Mounjaro & miserable - does it get better?

I'm on week one, took the drug x3 days ago.

Day 1 nothing happened, day 2 I woke up in the middle of the night and vomited the entire contents of my dinner.

Yesterday I had sulphur burps half the day, gone this morning and replaced by diarrhea and a gurgly stomach. It reminds me of when I'm sick with gastritis.

On the other hand my appetite is suppressed so working there. Any advice?

I needed to take action but I'm not sure feeling ill all the time is worth it

It may well settle soon. What sort of things have you been eating?

CallyT · 17/09/2024 09:26

@SilenceInside

The night before I was sick I made chicken fajitas. Which I didn't think was particularly unhealthy but at that point didn't feel the suppression yet so maybe ate too much.

Yesterday:
Banana
Small bowl soup & a few chicken satays
Baked potato for dinner with small amount of cheese (could it be this?)

The diarrhea is so bad I can't leave the house today

For today a banana and avocado toast at lunch, haven thought about dinner

My first 2 weeks were a bit grim, on my 3rd and I have a bit of a gurgly tummy but the burps are absent and I do feel better than I did so your body does get used to the drug, I took daily actaemel yoghurts and have been eating small healthy meals plenty of fluids but I also won’t be going back on after this pen is done.

SilenceInside · 17/09/2024 09:34

I had one instance that was similar to what you're describing, on my second dose of 5mg, it did settle down and I've not had any reoccurrence of it so far, now 11 weeks on Mounjaro. I would try eating really plain things, in small amounts and make sure you're still drinking in small quantities regularly. I found protein yoghurts to be something I could tolerate when I couldn't face anything else.

TheShellBeach · 17/09/2024 09:42

If you're sick, or feeling sick, take dimenhydrinate tablets.

50 - 100mg work very well.

TheShellBeach · 17/09/2024 09:47

BTW @CallyT there are lots of Mounjaro threads on here.

Sickofsquishies · 17/09/2024 10:17

I considered stopping or taking a half dose after the second week but I persevered and week 3 onwards were much better. Sometimes your body just needs to adjust.

Sickofsquishies · 17/09/2024 10:18

I also took Kwells travel sickness pills a couple of times and that really helped with the nausea

PonyPlaiter · 17/09/2024 10:23

It could be the potato - my body definitely doesn’t like those. It does get better if you stick with it

Diarygirlqueen · 17/09/2024 16:54

I'm at the end of my first week, the first three days were awful. Diarrhea and sulphu burps, but after that it settled down. I have worked out this week, I can't eat cheese!

LastTimeLosingIt · 17/09/2024 17:37

Cheese was my trigger. Eating it in my old quantities makes me sick.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 17/09/2024 17:41

im 17 weeks in and only just this week have the side effects stopped.

my side effects were constipation, constantly feeling sick, tiredness (was having a daytime sleep) and feeling like I was going to throw up if I looked at food.

i have also vomited a few times.

It amuses me that you keep popping up on threads telling people to take dimenhydrinate tablets 😂

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/09/2024 21:24

Can you try not eating carbs first a few days?
Since starting MJ I haven't wanted to eat carbs at all. I've not had any side effects. Don't know if that is related to

I only want to eat protein veggies plain yogurt& fruit.

That's because they work, and I don't understand why people bang on about side effects from MJ while doing nothing to mitigate their symptoms.

I think some people just prefer moaning to doing anything to help themselves.
Hmm

Hmm

That's a little harsh. Many of us don't like to take lots of meds - and I certainly won't be buying meds off eBay.

Personally, I would sooner stop MJ than end up taking a cocktail of other drugs to try and offset the side effects.

I don't think anyone suffers nasty side effects just so they have the opportunity to 'moan'.

I believe from former posts that you were a midwife previously. When women declined to take anti-emetics in pregnancy (which MANY do!) did you accuse them of just wanting to moan? Hopefully you respected their choice whilst empathising when they complained of their symptoms.

FlappingMadly · 18/09/2024 07:19

Mounjaro works on your blood sugar so carb heavy like potatoes, toast creates a BS surge and the ‘work’ of mounjaro will make you feel off. We barbecued veg last weekend and the corn on the cob caused an uncomfortable night. It was an interesting lesson.
It needs to be offset by clean fibre and protein. So wholemeal toast with avacado and egg. Potatoes with skin on and small amount. Half a medium baked potato with protein and fibre. This is outside of MJ too.
Sorry you’re feeling yucky 💐
Try to distract yourself - keep busy and nausea will subside.
Good luck on your MJ journey. Join the Sept group and have some solidarity.

You can get them prescribed from a doctor. Or buy them in a pharmacy. They're just cheaper on Ebay, that's all.

No. 🤣🤣🤣

jefl011 · 18/09/2024 18:50

Changing injection site massively benefitted me. I was getting awful vomiting and sulphur burps wjen injecting in my stomach. When I moved injections to my thigh all side effects have disappeared but appetite suppression and food noise are still gone.

It does get better hang in there x

I actually think things like these would trigger diarrhoea especially if the med is affecting you that way.

Maybe try eating something dry like bread, chicken or anything without the cheese, eggs (except boiled eggs maybe), banana. Just temporarily if you like. That could help settle your stomach...OR try OTC diarrhoea meds to stop it.

Sunshine2444 · 07/11/2024 18:12

I have been on this for 6 months now my advise to anyone is once you take your injection really limit what you eat for the first two days and also the day before I found protein shakes where the only thing I could have to get me through .
i have lost 3 stone 6 pounds since the 1st of June but im thinking about stopping as just feel so ill all the time has anyone found switching to wegovy ? Made it any easier

Redlightbulb · 08/11/2024 18:13

I am on 7.5 and for the last 3 weeks the day after I have had my injection, I have vomited up my dinner in the middle of the night.
I think the issue with me lies with the delayed gastric emptying.

Sometimes food is sitting in my stomach for far too long resulting in an acid build up. This kicks off acid reflux, excess wind and sulphur burps. Once I have thrown up that one time I am fine for the rest of the week. little side effects.

Orangesandlemons77 · 08/11/2024 18:31

Ginger seems to help me with the nausea
