I have another question, apologies. I'm awaiting delivery of my 10mg pen. I've had zero side effects, and great appetite suppression on 7.5. I've lost just over a stone, which in 12 weeks isn't that great. I also have had zero food noises and am eating less than half what I was, though I wasn't eating enough protein I've discovered. I'm rectifying that as of yesterday. I'm unsure how to proceed. Do I keep moving up? I'm not sure I see the point if I have great suppression on 7.5. I could do more exercise, I've done hardly any due to pain, but that's over now, so I can change that. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you xx

SuperSange · 29/07/2024 07:57

Just to add, despite a not huge loss, I've lost several inches from my body, so am very happy with that too x

Happycyclist · 29/07/2024 08:06

My understanding is that the weight loss comes from reduced calorie intake. If you are getting good suppression I see no point in increasing your dose and risking side effects.
I am sure others may see it differently.

pinkstinks · 29/07/2024 08:54

Morning. Week one weigh in today and it’s 10lbs off!
I can’t quite believe it. I’m starting from a high weight but I have absolutely transformed my diet so I am really pleased with this and ready for week two 💪🏻

WeAllHaveWings · 29/07/2024 09:10

@SuperSange The dose you are on is doing its job for now - it is giving you appetite suppression. If you race up the doses, once your body gets used to the highest dose where do you go next?

The calorie deficit from the appetite suppression is what makes you lose weight, not the MJ dose.

Have you checked your TDEE and how many calories you are averaging over a week? There needs to be a calorie deficit of around 3500 cal lose 1lb. That works out as 500 cal a day, or more if you want to lose more - perhaps 750-800 deficit to lose 1.5-2lb a week which is still a healthy number of calories.

I check/adjust my TDEE/calorie target after every pen.

You might just be a slow loser, which is still heading in the right direction!

Thanks for that. I was just focused on the suppression I think, with it being mental at work. I've got a month or so now to calculate those numbers and give it the proper attention. I'm concerned about not getting proper nutrition, I've been eating so little. I think once I've done this 10mg one, I'll go back down to 7.5, as I know that worked.

CosyNan · 29/07/2024 10:14

Hi everyone and well done on the fantastic weight loss x

I took my first 5mg dose last night and woke up with awful acid reflux ,can't face food this morning . I had 5 weeks on the 2.5 with no side effects at all apart from constipation but daily cod liver oil and omega3 sorted that out.

Total weight loss since June 22nd is 12lb ,that stone is so close ,maybe this week !

Did anyone else notice side effects moving up to 5mg and does it subside week by week 🙏

WheresSummer99 · 29/07/2024 10:25

I’d echo the other comments you still need to eat in a calorie deficit to lose but the MJ makes it SO much easier to do as it suppresses your appetite & for me anyway does something to my hormones increasing my fat loss in a way I just wasn’t seeing with standard CICO & exercise approach. What I’m noticing is my BMR has already dropped 100c which will keep going down as I’m a shortie it makes it really hard to lose when I’m approaching a healthy weight. No one likes living on 1000c a day.

WheresSummer99 · 29/07/2024 10:29

My BMR is now at 1560c per day. So I’ve been eating around 1500c a day but I exercise a min 1hour walk 3m with dog plus I’ll do some yoga or go for a bike ride to use some of that up. I like exercise my adhd brain needs the hit to feel good. I’m losing 2lbs a week doing this with MJ without I’d be lucky to see 2lb loss in a month.

WeAllHaveWings · 29/07/2024 10:41

@WheresSummer99 mine has dropped around 100 calories/day too since starting MJ and you are spot on, long term that is not sustainable (or healthy) and I suppose that is where the "move more" part will come in.

Losing weight loses muscle too, muscle burns more calories, which is where I think strength training will come in, but I am struggling where to start.

Watched this the other day (it is a bit long) some points hits home with me and I liked the idea of 10 minutes a day working different areas making a difference just to start with

I had hoped to see a few 10 minute sessions suitable for overweight/obese to start , but there is only one (which was good) up so far I could currently do (wall planks). The second one was knee planks, I can't get down on my knees as my weight on my knees is immediately very painful and also hurts my ankles. I need to keep searching for something to start once a bit more weight is off.

WheresSummer99 · 29/07/2024 12:33

@WeAllHaveWings if you want to bring in more movement can you walk comfortably? Honestly it’s an easy way to get in exercise - walk 30mins in morning listen to a podcast / book enjoy the quiet and if you can then do another 30mins in evening. Get upto an hour a day walking is really easy way to build exercise in. If you prefer cycling is that an option gentle 20mins cycle or swim 20mins. Build it up. If you want strength training then start with body weight exercises and work on what you can do. If you can’t manage squats yet try sitting down & getting up from a dining chair 20x, do “push ups” standing off the wall and slowly lower your arms say to off the kitchen counter whilst keeping a straight body. I sometimes do 20 squats waiting for kettle to boil. Work with what you can do and modify as you get stronger and lighter you can do more. Hope that helps & not too basic often folk focus on what they can’t do and then do nothing whilst trying something really does help. I’ve restarted doing the dvd The Shred as it’s good strength training & Hitt.

Final day of our holiday and we hired bikes and did 50km. It was so lovely. I made sure to have a big breakfast and I think the fuelling was ok. Really interesting as I used to cycle loads and always had a LOT of food which I don’t really think I needed. @Happycyclist im going to get my fancy bike serviced this week and get back into it! No excuses with the kids off school I can easily get out early

Oh and I also purchased my new pants! I have these ginormous granny pants and I’m utterly delighted about throwing them away. My jeans are also huge I can take them off without undoing the button. They are going in the charity bag too

Thanks for the new thread. This made the mistake of clicking on the link for the ongoing debate about how fat people shouldn't get these weight loss drugs and only meed
to eat less and move more. It's making my piss boil how ill informed and bigoted these people are.

Cycling is a fantastic exercise to lose weight with (if you do it the right way).
I have the advantage of not having to carry my lardy arse around (which helps with my knees) and you can travel quite sedately if you wish.

#Indeed if you are looking to burn fat the secret is to keep it so that you are not to really out of breath but are able to carry on a bit of conversation. Look up zone two cycle training on the interweb.. Low levels of exercise but for longer periods of time are good news ... the bad news is what I look like in tight lycra (although my bib shorts are notably less tight nowadays.
Best of luck.
What type is the fancy bike?

It’s a Cube Axial I love it but it’s been very rejected for at least 18 months. I started in Covid and was up to 150/200k a week and skinny but it all went pear shaped. I hate riding in traffic now but I can do early laps of the london parks

Happycyclist · 29/07/2024 19:20

@Callmejudith Nice bike... But cycling in London! I don't know if I would be that brave... I live out in the country miles from anywhere nothing much but quiet lanes around me.
Great until you want a splash of milk and it is a 7 mile journey.

TheShellBeach · 29/07/2024 19:21

I'm too arthritic to cycle anywhere.
Would one of those exercise bikes do instead?

Exercise bikes are great but you do have to get the seat right to prevent sore knees

@Happycyclist sounds idyllic for cycling!

Blimey @Callmejudith I've already got sore knees.

I think I'll give it a miss.

How about the cross trainer? You can go at a really steady state and I find it much easier on the knees

OP posts:
WheresSummer99 · 29/07/2024 19:45

@TheShellBeach If you have a bike already and space you can use a turbo trainer. It connects to the back wheel and you turn it into an exercise bike. I had cheap one from Aldi during covid & DH had a fancy Bluetooth one. I just used to sit watching iplayer on it in the shed. It can impact the rear tyre so it’s better on a bike your not using outside much.

Happycyclist · 29/07/2024 19:59

Cycling is OK on the knees it's running I can't do... My knees are too loud and I am too fat.

WheresSummer99 · 29/07/2024 20:14

A few years ago i had awful back-disc issues and i was in a lot of pain couldn’t sit properly or walk with out a stick but on a well set up bike - thanks to DH - I could cycle. The GP actually suggested it as it loosened my hip joint helping relieve some pain.

Callmejudith · 30/07/2024 08:14

I am wearing my new pants 😀
