Secret use of Mounjaro, is it possible?

HotCrossBunplease · 22/07/2024 01:49

I’ve got my first Mounjaro pen arriving this week.

Have got to the point where I feel uncomfortable all the time, especially in my abdomen, and I have been advised by doctor to lose weight to reverse Fatty Liver.

I don’t really want to tell my husband that I am resorting to help form medication. I will have to say that I have decided to eat very healthily as we are def a bad influence on each other when it comes to food, weeknight wine etc so he’ll immediately notice something is up when I no longer want to dive into a cheeseboard with him.

If it works I think I might feel deceitful claiming I am doing it all via willpower. Am also worried he will think I’m ill! But I’m just embarrassed.

I’ll also need to set alarms to cook for my children as hunger won’t remind me it’s tea time!

Any thoughts on secret vs open use?

Loving the ingenious ways some have found to keep this discreet.
But how bloody infuriating we have to do so. The ridiculous scaremongering by the media has a lot to answer for.
Wouldn't it be great if we got some positive stories out there instead for a change.
This should be celebrated as the wonderful thing it is for those of us who have tried and failed with weight loss so many times before.

You’ve wandered into the specific weight loss injections board. Plenty of threads on here that answer your questions.

So sorry I haven’t trawled through this site….I’ll whip myself later.
Weight loss is easy….eat less calories that you put out.
It’s the will power that’s difficult.
i know….just lost 3 stone

HotCrossBunplease · 22/07/2024 11:27

Not sure I follow about media scaremongering? Lots of positive reports are mostly what I see.

The utis and the pancreatitis risk put me off

SilenceInside · 22/07/2024 11:51

I think there have been some recent discussions on TV (daytime chat?) about the injections, where they included some very unusual situations to imply that issues were more common than they are.

This is a medicine that has been authorised for use in the UK for weight loss and is already prescribed by the NHS for diabetes.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mhra-authorises-diabetes-drug-mounjaro-tirzepatide-for-weight-management-and-weight-loss

It's not some unregulated dodgy drug, it is just not (yet) commonly available on the NHS for prescription.

I think a lot of the negative sensational stories relate to celebrities in the US using Ozempic rather than Mounjaro, and perhaps using it in situations that aren't what was intended. So a starting BMI of less than 30, with no other health issues. Sharon Osbourne for example has talked of being 10st 2bs when starting taking Ozempic, which would be a healthy weight for someone of her height. No one should have been prescribing any kind of weight loss drug or plan for someone in that situation.

Utis? First time I've heard this. Do you happen to have a link to this claim at all? Thanks!

If you do even the smallest amount of reading about the science behind GLP1/GIP medication, insulin resistance etc, you will learn that, for many people, this really isn't anything to do with will power.

Raddled · 22/07/2024 12:34

Much as I love the idea of millions of people collectively experiencing a sudden loss of self control over the same time period in the same parts of the world it’s just not plausible is it?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/07/2024 12:34

@HotCrossBunplease you are not shit at willpower!

I bet there are thousands of things you have done in your life that prove that! Using this incredible tool we have been given to help you change your life is NOT a weakness or because you are failing at anything! Pisses me off so much when the righteous CICO and willpower brigade start preaching 😁

The saying 'You can't really understand another person's experience until you have walked a mile in their shoes' is never truer than weight loss!

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/07/2024 12:34

@Raddled 😂

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 22/07/2024 12:38

@HotCrossBunplease BTW, I haven't told anyone about using MJ yet. My son has just moved home for 5 weeks so have moved ALL evidence to my wardrobe and hope to keep it hidden. In fact, I'm just heading up for a scoop of clear whey now...😁

I have told my husband but tbh I toyed with not doing so.

I'm of the opinion that marriage doesn't mean you automatically have to divulge everything about yourself that you'd rather not and its fine to not wish to open yourself up to potential judgement

It seems from your OP that he will definitely notice so of course it's your call but doing something for yourself and keeping that quiet is no bad thing

Oh hello @SuperBatFace ! It was your thread that finally inspired me at the weekend to give it a go! Thank you .

Yes I was referring to the recent stories daytime shows have run on weigh loss injections.
I was so incredibly mad watching Lorraine and Dr Hillary spout such utter rubbish.
They didn't mention Mounjaro but people won't realise there is a difference.
The bit that pissed me off the most was their discussion on the excess baggy skin we may get. Lorraine pulled a disgusted face at the thought of us having saggy upper arms.
What an utter cow - that we can do something to improve our health (something we're constantly being told to do) and she thinks it's disgusting how we may look after.
Well sod her, I'll be wearing my saggy skin with pride at what I've achieved finally.

Would love to go wave my flappy bjngo wings in her face!

Lucky for you - well done. Have a medal.

For some of us it's not. I've been on thyroid medication half my life and the insulin effects from Wegovy have made it possible for me to lose some weight .

Blimey. I think it's great to let people know the side effects. I wouldn't want excess saggy skin either.

NewLifter · 22/07/2024 14:29

What's worse, obesity and the health issues that brings, or some saggy skin?

Snozzlemaid · 22/07/2024 14:32

Neither do I particularly but is much more preferable to being obese with the risk of many serious health conditions.
And I'd like to think these days women are more supportive of each other than finding another woman disgusting because of the way we look.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2024 14:33

Excess skin is a side effect of any large weight loss, from being obese into a healthy weight range, so calorie controlled dieting has the same risk. It is not a side effect of weight loss injections. Some saggy skin and a healthy weight is a better outcome than remaining obese or morbidly obese.

@Collexifon you seem to have some sort of massive chip on your shoulder about something.

CiderJabs · 22/07/2024 14:36

@Collexifon why exactly are you posting on a thread asking for advice when you're obviously against the use of medication altogether. Nobody needs your judgement so take your bs elsewhere.

OP I have done this with my DP but I know lots of posters are able to hide. The diabetic cat is my favourite but most people just hide the pen and say they are calorie counting. If you worry your husband will judge you then I agree just hide it for at least the first couple of months.
