Mounjaro affecting mood. Anyone else?

Have been on MJ for 6 weeks and have lost 13lbs so far, which I'm really pleased with. I particularly love how it has curbed my sugar cravings by about 90%.

But I've noticed a real decline in my overall mood, I've felt flat and very meh for the last 3.5 weeks. It's probably no coincidence that I've been having the same light period for the last 3.5 weeks too. So it's basically bad PMT, I assume? This is the only side effect I have experienced, fortunately.

I am very sensitive to hormonal changes anyway and have a looooonngg history of severe PMS and PND. Has anyone experienced something similar and did it improve over time. I need to order my next dose next week and just wondering what to do?

My mood has at times been low but I have put that down to all the changes the meds are causing. I used to take great comfort in food, had routines and food was at the centre of it all - so now without it I’m at a loss, but I am getting tasks done and keeping busy. I’m menopausal so the hormonal effects will be different to yours.
I think I’m sensitive to changes in routines and habits - also I never realised how much I thought about food, meals and snacking so there’s a massive gap which I’m happy about obvs, but it’s a big change.

Hey, yes my mood has been very much affected. Initially I was chilled etc but the last 3 weeks I've been very low. I'm already on medication for depression and another MH condition and I was worried. I use Oushk and the pharmacist Hira called me after seeing my post on an MJ thread on MN. She explained how MJ affects the dopamine and said her Husband is now on 10mg and is super grumpy 😂
I have an appointment with my GP on Friday to chat about my meds because I'm not coming off MJ.
I do think if there's some stress or situations in life that would make you a "bit" fed up etc those feelings would increase being on MJ. It's horrible isn't it. Xx

It's affecting my mood but I put it down to not being able to cook and eat - two of my favourite things! And go out for nice meals, and drink bottles of wine with my husband...I'm even avoiding social events with friends - it's actually really affecting my relationship and wellbeing!

I thought Ozempic/Wegovy had a bad effect on my mood but that Mounjaro improved things. I am considering going back to Wegovy due to other side effects but hoping that I was wrong about the mood thing. Nothing is ever straightforward is it. Hope you feel better soon.

I think it can.

Even if it just because it’s taken away a crutch. I eat when I am stressed so started going out for a walk when I feel stressed. Or baked and cooked.

If you eat as a way to relax, deal with stress as a dopamine hit, that’s all going to impact you when it’s taken away.

The first week or so my brain felt really bored. I think because all the noise was gone. Another of my reasons to eat. So I have had to find other things to do.

yesi have been the same and it can cause reduced mood.. Just flat and empty most of the time but know im
Susceptible anyway

I'm not on Mounjaro (yet) so what would I know however one thing I have noticed about myself when I'm feeling down is that if I remember I have something nice to eat (usually highly sugary) I get happier and feel better. Once that thing goes in my mouth I feel my body relax. So maybe this is sugar addiction and you are going through withdrawal?

Newdaynewstarts · 14/12/2024 10:48

pp said it I think. Food is a great comfort MJ takes away the motivation to comfort eat. I miss the false sense and short lived comfort overeating brings. I need other things!

You’re not getting that dopamine hit from that passive aggressive toxic friend- Food.

Go shopping and buy a new pair of jeans or a new top in your new size, that’ll lift your spirits.
