Pen needles without second cap??!!

Wheresmysecondcap · 07/10/2024 11:01

I've noticed a few providers don't send needles with a second cap. Almost every video I've watched on how to inject shows the second cap. Having ordered pen needles and from other providers, they all have them too. Why do some pen needles not have them? Are they inferior needles? Do these needles come sealed like the others?

Can i ask, did your needles not come with a second cap and who did you order from?

Med express - mine didnt come with a second cap and made no difference to using it. Some come with it. Some don’t. Wouldn’t give it a second thought. :)

Snozzlemaid · 07/10/2024 11:27

My MedExpress needles didn't have the inner cap. Utterly confused me for my first jab. I thought I was doing something wrong.
My needles from ZAVA have always had the inner cap though.
I've had no problem using either.

Where your needles sealed? Can you tell where they're from? The ones that have the caps show "Carepoint" or "FinePoint". Are they the same as the ones without second caps?

MedExpress ones didn’t have a second cap

yes they are properly sealed and I had no issues with them.

really don’t get why it would be such a big deal?

Wheresmysecondcap · 07/10/2024 11:52

Well seeing as we're dealing with needles that go into my body, I'd assume that if others have second caps and some don't, the ones that don't may not be as sterile, good quality, safe, secure, etc but maybe it's just my anxiety talking. Some things may not be 'such a big deal' to you but are to some people - and vice versa.

Anyway I wanted to know if this was a mistake from the providers or normal for some. Seems like it is the latter. Thanks all.

My 4th delivery from Voy didn’t have the second inner cap. Only used one needle so far so not sure if the other 3 are the same. Puzzled at first but just carried on with my jab as usual.

Xiaoxiong · 07/10/2024 12:36

Same for me with Voy @Bitezbabe - I received some needles that didn't have the inner cap but they worked exactly the same.

I was pleased to see the amount of single-use plastic reduced as well.

Do you honestly think MedExpress and others would stay in business or be regulated by their regulator long if they were providing substandard medical supplies?

Adelstrop · 07/10/2024 12:40

My MedExpress pen was without the inner shield, but I reckon if the main cap was sealed then it's OK,

Wheresmysecondcap · 07/10/2024 12:44

Thanks @Bitezbabe @Snozzlemaid @TheCatterall @Xiaoxiong @Adelstrop for your answers. That's all I needed to know. I think I feel better now. xx

I was also confused by this, and messaged Medexpress. This is the response I got:

Thank you for reaching out with your question about the needles used with your Mounjaro medication. I understand the importance of ensuring that everything is as expected with your medical supplies.

It's important to note that there are various brands of needles compatible with Mounjaro pens. We supply Omnican Fine needles, which are designed without an inner shield. This design feature does not impact the safety or efficacy of your injection. We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact
us.

Wheresmysecondcap · 07/10/2024 12:50

That's very helpful. Xx Thanks @discomongoose

One of my kids gets needles direct from our local pharmacy, on prescription from the doctors and they are 50/50 whether the box we receive have the inner cap or not. I actually prefer the ones without as they are easier use.

Wheresmysecondcap · 07/10/2024 12:52

That's good to know. Thanks @ILikePotatoes xx

They are a bit more environmentally friendly if they don't have an inner shield too.
