Mounjaro Counting Clicks

I am week 3 day 1, and have halved my MJ dose today to 1.25mg (30 clicks) in the hope of easing side effects. My suppression on 2.5mg has been immense, which I see on MN isn't just me, which is interesting in itself as it's touted as a loading dose. I would rather have more hunger than deal with the light-headedness, headache, reflux, tiredness, fatigue, and general feeling of unwellness that's plagued me since jab 2. I'm feeling so lousy, I'm struggling to work. I can't face exercise. Luckily no diarrhoea, constipation or vomiting, which seem to be the most common sides. Has anyone else chosen to reduce from a standard dose? How are you finding it?

A "loading dose" is when a medication is used with an initial higher dose, then lowered to a maintenance dose (used for things like B12 injections). 2.5mg is a starting/initial dose which is then titrated upwards to get the right dose for the individual.

There will be some super responders who get good suppression and/or negative side effects who might want to try lower than 2.5mg. I think that is a sensible approach if it is reducing side effects while letting your body take a bit longer to slowly get used to the medication.

2.5mg was ok for me with minor side effects (constipation and occasional fatigue) the first 3-4 weeks, but the suppression starting to wear off mid week by the time I finished the first pen, so I moved to 3.75mg and have been on that for 8 weeks so far and not planning on increasing any time soon. I will be taking as little of the medication I need to get the right level of positive benefits vs side effects.

raspberrymeringue · 20/09/2024 15:29

@WeAllHaveWings Sorry I got my terminology wrong, I understand what you are saying. It sounds like you are doing exactly what I am hoping to achieve. I want the most benefit I can get whilst minimising possible sides.

Yes, like WeAllHaveWings does it. I've taken a very roundabout route to get there though! I've just taken my 15th dose and it is 3.75 mg - I intend to stick there until that isn't enough.

The long story though...

I was fine on 2.5 mg and then on week 5 had a bonus dose of 3.2 mg. Decided to then step up gradually to 5 mg rather than doing it all in one go, so took 4.2 mg next for two weeks - in hindsight I was over suppressed with this and should have stuck with it or gone down to 3.75 mg or similar. Next week tried 4.6 mg (55 clicks) which caused me problems so I went back down to 2.5 mg, and then another two weeks on 4.2 mg (didn't feel over suppressed this time), then 4.4 mg (53 clicks)...more problems! So did 3.3 mg (40 clicks) and then 3.75 mg. Now on second week on 3.75 mg (45 clicks). I'm going to stick there until I feel undersuppressed and then do 4.2 mg (50 clicks) until the same happens.

raspberrymeringue · 20/09/2024 19:36

@AboutThem Thank you. It is so interesting to hear your story. I'm so glad to hear that I'm not alone in searching for that sweet point of appetite suppression but not too extreme, with minimal sides. The standard doses make it simple but don't suit everyone.

OP posts:
Strawberriesand · 21/09/2024 08:05

I was having bad side effects on 5mg so I stopped for a month then restarted again. I took the first 2.5mg then counted clicks and take about 3mg and so far it's working perfectly - no side effects and good enough suppression with some appetite.

raspberrymeringue · 21/09/2024 08:16

It’s really useful to see that I’m not the only one finding it hard to get the right balance.

Hi I’ve got Mounjaro 15mg pen but only want to do 5mg how many clicks I thought it was 20 so did that but barely anything was injected🤷🏻‍♀️

It is 20 clicks, so that's a third of what would be a normal dose. It's not going to be a lot of liquid given that a normal dose is only 0.6ml, so 20 clicks would be 0.2ml.

Dmai22 · 15/10/2024 09:53

That makes sense thankyou😊

How are you finding the half dose @raspberrymeringue ? Is it helping you - curious to hear your experience.

I had my first dose of 2.5 last Thursday and had so many side effects. No nausea, but some heart palpitations and bad anxiety. It's made me a bit nervous about another dose at 2.5!

raspberrymeringue · 17/10/2024 18:00

@Ti2024. Hi I stopped taking Mounjaro because the sides were so bad that even trying 1.25mg for a week, was on top of previous 2.5mg jabs that were partly still in my system. I am on holiday and was dreading feeling unwell so I have stopped altogether and intend to restart once my holiday is over. So I’ll be rejoining threads and reporting how I’m getting on when I’m back.

How many doses did you get out of that pen? Wasn't it over 30 days?

UmberLeader · 16/02/2025 18:12

Hi has anyone done 1.25 Mounjaro 2
x2 per week ? So no anxiety

TinyKittenPaw · 16/02/2025 21:45

Hello, could anyone help me understand how to get a 3.7g dose? I’m week 3 day 6 on 2.5.

good suppression minimal side effects.

I’m worried that if I order a repeat 2.5 pen by week 6 it might not be strong enough to work any more - by 5mg might be too much.

Could I order a 5mg pen and get 4 plus 3.7 doses?

You can get a 5mg pen and keep doing 2.5mg until you need to increase. No point going up if 2.5mg is working well for you.

2.5mg desired dose / 5mg * 60 clicks = 30 clicks of 5mg pen

If you want 3.75mg

3.75mg / 5mg * 60 clicks = 45 clicks of 5mg pen.

You will get 5 doses of either of these doses on days 0,7,14,21,28 before the pen locks and before the discard 30 days after first use instructions.

If you do your own assessment/research on the risks you would have enough liquid to do a 6th dose on day 35. If you are taking 2.5mg you should be able get the 6th dose without the pen locking. If you are taking 3.75mg you will need a syringe to extract the 6th dose 3.75mg from a 5mg pen is 0.45ml in a syringe.

I personally would not use beyond 35 days as the risks are too unknown.

goodgodlemon · 17/02/2025 07:54

I keep seeing people using 3.75mg. Has anyone used 4 mg from 5 mg pen. Presumably that would also give you 5 doses? Using @WeAllHaveWings useful formula that would be 48 clicks but I'm wondering why no-one seems to do 4. Maybe too close to 5. I'm just thinking of that extra dose and £ saved

Logically, 3.75mg is more of a natural step up as in it is right in the middle between 2.5mg and 5mg.

IMO the aim/mindset should not be I need to use up as much of the liquid as possible as I paid £££s for it. It should be to get the effect you want with the least side effects and least medication for 4-5, or perhaps 6 weeks (depending on your own perception of risk). If you get the effect you want you are already winning, does it really matter if you used up 2.7ml or 2.88ml of the liquid?

The difference of 0.25mg between 3.75mg and 4mg is probably negligible for most people, although there might be additional placebo effect (never to be underestimated) power from a 4mg dose if 3.75mg isn't hitting the spot.

A 4mg dose of 48 clicks should also allow 5 doses before the pen locks - this would be 240 clicks in total + priming clicks. IME (of counting total clicks in two pens) the pens lock somewhere around 256-258 clicks.

Hi all, I’m on week 1 day 6 and the side effects are horrendous. Anything so eat goes straight through me and I’m so exhausted. Thinking about doing 1.25mg on my next dose! Any advice gratefully received because I can’t go on like this and I’m gutted!!!

SilenceInside · 15/07/2025 08:49

@Vicky4090 either delay your next injection of 2.5mg for a day or two until the side effects have calmed down. Or do a half dose as you’ve said, or both if you think that would work for you.

Thanks I think I will drop down. If I go down to 1.25mg though I will need more needles though won’t I? Do you know where I could get these from please?

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 15/07/2025 23:54

You can buy them from a high street chemist, @Vicky4090. Or order from an online pharmacy.
