Liquid coming out of pen when I primed it

Hi
I'm a nurse so pretty much au fait with injections!
The first time I used the pen, I primed it, small bubble of liquid at top of needle - all fine.
But the second time, liquid squirted out- what went wrong?? I followed the instructions as I did for the first time.
Worried I haven't had an actual dose now.
Do you get it primed and ready a different way after the first dose?
Thanks!

Do not worry, sometimes you'll get more and sometimes just a drop. You will have had a full dose, just used more of the priming allowance in the pen. I assume the amount is down to the individual needle 🤷‍♀️

Ok, thanks, @IReallyNeedThisToWork
I'm already having to start the 2nd dose earlier than a week as effects seem to ease off after about 4 days!

That happens quite often. I wouldn't mess with the schedule so early on tbh. It will build up in your system quite quickly.

Have you heard of the app Shotsy? I really like that it creates a graph approximating how much is in system at any point 👍

Thank you. I looked it up and you can have next dose as long as you have a 4 day gap?
Am only on 2.5 and it seemed to work great for about 3 days but then seemed to wear off.
I'm hoping it improves once I'm up to 5mg.

The 4 day gap is safe for one offs, such as when you've taken one injection late but want to stick to your original schedule or if you're changing the day you inject on. It isn't for you to just decide to inject after 4 days because you're impatient and don't want to follow the proper dosing schedule.

It's frightening that you're a nurse and don't understand the concept of drug half life and letting a medication build up in your system to see an effect. You're one week in, get a grip and wait and see how it goes before you start misusing the medication.

No you shouldn't be doing this! Be patient and let it work.

You only prime it for the first dose if they are the same as Ozempic/Wegovey pens?

Second and further doses you just wind it round till you can't wind it any more and inject.

Ah, thank you!

No, you are supposed to prime each time to make sure you don't have a faulty or bent needle.

SilenceInside · 12/10/2024 16:46

Mounjaro pens say to prime each time. It's worth doing just to check that the needle is not faulty and that it's properly attached.

Bournetilly · 12/10/2024 16:58

That is what’s meant to happen.

KitsyWitsy · 12/10/2024 17:46

You can take it after 4 days if you want. I did as it was wearing off so took it early on the 5th day. I’m only on the 2.5 though. I use shotsy to monitor my levels.

People are so funny on here on adhering strictly to the 1 week schedule but happy to mess about with everything else. I see often on here people really struggling at the end of the week but hanging on or eating bad stuff until the week is up. Madness.

Also, my best friend is a pharmacist and I follow his advice.

Yes, I follow clinical advice as you do! Some people are funny.
I'm only on 2.5 so will move up to the 5mg a little sooner than a month. Hoping I get a more effective result with a higher steady state (to reassure the naysayers!).
