Mounjaro diarrhea

So I've just had my fourth jab of 2.5mg on Thursday. I've had no side effects what so ever until today and now I'm having serious diarrhea. It could be related to something else but I'm worried it's to do with the jab and I don't know what to do and if it's normal

It's a very common side effect, most common when you start on a new dose but can just happen as the drug accumulates in your system. It happened to me this week as I went up to 5mg and I've decided to go back to 2.5 as it was unbearable, and I was vomiting too and completely unable to eat.

I don't know if there is much you can do, beyond not increasing your dose to avoid it worsening. I have seen people recommend Immodium, but MJ already interferes with the digestive process by slowing it down (though it doesn't feel like that's happening when you have diarrhoea!) and I would be too anxious to take another medication that slows it down further. Hopefully it should settle.

The best thing to take for this is loperamide 2mg.
Take 2 when the diarrhoea starts, and another 1 after each loose motion.

You can get it cheaply on Amazon. It's the active ingredient in Imodium.

I’ve had it a few times but tends to be short lived although I did have it for about a week once. I’m up to 10mg and having a normal bowel motion every day at the moment.

Goatblu · 07/09/2024 22:45

Not at all. I'm constipated and fed up with it. Moving up a dose soon so maybe that will trigger it.

Choux · 07/09/2024 22:48

Have you eaten something high fat or had a lot of alcohol? These things can trigger it. Try eating bland low fat foods and drinking water until it settles.

Take senna tablets.

im on day 4. lowest dose 2.5 and have uncontrollable diarrhea it's putting me off taking the next injection. I havnt taken anything but considering imodium today as I can't continue the cramps are awful... any advice?

Cantfindanavailablename · 15/09/2024 09:01

Im about six weeks in to mounjaro. I had awful diarrhoea for the first couple of weeks and then the first time I jumped up a dose. Hopefully for most people it stops once they get used to it

salterpop · 15/09/2024 09:10

@Cantfindanavailablename
I'm unable to leave the house as I need to go soon as the cramps start. Is that what it was like for you? I'm just abit worried that I'm having more of a reaction than a side effect

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 15/09/2024 10:23

@salterpop I had a bad bout for a few days (9 actually!) towards the end of my time on 2.5 which sounds much like yours so I do feel for you. I was in M&S once when the cramps started and literally had to speed walk to the toilets 😩

I found I had to rejig my diet a little and it was this that completely stopped the nightly glass or two of wine. I ate more carbs for a couple of days which also seemed to help.

🤞 for you

salterpop · 15/09/2024 10:33

@IReallyNeedThisToWork
Thank you for your reply yes at the minute I'm just trying to drink plenty but also reluctant to eat in fear of the return of the cramps. will try some crackers x

User6874356 · 15/09/2024 10:36

I had this but it passed. Don’t give up op

I think fasting is a good idea but not for too long. I think I had a protein bagel thin with a mere swipe of butter and it seemed to settle my stomach a bit. It was almost like it needed something to 'grab on to' to help it out of you know what I mean?

salterpop · 15/09/2024 18:36

Thanks for your help started with the loperimide today to help with the diarrhea... fingers crossed. I'm reluctant to take the second dose but if this can keep it at bay that will help. I have 4 daughter 2 of them younger 1 that's 5 and a 7 month old so really can't afford to be too poorly with it

I feel your pain, I'm on my third injection and really suffered. I've found dairy to be a huge problem and after cutting this out I have been much improved. I hope it settles down, it's dismal

waddleandtoddle · 15/09/2024 19:19

As someone said above, a very common side effect. I found ozempic worse. Are you actually hungry? My diet has become way more liquid - ie miso with seaweed, tofu and spring onions; gazpacho; more raw and protein heavy - for example popcorn and McDonald's would cause havoc now.
