Hair loss and Mounjaro - any experiences?

Have been reading around Mounjaro for a while and am very interested. However, I've heard that one of the side effects in some people is hair loss. Is there anyone here who has experienced hair loss on Mounjaro? It's something I just can't risk, so really need to assess the risks carefully.

Thanks in advance!

I have hair loss and my hair which was already fine is really thin now. It happened quite quickly though and pretty sure it wasn't MJ, more likely a week in bed with covid and losing too much weight too quickly that week.

Hair loss is not a common side effect of MJ, but it is a very common side effect of fast weight loss as you body diverts energy elsewhere to focus on more critical needs, so taking it slowly will help.

I am taking a load of the usual hair vitamins, upping my protein and also taking collagen powder hoping something helps but it is way too early to tell if anything does as it will take months for it to recover.

Thanks, @WeAllHaveWings , I appreciate your reply. It makes sense that the hair loss may not be a direct result of the drug. Certainly if I take it I'll be focusing on eating well and healthily.

I do hope your hair recovers - I'm sure it will. I've had hair loss and it takes a while but eventually the shedding stops and regrowth starts. You've reminded me that I was going to look into collagen powder...

I restocked last night. I am only 3 weeks in so far, and it is the first time I've take collagen as a supplement - H&B have a 3 for 2 and an extra discount at the checkout. I got 3 large tubs of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides delivered for £85 which should cover the next 3-4 months until I see if it is helping.

I have experienced hair loss since being on MJ- and i’ve lost slowly on it- about 1-1.5lbs a week. So I don’t think it’s just the fast weight loss thing. My nails have started crumbling too.

But, my weight is much more of a concern for me, both appearance and health wise. So I’m taking supplements and hoping i get to goal before it gets too bad.

I was dieting before starting Mounjaro and was losing a lot of hair at that point, along with feeling exhausted. However, frustratingly, my weight was refusing to budge.

The hair loss continued for a couple of weeks after starting Mounjaro, but I'd say it's actually improved now at 2 months in, and I'm barely losing any. I also have more energy and I'm losing a steady average of 0.5kg per week.

The only other influence I can think of is that I did start having a daily vitamin drink (Huel daily A-Z vitamins) which might be helping? I calorie count, so aside from that addition I know I'm eating pretty much the same as I was before I started Mounjaro.

@BenditlikeBridget - really sorry to hear about your nails - wonder if this is another side effect? Hopefully your hair and nails will recover in time. Like you say, your weight is more of a concern right now.

@TurtleNest - this is all food for thought. It's good to hear that your hair has now settled. Reckon I'm going to have to think about this a while longer!
