Can you explain why you think that you need them?

I use two types of protein shakes:

  • Dose and Co protein and collagen vanilla powder (for homemade shakes)
  • Ufit ready made shakes (for when I need something uber quick/on the go)

I usually do the protein shake in the morning with my coffee and make myself a protein latte. I am not a breakfast person so this works for me. I then usually do gym / 5K so I need some fuel.

For electrolytes I really like Revival (also available on Amazon) - they have a bunch of flavors to choose from. Watermelon is my personal favorite. I do them daily, usually after my workout or sauna. I find they make me feel reinvigorated quicker after a good sweat sesh.

To the poster above, you do not “have to” have either of these, but they do help especially if you integrate vigorous exercise into your routine.

Ready made shakes - UFit, Huel, Huel Black. More for days when my appetite is super low but I need to eat.

Clear whey powder, mixed with water - MyProtein, Foodspring. Daily, to make up protein intake. The MyProtein ones come in loads of different fruit flavours and you can get sample packs to try them out.

Electrolytes - Phizz, daily, lots of different flavours; Liquid IV in the cupboard for the very occasional day (rare now) when I forget to drink or eat enough.

Well you kinda do if you want help with the correct protein. My friend is trying to put on weight. I'm trying to drop fat and build muscle. So we both need different protein powders. I'm also vegan so it can be harder for me to reach my protein goals than a meat eater and obviously I can't have the usual whey protein and need to ensure the protein I take has a full amino acid profile. People take protein shakes for a variety of reasons and which shake is suitable will be dependent on that person's needs.

If someone is eating and drinking so little that they need electrolytes and protein shakes due to weight loss injections then that is seriously worrying and going negatively impact their health. I know obesity negatively impacts health too but there needs to be a balance. These providers need to do more to help the people taking these drugs achieve a healthy lifestyle with proper food not ultra processed supplements.

I've got Purition shakes - I only have one occasionally though, probably once a week or so if I really can't be bothered to eat or just fancy one.

I haven't felt I needed electrolytes but if I did I would try LMNT.

I use high5 zero for electrolytes, and for protein I specifically focus on marine collagen rather than a protein powder and use applied nutrition - I don't know if it's the best but my hair has not fallen out so far and I can't taste it at all, so I'm happy with it.
I also take biotin supplements for skin and hair.
My NHS doctor had no objections to this when I mentioned it at an unrelated appointment.
