MJ & Marathon training

Hi

Anyone on here a runner and on MJ?

I'm considering starting MJ but i run approx 25km a week and am soon going to be starting marathon training.

I'm worried I won't have enough energy / fuel to do the distances?

I wondered if anyone had any experiences?

Thank you!

Hi - a bit different as I started Wegovy but for the first 3 months I just could not run further than 5km and I'm an ultra runner. Constantly felt queasy and couldn't take gels or water as I had no appetite. I've reduced my Wegovy dosage now and am running as normal finally but that's 3 months down the line. I'm sure everyone has different side effects but no way could I have trained for anything during that period. Hope this helps.

(In other news, the 3 stone I lost in that 3 month period means I am now running faster than ever!)

I've been trying to get back into running since I got Covid the first time. I used to run marathons and ultras, can't even manage 1km continuous running at the moment. I'm hoping weight loss will make it easier.

I felt too ill with side effects to run the first few weeks, feeling much better now 5 weeks in. My walking speed and parkrun are easier now though, despite having to step right off the exercise.

It depends on how many side effects you get. Some people have next to no side effects, some feel quite ill.

Thank you, read a few similar comments over on Reddit too 😞

Really don't want it to interrupt my training especially as have a half coming up in a month so I think I may have to wait.

Was so ready to order too!

Same boat @MightyHiker! But I don't quite know the answer yet. When I did keto and before I learned to fuel with gels I would die a death (bonk, hit the wall) bang on 2 hours. That isn't happening. But now I have a gel every 30 mins.

I haven't got my day to day eating quite right yet either. Generally I'm not eating enough and adhd means that if I'm not hungry I find it hard to stop what I'm doing to eat. So lunch is the biggest challenge.

I do my long run on a Monday. So I have my injection on a Monday afternoon. My logic being that the mounjaro is tapering down Fridays- Sunday when I can try to eat a little more in preparation for Monday.

Good luck!!

Oh, no side effects here 🤷‍♀️

MightyHiker · 06/09/2024 19:24

Thanks @CuriousRunner
How long have you been on it?
How far are you managing to run and is it affecting your performance?

Its not necessarily the fact you're on injections is the calorie deficit and whether that will affect your energy, you just need to make sure you're eating enough. Perhaps just eat at maintenence while you're training?

CuriousRunner · 06/09/2024 19:33

Agree with @soupfiend. But i had the same concerns before starting. So I get it.

Been on MJ 6ish weeks. Lost 8ish lbs.

Only up to 14km at the moment. I'm not fast. But I've not noticed any down turn in my training
