Loose skin on Mounjaro after 5stone + weight loss

Hi all. Almost at the point of ordering Mounjaro for the first time. I need to lose approx 5.5 stone to get to mid-healthy BMI, and apart from a halcyon 10 years from late teens, have been overweight my whole life. Now mid-50’s and need to do something other than slowly creep up in weight every year, and occasionally lose/regain the same 2kg!

I’m aware that speed of loss is variable, but can be considerable. I am fearful of having lots of loose skin after this amount of weight loss, especially on arms. Not too worried about abdomen as no one sees this except me!

Yes, I know that loose skin with a normal BMI is healthier than having a BMI of 38, but…

I also know that everyone’s skin elasticity is different. Mine is reasonable good, very few stretch marks, and I am hoping moisturising, upping weights at the gym, good protein intake and trying to keep a slow and steady loss may help.

Can anyone give a positive experience of reasonably good skin appearance after 5 stone wt loss on Mounjaro? Is there any reason to think skin appearance will be better/worse using this method than “eat less/move more”?

Any other tips?

TIA

Is loose skin caused by losing weight too quickly? If you were careful with exercising and toning would that help mitigate it.

I've lost the amount you want to lose on it , it's taken me eighteen months, and the only loose skin I have is a small amount on my stomach from pregnancy, which I was expecting.

@doodlydooo, that’s certainly what I’m hoping!

Thanks, @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa, that is reassuring that it’s possible. I’m also expecting excess abdo skin as this is my biggest problem area.

I've lost 2.5 stone on Mounjaro and have another 3 stone to go, I've done alot of reading into this as I was also very concerned about loose skin.

The general consensus seems to be that a good multivitamin and collagen supplement are needed but otherwise you'll be fine xx

Watching too with interest.
I've lost 3 stone since the end of May and my only concern so far is my neck, which I am now moisturising like crazy.
I don't have stretch marks, despite 2 pregnancies and being 18 stone before I started this, so I'm hoping I have good stretchy skin that will shrink back without too many excess bits.
I take a collagen peptide powder with my coffee each morning to try alleviate this too, but not really certain if this will help.

I have lost nearly 4 stone (2 lbs away from it!) in the last 4 months on MJ, and have no visible loose skin. I mean things are a little flabby, but I just need to focus on toning and muscle building now, and not so much on cutting. I make it a point to take supplements, protein and collagen.

I've lost 50lbs on Mounjaro since May and would say I don't have any loose skin. I'm in my mid-30s which helps, but I would still have expected some loose skin so I'm pleased with my results so far.

Most people with saggy skin are also on very low calorie diets as they decided to lose weight as fast as possible often without exercise. It you stay on lower doses longer, eat at the higher end of your calories (at least 1600 cals), eat protein, drink 1.5-2l of water and exercise you should be fine. Don’t try to lose more than 2kg per week

quince2figs · 24/09/2024 13:19

Thanks all, that’s so helpful.
Can you recommend which collagen (also how to use) and supplements?
Sufficent calories, protein, water, exercise noted.

I’ve lost 5 stone on MJ since April which was quick. I still have another couple to go but the loose skin is not as bad as I’d worried it would be. My tummy is a bit soft and my inside thighs are a bit jiggly but I’d honestly take that over the extra 5 stone I was carrying. I also know that over time it will tighten up a bit so overall I’d say go for it!

@quince2figs Thanks this was a great question to ask.
