You can easily purchase more needles from on-line chemists and from Amazon.

If you find the most recent "Continuing Mounjaro" thread, then there is a link in the OP of that to a website with lots of useful information about Mounjaro, including a link to purchase the correct kind of needles. It's point 11 on the Pointers for Newbies page.

Ive been on MJ since April and now am up to the highest dose. The only side affect I have is about 24 hours after the first injection when I go up a dose and I just feel a bit sick/have been sick occasionally. No other side effects and completely manageable as I inject on a Friday morning so Im at home on the Saturday if I feel a bit rough. I had HG in my pregnancies so think I am just a bit prone to puking! But this is nothing compared to 8 months of throwing up 10 times a day x 3 babies.

Taking MJ is the best thing I have ever done for my health - I wish I had done it years ago.

Keepitup88 · 14/10/2024 14:32

Thanks everyone I have now finished administering the first dose with a new needle. Fingers crossed for a safe side effect free journey for me and everyone else x

Mine were about 7p each from the chemist.

NewLifter · 14/10/2024 17:38

Well done op!! You may well find that the MJ helps to reduce your anxiety - it certainly has for me. Wishing you an appetite -suppressed side-effect-free week!
