Work dinners

I'm about to start Mounjaro - I have a couple of work dinners coming up and would prefer not to tell my colleagues and clients that I'm using a weight loss injection.

They are sitting down three course meals so it'll be pretty obvious if I'm not eating...

How do others manage this?

I have a similar challange and I am a couple of jabs into the process.

Eating dinner will be fine I think - it's just the amount and richness of it that may cause issues. If you have any choice over what you are served, I'd definitely go for all the lighter options, such as the fish or vegetarian option if it doesn't look too creamy or cheesy. The fruit option for dessert, that kind of thing.

Eat slowly so that others finish their courses before you, which makes it easier to stop eating yours before it's all gone.

Don't overdrink. Perhaps rely on water a bit more.

Everyone's different so I can't say these will work - but they are my plan!

You still eat on mounjaro, it just gives you the willpower to turn things down or stop eating when you feel full. At a work dinner no one will notice if you eat some but not all your food, at least I find I often don't eat much at work dinners because I'm talking and people don't bat an eyelid.

It makes it much easier to turn wine down too, you'll probably find that you have one glass and sip it. But these days many people don't drink much in a work setting so again, no one is likely to bat an eyelid if you leave half your glass or stick to water.

I usually ask for the pescatarian or vegetarian option at work dinners anyway as I hate being given dry chicken breast!

(Have been on MJ since July and navigated quite a few work dinners in the last month or two)

Why not just say you’re on the injections and consequently your appetite is minimal.

And then pick at it

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2024 10:14

@nootcoffee many people (including myself) prefer not to discuss it at all, let alone in a work context. It's private medical info and also, when you see the judgemental stuff on here said about the jabs when a thread is started in Chat or AIBU, you don't even want to get into that.

I haven't found that MJ curbs my appetite to the point that people notice or comment. I've lost nearly 2 stone and people haven't even noticed that!

I have had several dinners out since being on mounjaro.

I have mostly just eaten meat and veg and left the carbs. No one has noticed.

I had steak and chips and just picked at the chips for example. My friends didn't notice at all.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 03/10/2024 10:18

And whatever you do, do not keep eating if you don't feel like it.

I kept eating at my first dinner out just because it was there and felt horrendous all through the night.

ShineyHappyPeeple · 03/10/2024 10:39

Thanks - that's all good advice. I will give it a go. I've no issue with telling people I'm avoiding carbs but don't really want to share more than that.

I have had some work dinners while on MJ too. I just make sure to choose lighter options, and since it's a multiple course meal I don't finish each course, just have some of each until I feel satisfied.

They won’t know. Look at the menus before you go, don’t order a starter and order the healthiest main, if getting desert see if they have sorbet or fruit salad. You can still eat you just get fuller quicker. If anything just say you are eating healthy.
