What happens when you get to your goal weight?

I’ve been wondering about this.

Do you gradually wean off and then stop?

I love the way this drug makes me eat sensibly and totally cut out the desire to snack. It’s amazing!

I'm still on it and expect to hit a healthy weight around Christmas, but from what I've read, the best is to use the time on it to overhaul your eating and build healthy long-term habits (the all-important "lifestyle change"). Then, when you hit your goal, you taper off and try and maintain those habits after you're no longer on the medication.

I've read some places that people expect to be on a low dose for a very long time, but I'm paying out of my own pocket so I don't really want to be on it longer than I have to. When I get down to the middle of the healthy BMI range and taper off, I intend to weigh myself very regularly so I can take action by reducing my food intake when there are only a few pounds to lose. I also know that I can't ever go back to the way I was eating before and I am thinking of my eating habits as before/after MJ.

I'm currently building the After MJ me - she will still eat lovely food but in smaller portions and concentrating on nutrient density rather than quantity. She doesn't have seconds, doesn't need to clean her plate, doesn't eat between meals, doesn't snack, doesn't have a glass of wine while cooking dinner and then a second with the meal, etc.

I was looking at the packages that some pharmacies offer and I understand that the approaches are:

  • continue at your current dose
  • wean off
  • just stop completely

I’m not sure what approach I’ll take yet. I used to be slim, so ideally I’ll just maintain it myself without medication like I used to. But I realise that what got me fat was my life stress that isn’t necessarily resolved, so I’m open to the idea of continuing medication for a short time period.

I eat healthy food
I probably eat too much
I need to exercise
I need to drink less wine

Still considering WLD
If WLD help me do this, won't I just go back to the old ways when I stop?

Has anyone on these threads got experience of coming off?

I'd love to know too OP
