Diarrhoea and MJ

I’m coming to the end of my 3rd month on MJ and having lost over 2 stone I’m really happy. However, despite having transitioned to 7.5mg almost a month ago I am getting sulphur burps and had horrendous diarrhoea for the past 7 days despite eating very little and very plain (as I initially thought it was a norovirus).

Anyone else had this at this stage in the journey?

Anyone?

Bumping for the last time!

I'm on 7.5 too but haven't had that. Those sulphur burps are disgusting, aren't they? I've only had them once - at 2.5 mg I think - but a few times I've felt as though my stomach's a cesspit. It has only lasted a few hours, unlike yours. Keep going with it - one good thing about it is that it's only taken weekly so you can't easily change your mind!

TreadLightly3 · 28/08/2024 22:41

Thanks so much for responding. I am really hoping that it’s not my body’s reaction but seems like it might be since this doesn’t seem to be resonating with others

I had my third 2.5 on Monday evening and had terrible stomach pains for a few hours Wednesday evening and have had pain off and on since. I feel quite bloated and gassy. I only ate around 900 calories on Wednesday and 700 yesterday because eating made it worse. I was up 4 times in the night for the bathroom last night.

If this happens again next week I'm just going to stop taking it, I don't want to, but this is having such a big impact.

yjo25 · 30/08/2024 14:47

I took my first 2.5 jab on Tuesday, I've suffered terribly with diarrhoea and sulphur burps for 2 days solid and still feel drained and headaches. I can't afford to lose 2 days a week every time I have a dose so seriously thinking on not continuing incase the side effects don't improve and it's just how my body deals with MJ x

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 30/08/2024 15:14

I've gone up to 7.5 and my stomach is not happy. I'm going to drop back to 5 next month and see how that goes. I never had these side effects on wegovy though I did get constipation and didn't lose as much weight so 🤷🏼‍♀️

EliLilly · 30/08/2024 17:46

I had diarrhoea all week after my 8th dose.

At the time I put it down to going up a sub dose before I was ready, so dropped down (which stopped it) before building back up again. My weight loss has pretty much stalled since then though...I'm on holiday (teacher) and have had a bereavement and I unfortunately discovered I could cope with more wine than I thought I could, so that is probably the culprit. I think I am a bit under-supressed now but worried about getting diarrhoea like that again, especially when back at work! I don't work on Friday so I'm moving my injection time to after work on Thu so if it does happen the worst should be when I'm off work...

My doses have been:

2.5 x 4
3.2
4.2 x 2
4.6 - diarrhoea all week + sulfur burps
2.5
4.2 - diarrhoea for one day + sulfur burps
4.2
4.4 (today)

I didn't have as much suppression on 4.2 mg the second as I did on 4.2 mg the first time round, suppression seems fine so far on 4.4 mg. We'll see. I wish I had stayed on 4.2 mg the first time (as suppression was good, too good even...) and not moved up until it wasn't...but seeing that you have had the same thing having not gone up a dose just before it is hard to say.

Has it gone yet @TreadLightly3 ?

Yes they are sooo rank!! Happy for you that you only had issues that once. Which dose are you up to now?

I didn’t think of staying on the same dose - have decided to give the next one one last shot - 10mg. Which is stuck to 7.5 for a bit longer now. Hopefully these side effects end up being worth it!!

I am going to admit from the start that Im not massively overweight, wanted a quick fix before my wedding

I have been so ill, diarrhoea, sick if I eat anything, crushing anxiety, awful headaches

I've lost 8 pounds in 4 days, but never again, feel like it is my punishment for using it inappropriately

BTW, my partner took part in the clinical trials for it a few years ago. He said depression and anxiety were a very common side effect

TreadLightly3 · 31/08/2024 09:51

Really sorry to hear about your bereavement @EliLilly - hope you’re doing ok.

Shame it’s not working for you anymore. I have finally recovered (fully I hope!) - touch wood it’s been about 72 hours or so since my last bout on the toilet. Thinking about it, I can’t remember the last time I passed something normal if you know what I mean so I’m worried it’s been replaced with constipation now! 🤪

I started getting food cravings like before MJ yesterday which panicked me so I ended up ordering 10mg for Monday (usually do Fridays like you so aiming to have a bit of a break). Just would be so hard to go back to my (lack of) willpower!!!

I hope your plan works and that you don’t have to deal with any more of these blasted side effects!

I'm about to take my 3rd 2.5 jab today.. I'm in the process of bringing the jab back to a Friday.. last week I brought it back 48hrs and suffered from sulphur burps. I was on Rybelsus, and git sulphur burps and vomiting when I moved up to the 5mg tablet.
I bought some peppermint pearls from Amazon that mask the taste & smell of the sulphur burps.
I was prescribed Mounjaro as a last chance before insulin for my type 2 diabetes, so sticking with it for now.

EliLilly · 31/08/2024 10:28

Thank you @TreadLightly3

I'm just losing super slowly at the moment - but that makes sense if I tot up the calories in the 3 glasses of wine I've been having each evening, even if I am eating less. I shouldn't even want 3 glasses of wine - I didn't have any last night and intend to have none now in September as a kick start in addition to upping my dose. The bout of diarrhoea I had just really de-railed me - makes me wonder if I should've just stuck it out and stayed on 4.6 mg regardless rather than playing it safe. Still, if I can get back on track now it will just be a small learning blip along the way. So far so good on the 4.4 mg!

Glad to hear you've recovered now...hopefully you haven't gone the other way and just needed a bit longer to get back to normal from completely empty.

MooFroo · 31/08/2024 19:22

Lots of burps and gassiness here too! I also get stomach cramps and diarrhoea which ain’t fun or pretty - I’m on week 5 of 2.5g and only post around 4-5lbs since starting.

EliLilly · 31/08/2024 19:55

I spoke too soon about the 4.4 mg. I had mild sulfur burps this afternoon, that worsened to the point of vomiting just now, and the diarrhoea has started again. Feel some relief after that though. Seems going above 4.2 mg is a bit of an issue for me, I really hope this isn't as bad tomorrow. Hard to know what to do going forward...

Sorry you've been suffering too @MooFroo

TheShellBeach · 31/08/2024 19:58

Why don't you ask take some loperamide if you have bad diarrhoea?
I can't understand why anyone would suffer diarrhoea for days and days, and not do anything about it.

I had no idea such a thing existed! You think doctors would prescribe it for this issue and not just say to stop taking the MJ?

Its the active ingredient in many over the counter antidiarrheal agents such as Imodium.

I would take it if I had symptoms like this whilst I needed to work or in an attempt to stop diarrhoea that had been going on a while but otherwise I won't - they aren't without their own side-effects and don't get rid of the underlying issue.

I was ill for several hours last night. Lots of gas and bloating throughout - vomited what must have been what remained of my dinner (most of it). Diarrhoea less of an issue. Feel fine today but not keen on eating...may have a protein shake for breakfast...

I will definitely be dropping down a little next week, probably to 4.0 mg. This all seemed like plain sailing for the first 7 weeks...

You can buy it on Amazon.

It's the ingredient in Imodium, which you can buy.
But generic loperamide is much cheaper.
