Mounjaro - Injection Site

Hi, I’ve been on MJ since late July. Every week I get a really itchy injection site which bruises more than I’d expect.

i took saxenda in 2022 but it was hard to get so I stopped after a few months. It was a daily injection and I never had any issues other than the odd minor bruise that I wouldn’t have noticed.

With MJ I realise it’s a weekly jab so more is going in, but every time I get intense itching on the site of injection. I swab the area with the pre jab wipe and do a single twist before injecting (with Saxenda you only did this at the beginning of a pen, but it says to do it every time so I do).

I did my latest one today and it was already slightly inflamed/red 10 minutes after.

It’s a minor inconvenience as the drug has completely gotten rid of any hunger I used to have (I was 105kg, now skirting 99kg and lots more to go) but I wondered if it’s a common thing? I assume it’s much more drug than when I tried saxenda.

Hi, I believe it's a fairly common side-effect to have some jab-site irritation. Nothing to worry about, honestly. I get it too - mine goes red and itchy the next day and stays that way until 1-2 days before the next jab is due. People have used antihistamine creams and say it helps - it seems to be a very minor and normal allergic reaction. Don't sweat it, but maybe grab some type of cream to pop on after so it subsides within a day or two. x

Injections 1-7 I never noticed any reactions at all, but I wasn't looking for anything.

Injection 8 bruised (only noticed when doing injection 9). But I remember it nipped when putting the needle in, not sure if I hit something or the needle was maybe a bit blunt.

Injection 9 I was watching now, it went red, but wasn't itchy.

I did my 10th injection on Saturday and it is red, raised and itchy. This is the first time I have used 4mm needles that came with new pen instead of 6mm with previous pens. I wonder if it is related as not injected as deep so reaction shows on the surface (or might not be related at all!).
