Hi all, can someone please help. I received my medication this morning and I'm confused. Dr prescribed me this pen for 8 weeks i need to take half the dose prescribed and said to do the clicks but didn't say how many. Does anyone know how many click's would be half this dose?

TIA

Can anyone help please

You can't use the pen after it's been open for 30 days, so I don't know why your doctor told you this.

SilenceInside · 12/09/2024 21:31

There's something wrong here, you need to ask the doctor for clarification. Mounjaro is not usually prescribed by the NHS in England, are you not in the UK?

If your doctor wants you to take 2.5mg for 8 weeks then they should be prescribing you one 2.5mg pen for the first 4 weeks, and then another 2.5mg pen for the second week. The doctor should absolutely NOT be advising you to use the pen in a way not approved in the UK, eg by counting half the clicks of what would be a full dose. One pen can't be used for 8 weeks as this would exceed the 30 days usage limit, which your doctor should know.

Have you been prescribed it for diabetes or for weight loss? What kind of doctor is it?

SilenceInside · 12/09/2024 21:49

"If your doctor wants you to take 2.5mg for 8 weeks then they should be prescribing you one 2.5mg pen for the first 4 weeks, and then another 2.5mg pen for the second 4 weeks" - sorry, just spotted my typo. Hope my post still makes sense!

Time4changeagain · 12/09/2024 21:50

Got to agree there is definitely something wrong here. Surely NO doctor would advise to count clicks and use the same pen for 8 weeks

TheShellBeach · 12/09/2024 22:00

Are you sure you haven't bought this pen from someone?
Because no doctor would prescribe this medication with these instructions.

TheShellBeach · 12/09/2024 22:02

Go to the chemist who dispensed the prescription and ask them.

Doggymummar · 12/09/2024 22:02

You can see on the label it says store for thirty days so that's wrong.

TheShellBeach · 12/09/2024 22:06

OP the instructions on that pen say

"<strong>5mg weekly for 4 weeks"</strong>

So has the pharmacist written the instructions wrong?

Or did someone sell you the pen?

TheShellBeach · 12/09/2024 22:07

You've got this pen from someone unlicensed.

Goodness knows if it's been stored correctly.

They wouldn't. The OP has got this from a friend, or a beauty parlour or somewhere else equally dodgy.

Time4changeagain · 12/09/2024 22:22

@TheShellBeach
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

CiderJabs · 12/09/2024 22:51

OP you're being so irresponsible. Please don't take the drug. You've clearly got it from a mate or someone else because it's illegal to prescribe it "counting clicks" so your lie will not go far and it will put your health at risk. @Ay89 😢

QueenOfHiraeth · 12/09/2024 23:15

@Ay89 If I give you the benefit of the doubt here it would mean you have been prescribed this and, either, given directions verbally that are different to those written on the prescription and told to use a medication outside of its "safe" usage period which is very poor medical practice, or, the pharmacist has made a mistake in labelling. If either of those were to be true you should complain to the doctor or pharmacist as it is not acceptable.
If neither are true then please don't use it as you don't know how it has been stored and are asking about using it in an unrecommended and unlicensed way

cloudymumma · 12/09/2024 23:31

If a doctor has prescribed this, this way it's very strange or it's been done by accident.
Indeed 30 days is the manufacturer limit once opened, the reason is not that it magically goes off in the fridge or degrades like at room temp, it's about bacterial load, every time you use the pen, you push a needle through that allows bacteria in, 30 days is the limit by manufacturer spec, you are in effect increasing the chance of infection each time you use the pen basically compound that with any bacterial growth in the period of 30 days as an example.
Basically
1x1 = 1 +0 out xyz chance of infection
2x2 = 4 +7
3x3 = 9 +14
4x4 = 16 +21
5x5 = 25 +28 out of xyz chance of infection.

is the way to look at it and trust me, you do not want a subq infection.

Snozzlemaid · 13/09/2024 08:04

Buy from a legitimate pharmacy in future.
This is not correct and no licensed practitioner would prescribe this way.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/09/2024 08:15

Your prescription says 5mg weekly for 4 weeks so you should follow as prescribed, but 5mg starting dose is not usual.

Go back to your Dr or pharmacy and query both the starting dose, and the patient instructions to discard after 30 days. Ask for it in writing / new prescription label.

Let us know what they say.

SecondFavouriteDinosaur · 13/09/2024 10:38

I would be seriously concerned that your GP/pharmacy is ignoring the safe usage advice for this medication and asking you to take it in a risky way.

Or that you've got the medication from a friend, or your hairdresser, or just somewhere unlicensed.

You don't know how it was stored, OP.

You're playing with fire here.

🤣🤣🤣

The pharmacy will say nothing, because they didn't dispense it for the OP.

IrisPallida · 14/09/2024 10:03

Do it OP! Whack that drug into your body!

Just get your story right for when you end up in A&E.

Ha Ha, this made me laugh..

OP I would order from a real place, as then you would be sent the correct thing and know its been stored correctly etc..

I have to wonder if op, under a name change is one of the support threads. Wondering why it not working or feeling very ill on it.

Op this is such a bad idea. That dose is not given with instruction to just use half. And you shouldn’t use it for 8 weeks. If you are forging ahead and taking it anyway, please stop.
