Hair loss?

Hi new injector here - thanks so much to everyone who has shared experiences which have inspired me to start. I have searched through the threads to see if anyone has experienced hair loss on Mounjaro- it's listed as side effect and I am hoping it won't happen to me as I can't afford to lose hair! I am hoping the health benefits outweigh the risk of unwanted physical changes so I would be grateful to hear experiences both positive and negative

Yes, I'm 5 months in with a loss of about 4 and a half stone and the hair loss started about 3 or so weeks ago. I expected it and you're lucky if you escape it tbh

I'd call it more 'shedding' tbh and your hair tends to thin a little all over. I've experienced it before (it's kinda like a cyclical thing for me- every few years!) and there's not an awful lot you can do about avoiding it - bar not losing the weight maybe!

The drug itself doesn't cause it - it's your body's response to relatively rapid weight loss

Keep well nourished, consider a decent hair supplement (I've taken champo gummies for 6 months - didn't stop it but i feel I'm going something!) and don't panic you'll go bald. You won't. It's not a fun time I'll give you that but it'll start to improve after about 6 months

Not sure why my reply has been hidden! Probably a glitch in the system and hopefully it'll be restored soon!

@BatFacedGirlll same here, I'm coming up to the 5 month mark and it's only been the past few weeks I've noticed my hair shedding a bit. I'll be honest the 10mg dose has hit me hard, I had very few side effects up until this dose but my weight loss has ramped up as well so I'm thinking the two are connected. I've started taking viviscal, I've used it before when I damaged my hair so I know it works for me.

KimFan · 05/09/2024 12:07

Yep, unfortunately the hair loss is real (for most people).

As soon as I noticed it I ramped up the protein, started using Plantur 39 shampoo and conditioner (I wash my hair every day) and already had a really religious routine of a multivitamin, vitamin D, Biotin and Collagen supplements everyday and it has stopped now, thankfully! :)

BatFacedGirlll · 05/09/2024 12:08

@spuddy4 it's rubbish isn't it? And I have long hair which isn't exactly a thick mane. It was just about right tbh and now it's going to thin so yeah, it's disheartening

However, no use worrying too much about it - it will correct itself in time - just a shame it takes quite some time

spinningisthebest · 05/09/2024 13:26

Thanks - I'll pick up some viviscal asap @spuddy thanks for the tip @KimFan which collagen have you found helpful? I plan to keep an eye on my protein and prioritise that.

My hair has thinned more since starting (it was already thin from blood pressure medication and I am menopausal) so I am trying all avenues just now as aware it will take months to see if they work.

Keeping up protein, perfectil hair extra support vitamins, biotin, collagen peptide powder, Vit D spray, Iron spray, zinc, omega 3. Eating more foods that support hair growth eggs, salmon, nuts, lentils.

Hopefully one of them will work! Or if I loose enough I can eventually come off my blood pressure meds and that might help too!

If not I will be posting looking for wig recommendations next!

Another poster recently said they’d been advised to ensure iron intake was sufficient, as this can help.
