Mounjaro (not Voy) without GP notification

is Voy the only provider who do not notify your GP?

I placed my first order with VOY however don’t wish to renew for 2 reasons:

it’s expensive at £229 unless I can persuade someone to be referred.
i only got 3 doses from the pen as it jammed and VOY are not interested/totally non responsive.

im not being reckless or underhand however I have an extremely poor relationship with my GP and they would be less than supportive and very judgmental

i was about to order with Medexpress however cannot do so without consenting to GP contact.

My BMI is still over 30 so I’m hoping I will be allowed to continue using Mounjaro somewhere other than Voy.

thanks.

@Ed31 There have been a few other threads with people with IBD on Mounjaro, you might find them with an advanced search. I've pm'd you some info.

Others might find this information helpful or reassuring.

It’s Very relevant to me…

Yes, of course, but you’re not the prescriber or your gp. Which is what we are discussing, not how it not being active impacts you,

Hmm

I did one order from Medexpress and my GP emailed them to say I had a history of Ulcerative Colitis so they told me they would no longer prescribe it. I did contact them and say I no longer have UC and haven't had for 19 years as have had a panproctocolectomy. Annoyingly it hasn't stopped them sending reminder emails saying oh you need to order and order the next dose up!

I do feel if you are in remission or the disease is not active they should reconsider working with your GP rather than just right you off. I get the GI disease is for life but surely if your disease is inactive & as in my case for many years it feels very unfair. Which leaves me (as I’ve already mentioned) wondering how they treat people for diabetes with GI diseases 🤔

Private treatment quite often doesn't appear on your NHS record. I know two procedures haven't appeared on mine, can't remember if I refused permission or not.
Personally I wouldn't want my GP to have oversight, mine current one is good. But a couple of the doctors at our practice are shockingly ill informed and out of date about HRT and other things, so goodness knows if they know anything about weight loss drugs. My son has epilepsy and one GP needed a stern talking from our neurologist as he tried to change DS's meds.

I've noticed that it tends to be the big companies that discontinue prescribing, especially MedEx and Boots. They probably have so many customers that they prefer the simpler patients.

The smaller pharmacies are more willing to take the time to prescribe on a case-by-case basis. Did you find another pharmacy @Southwest12 ?

I hope that eventually our Gastro consultants will be in a position to start prescribing or at least confirming to a pharmacy or on our notes that they authorise/ approve/ do not object.

Yes I think it should be on a one to one basis rather than an outright rejection. I do intend trying to find another supplier but I have a months supply of 5mg so will continue with that then after Christmas look into alternative suppliers, hopefully there won’t be a record showing them my prescription has been rejected otherwise I’m truly stuffed.

I do get why some people defend the pharmacies stopping the prescription & the doctors notifying them. From their point of view it’s the correct thing to do.

I have been getting mine from another prescriber since I started in July, Medexpress was just a one off order as they had 40% off for blue light card holders. I answered no to the do you have UC/Crohns question as I don't have it anymore, a panproctocolectomy is considered a cure for UC, and they aren't one that contacts your GP. All the colorectal surgeons I know that I've told about using GLP1s are very supportive and think it's fantastic.

Small update - I received a messaged form Oushk saying we need to book a consultation to see if this medication is right for you but then five mins later an email saying they have approved my order for dispatch. I’ll let you know what happens if I speak to them tomorrow.

I replied to the email with the times I was available to speak to them but the order had already been marked as dispatched and they never came back to me again and the delivery arrived on the date I had requested. Not heard anything since.

I use chequp.com, they don’t check with gp (there’s an option to put it in after they fulfil the order but I didn’t bother). If you dm me your email address, I can put it in on my end so you get £15 off!

Hi is it possible to get a code for chequp from you. No worries tho thanks ☺️

Carly47 · 07/06/2025 17:21

Tiggermo · 17/10/2024 12:35

I was with medexpress and they contacted my GP now they have stopped it because off medication.

Sorry to hear that. Will you try another provider? Did you get a letter or email saying they have stopped? Don’t worry tho

Carly47 · 07/06/2025 17:47

Ed31 · 17/12/2024 11:29

They asked for my GP details which of course I provided them with as I was trying to do this in a responsible way. What I didn’t expect was my GP to have the power to get my Prescription stopped without any kind of communication or consultation with me, it would have been nice if my GP had at least spoken to me to find out more about the reasons I had undertaken taking Mounjaro & discussing it instead of just cutting me off.

Sorry to hear that. Who did you use? Have a look around for another one. People have posted about providers not informing the Gp.Did the provider send you an email about stopping it? Good luck anyway :)
