Bonus dose question

I've not finished my first pen yet, but curious about the 'bonus dose' if you hard twist and break the pen mechanism and then inject with a needle as usual. Hoping a voice of experience can help. Will you just get a normal 0.6ml dose, leaving a tiny amount left in the pen? Or does the hard twist mean all the left over medication gets injected?

(I know you can extract the remaining liquid with a syringe and can see exactly how much you have - but I suspect I'm too squeamish for that!)

I did it today with my first pen.

It stopped after twisting round to 1 as usual, injected, & I think it was the usual dose, as a very small amount was left in the pen after.

I did it with my first pen. Turned all the way to 1 using pliers and then pushed the knob down. It didn't go all the way back to 0 as the plunger was hitting the glass at the end of the vial. I was around 6 clicks short of a full dose which is negligible and I didn't notice any difference in suppression that week.

Subsequent 5mg pens I have only been taking 3.75mg and can fit in 5 doses without having to hard twist.

How many clicks is 3.75mg does on a 5mg pen @WeAllHaveWings ?

Will happily answer your question but... " How many clicks is 3.75mg does on a 5mg pen" make sense.
Do you mean how many clicks do I do on a 5mg pen to get 3.75mg?
If so 45.

Desired dose / pen strength x 60 clicks = number of clicks

3.75mg/5mg x 60 clicks = 45 clicks

Happycyclist · 19/09/2024 22:43

So much nicer way of saying the same thing...

MetabolismLost · 20/09/2024 06:02

@Happycyclist @WeAllHaveWings thank you both and apologies for my typo!
I did mean dose not does…….proofreading is a skill I need to learn!

Thanks! So you get a full dose and can maybe inject the remaining little bit, with a new needle, if needed. I'll see how brave I get when the time comes!

Thanks, that's useful. I think I might end up doing the same with my 5mg pen - been lucky with some mild suppression and losses on 2.5 with minimal side effects and don't want to increase the dose too fast.
