Oh my days....the side effects

Oh god I feel like I've been run over!

First injection yesterday morning, felt ok yesterday and think the suppression kicked in by the evening, although I was very busy all day. Normally get in from work around 10pm and snack, piece of cheese, chocolate biscuit etc and didn't want any of those.

Didn't sleep great but woke up at normal time, but by god I ache all over! Top of back, behind shoulders all the way down, my legs, joints everywhere hurts!

I'm also freezing cold, so have taken neurofen and gone to bed. Need to be ok by 5pm to go to work. Can't face food, but drinking lots of water.

Thing is I'm not sure if the aches and pains are injection related or not.

As a way to kick start my healthy living, on Tuesday I went to the gym for the first time in 4 weeks and did strength training-probably lifting too heavy for the first time back, then yesterday after I injected I did a 5km fast walk.... Additionally most of the household has had a really nasty cold/cough (possibly Covid?) so it could be a combination of all of these things.

However if it is the injection, well no wonder you lose weight, I feel absolutely shite and there's no way I can face food currently

For people that have had similar side effects can I ask if it's like this every time you do the jab? Or does it get easier as you go along? If what I'm feeling is as a result of Mounjaro- I'm not sure how long I will carry on if it's like this every week.
And do the side effects wear off through the rest of the week?
Please reassure me it gets better!

Was it prescribed by a clinician?

Tohaveandtohold · 10/10/2024 12:01

I only started on Saturday and I did have lots of aches and pains in my joints, etc. Issue is that I also started weight lifting and some strength training the week before just to kick start things so I can’t say what is the main cause of the pain. But otherwise, I feel good in myself

Was it prescribed by a clinician?

Yes MedExpress, all done legitimately, photos, ID etc

Always best to speak to the prescriber about side effects as they have the best understanding of your medical history, and any other medications or medical issues that may exacerbate side effects.

PineappleCoconut · 10/10/2024 12:25

I had aches and chills after the first dose & was equally worried.
But found on Reddit that many had had similar.
By day 2 the aches had disappeared, and I I haven't had them in last 6 weeks. Although I have still had chills after some doses.

Yes I think I will, there's a support number I think which came through on an email.
Will also force myself to eat something as the nurofen has kicked in and although I still ache, i have warmed up a bit and feel I can crawl out from the bed!

Tbh it sounds like how I am at the start of covid. Have you knowingly been in contact with anyone who has it?

killamounjaro · 10/10/2024 12:47

Thanks @PineappleCoconut that's reassuring

I've just done a Covid test, and it's negative so it's either exercise (which I've always maintained is bad for your health - hence the situation I'm in!) or the injection

I have a lot of problems with dehydration on Mounjaro - supposedly it increases the secretion of sodium and other electrolytes. My signals that I'm getting dehydrated are muscle cramps and headaches, followed by feeling spacey. I had some really stonking migraines on my first weeks on Mounjaro until I worked this out. Might be worth trying an electrolyte powder/tablet (or even some coconut water with a pinch of salt added). It might take the ache away. It works wonders for me. I usually take electrolytes preemptively on days 1-3 ish after my injection now.

Well, I'm not taking Mounjaro, but I ache all over! Top of back, behind shoulders all the way down, my legs, joints everywhere hurts! I'm also freezing cold, so have taken nurofen and gone to bed. Can't face food, but drinking lots of water is pretty much spot-on for the bug we all had last week.

loveydoveyloon · 10/10/2024 13:23

You may have DOMS

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

You dont feel it until 2 days after - I started a bootcamp once, was fine next day, the following day however, I could not move, best thing to do is try moving through it

However, Mounjaro. I was extremely thirsty, headaches and cold when I first took it. And I had to force myself to eat, little and often.

Sounds like you're coming down with a virus tbh, given how quickly it set in.
