How quickly did you move up doses?

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 08/10/2024 17:41

I know it's a minimum of a month to move up to the next dose but how quickly did you do it. Did you move up each month until max dose or did you do it more slowly?

I moved up as needed. As long as a dose was working, there's no need to move up. When it stopped working, I moved up and stayed there.

Roughly how many months on each dose?

I did a month of 2.5 then a month of 5mg, but then I had some side effects so was a bit nervous of moving straight up to 7.5mg. So a did a month of moving up from 5 to 7.5mg in stages using the 7.5mg pen that I had. I'm sticking on 7.5mg at the moment because I've got no real side effects and the suppression is still quite high. I will stay on 7.5mg for as long as that's still the case.

Roughly how many months on each dose?

I had 1 month on 2.5mg, 2 months on 5mg, 1 month on 7.5mg, then back to 5mg and stayed there. 5mg works well for me.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 08/10/2024 17:56

Thanks. That's really helpful.

itwasnevermine · 08/10/2024 17:58

I did 5 weeks on 2.5, 4 on 5 and now I'm between 5 and 7.5

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 08/10/2024 17:58

I did 4 weeks on 2.5 and am now in my 12th week of 5mg. Trying to decide what to do next...

Waiting9 · 08/10/2024 17:58

I have spent 1 month at each dose, as per the standard titration guidelines.

I’m starting 10mg next month, plan to start 12.5mg in December and 15mg in January. According to my weight loss trackers, I should reach my goal weight in December/January. So after the 15mg pen my plan is to work my way down the strengths to wean off/maintain

Lola3034 · 08/10/2024 18:08

I just have done my 10th injection of 2.5. I used both bonus doses from 2 pens. My next pen is 5mg will see how I do on that one. If anything goes wrong ie too many side effects, I am planning to count the clicks and do 3.75mg

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 08/10/2024 18:09

What's a bonus dose? Are there 5 doses per pen instead of 4? Oooo that might make things cheaper 😂

OP posts:
Snozzlemaid · 08/10/2024 18:10

I've done 5 weeks on 2.5mg, 1 week of 3.75mg, 9 weeks of 5mg and 5 weeks on 7.5mg so far.
I've got another 7.5 pen to use next as it's working well at the moment.

I have attached the standard schedule, this is generally what pharmacies recommend unless you’re suffering from side effects.

You’ll find that online discussion on this tends to be linked to how much weight overall you need to lose and saving money.

For me, the minimum weight I need to lose to go from Obese BMI to Healthy BMI is 18kg. This level of loss could be accomplished in 6 months.

Therefore to me, the cost of each dose isn’t really a problem as I won’t be on the medication that long overall. An extra £20 for a higher dose isn’t going to break the bank.

However some people may be on their journeys for longer as they have more to lose, so it’s more cost effective for them to stay at lower doses for a longer period of time.

Studies do show that you lose more weight the higher the dose. Also be aware that 2.5mg isn’t intended to be a therapeutic dose (it’s a starter dose to help your body adjust to the therapeutic doses).

I feel a bit dim asking but how do I use the bonus dose without reusing a needle?

itwasnevermine · 08/10/2024 18:16

@JemOfAWoman I get sent 5 needles with each pen! But I also have some insulin needles because the hard twist never works for me

There is guidance from pharmacists to stay on as low a dose as possible that works the best, or something like that. It's not necessary to move up each month if a dose is doing what it should for you, but you can if you choose to. There's also a saying/question from some of the pharmacists that when you race up each dose monthly and you get to the top and it stops working, what next?

People are going by what is working for them through personal experience. It's not really a money issue or about how much you have to lose.

You can buy extra pen needles to use the hard twist method or insulin syringe to get them out.

Sadteacher · 08/10/2024 18:29

I am doing 4 weeks before moving up. I feel fine on them and am not losing rapidly or anything. I think I have a cast iron constitution!

What is your source? I got my information from Chemists4u, but a quick glance shows it’s mirrored at Asda, Zava, MedExpress and Superdrug, Simple Online Pharmacy.

I find the language you use to be quite hyperbolic. No one is “racing up” each dose - it is how the medication is actually directed to be used. What pharmacist is stating otherwise? It just sounds like you are parroting things you’ve read on forums! Frankly I find this online culture of mixing your own Mounjaro dose/microdosing to be bizarre. I’ve never seen other medications where people are so resistant to following the instructions…

SilenceInside · 08/10/2024 18:39

@Waiting9 the pharmacy that I use specifically states each time I reorder that I can move up but I can also stay on the same dose or even move down. It's offered to me, by the pharmacy. I'm not resisting following the instructions, I'm choosing from the options that the pharmacy are giving me.

You're being unnecessarily aggressive in your posts so I'll be bowing out. There's no need for the hostility. I thought we were just having a discussion but clearly not. You have no idea about me and how I do things - I'm not the only one who's used the term "racing up". You already have your mind made up about how perfect you are when it comes to this and how imperfect others are. Have a good day and have it your way.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 08/10/2024 18:42

I've followed what was advised by the professionals.. the chemist and my nurse.
So I've done 4 X 2.5mg
4 X 5mg.
3 X 7.5 mg ( one more to go).
I've lost exactly 2 stone in those 11 weeks.
No side effects at all.
I stopped eating fried/ fatty/ spicey foods.
I stocked up on ( just in case).
Ginger root capsules and tea( for the nausea)
Peppermint oil capsules ( for the burps).
Gavinston tablets ( for indigestion).
Imodium in case of diahorrea.
Not had to use any.

I'm on my third 2.5mg pen currently.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 08/10/2024 18:50

Thanks everyone

I find the suggestion that people refuse to move up due to cost quite laughable. Why would anyone stay on an ineffective dose just to save a few quid, when it still means paying out £££? Makes no sense.

I have so far had;

2.5mg x 4
3mg x 1 (bad side effects)
3.75mg x 8
4mg X1

Planning on trying 5mg this week for the first time to finish my third pen.

If I cope ok, then I will likely do 5mg x 5 from my new pen.

Then will go back to 3.75 for a pen with a view to reducing to 2.5mg for long-term maintenance.

This isn't about cost, I've had wonderful suppression and some nasty effects when I first increased, so I clearly can't move up.

I've lost 36lbs with 7 to go, so clearly I've been doing ok 😂

Trebolle · 08/10/2024 19:10

I've been on 6mg for 4 months. 5 wasn't enough and 7.5 was too much. I use a syringe to extract it from a 5mg pen. The extra dose covers the 6mg.
