Mounjaro double dose

I'm feeling ready to move to 5 from 2.5 and wondering if anyone has taken their last 2 doses of 2.5 slightly closer together as a stepping stone to moving up a dose.

It says you can change the day as long as you leave at least 3 days in between so I'm tempted to take my last dose of 2.5 on day 5 or so rather than 7 before moving up?

You’ve only done two doses - give it a chance to do its job. Why do you say you feel ready?

UglyNess · 30/09/2024 07:34

Mother? Is that you? Wink

In all seriousness, I am really hungry the last couple of days of the week, feel great on it, and wondered if it was a gentle way to work up to the next dose. It's not a double dose really, silly title, but rather placing them closer together.

Ok I was trying to help ! 🫣 sounds like you’ve decided anyway, good luck.

It is advisable not to mess around with dosing schedules AND increases of doses around the same time.

Your "plan" would give you a larger spike with your first 5mg dose than normal, above the usual ongoing 5mg levels instead of 5mg building up over the next 4 week, risking unpleasant side effects.

Be sensible and have some patience.

Portalsalways · 30/09/2024 07:46

Between my first and second I moved it a day earlier. It was fine.

Is this going to be dose 3 & 4, or 4 and bonus dose?

and how long between the second dose and your first 5?

I wouldn’t rush to move up too quickly. People can experience side effects quite out of the blue when they move up. Some people who haven’t had side effects at once dose all of sudden get bad ones. The first 4 weeks is a loading dose so your body gets used to it. So not sure I would rush that process.

Also, the expectation is that there isn’t huge changes in appetite during the first 4 weeks. Some people get suppression but many don’t. The fact that you are getting suppression is a win.

I also wouldn’t do it due to cost tbh either. But ultimately the choice is yours.

Just because someone else has been ok, doesn't mean you will as responses to a big spike in the way you are suggesting are different.

Also it is not a "loading" dose. It is a starter/inital dose, a loading dose is a higher dose of a medication (something like maybe a B12 injection) that then decreases to a maintenance dose, the opposite of MJ where you titrate up.

All good points. I'll hang on and stick to the plan. Thank you 🙏

Showing offset 2.5mg 2 days early, then 5mg 7 days after last 2.5mg.

First 5mg has a larger spike, because of the build up of two 2.5mg closer together, the decreases to normal levels in subsequent doses.

Normally 5mg would build up over the first couple of weeks taking it.

This is why you don't mess with schedules AND dose increases at the same time.

I don't feel as though I understand that post or the diagram Confused my brain hurts!

I'm sticking to 7 days apart in any case

It is essentially saying the medication builds up concentration in your body as the weeks progress, it isn't like, for example, paracetamol that leaves your body fairly quickly.

So sticking to the instructions without increasing doses or reducing time between doses is wise unless you get medical advice and understand the impact, so you avoid unpleasant side effects.
