Secret use of Mounjaro, is it possible?

HotCrossBunplease · 22/07/2024 01:49

I’ve got my first Mounjaro pen arriving this week.

Have got to the point where I feel uncomfortable all the time, especially in my abdomen, and I have been advised by doctor to lose weight to reverse Fatty Liver.

I don’t really want to tell my husband that I am resorting to help form medication. I will have to say that I have decided to eat very healthily as we are def a bad influence on each other when it comes to food, weeknight wine etc so he’ll immediately notice something is up when I no longer want to dive into a cheeseboard with him.

If it works I think I might feel deceitful claiming I am doing it all via willpower. Am also worried he will think I’m ill! But I’m just embarrassed.

I’ll also need to set alarms to cook for my children as hunger won’t remind me it’s tea time!

Any thoughts on secret vs open use?

I took mine for a couple of weeks before telling dp. Purely because I wanted to prove it was working and to convince him I wasn't just buying some random drugs off the internet.
Managed to keep it hidden at the back of the fridge until I told him.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 22/07/2024 04:17

If you follow the long standing thread about MJ use (think it's thread 17 now) you'll find a number of people didn't tell their husband or other close relatives for weeks or even at all. One poster has lost loads of weight & has the pens visible in the fridge but has told her husband that the cat is diabetic and this is the cat medication.
Others have decided to tell their partner or another close relative on the basis that it is a medicine and, if something were to happen and they were admitted to hospital and couldn't advocate for themselves, their partner/close relative would be able to tell the hospital staff

TimoteiChaletpants · 22/07/2024 04:25

I’ve lost about a stone and a half and DP has yet to notice, granted we don’t live together but…

trimma · 22/07/2024 06:34

I kept mine at the back of the salad drawer in the fridge. No friends or family ever looks there. Same as PP wanted to see if it actually works before discussing it withe people.

Cerialkiller · 22/07/2024 06:41

No one knows about mine. I've just bought my fourth pen.

I hide them at the back of the fridge in a little fortress of cheese blocks (be careful about it freezing against the back surface of the fridge) then in a draw after I start using it.

Tbh the weightloss can be quick at first as with any diet but it rapidly slows down to a pound or two per week (if you are lucky) or sometimes even less so it's not like you will lose it all very suddenly. Also you will visibly be eating less so it won't be surprising.

I have lost significant weight successfully on my own a couple of times in 10 years so my DH knows Its possible for me and hasn't even mentioned it dispite going from BMI 31 to 27.

TerfTalking · 22/07/2024 06:43

Mine’s in an empty Schweppes box in the beer & wine fridge in the garage. I inject in the garage 😀, no one drinks tonic but me so it’s safe. I don’t want anyone to know and I’m eating very healthily so the weight loss is expected.

Mine is wrapped in foil and hidden under the onions in a drawer in the fridge. My teens won’t use lots of onions and I don’t live with DP.

I have told no one and my teens have not asked about the packages arrival with a ‘keep refrigerated’ sticker.

My diet has changed a lot so that explains the weight loss and I don’t think I ever will tell any one unless I have to.

I will be moving in with DP in a few months and I don’t have a cat so may have to steal the idea of an empty food box of something that only I eat @TerfTalking genius.

Happycyclist · 22/07/2024 07:00

Mine is in an empty 1kg Stork margarine underneath another (full) 1Kg stork margarine in the rear of the fridge.... I am the only one who bakes and there is no reason for anyone to look in the lower tub until the upper tub has been used (which will not happen).

Collexifon · 22/07/2024 08:08

Having said that, if I ever took the drugs I would also hide them as I have teen dds and it sends an awful message.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2024 09:00

@HotCrossBunplease I'm one that did tell my partner, mainly because of the risk of possible side effects and wanted him to know just in case. He was a little concerned but asked sensible questions to which I had the answers, and then after the first week or so he's not bothered at all about it. It helps that he is aware of why I'm not hungry.

värskekapsas · 22/07/2024 09:35

i understand it doesn't have to be refrigerated if you use it within 3 months, which you will as it is for 4 weeks. So you can hide it anywhere you want.

There is not shame in it though, people use botox and all sorts of beautifying things with no shame, why is it different .

Doesn't your GP have to know / appeove or can you purchase privately?

It’s private only but they ask for your GP’s name when you buy it. I have no issue with my GP knowing.

@HotCrossBunplease thanks for info x

HotCrossBunplease · 22/07/2024 10:10

PS the GP doesn’t “approve” it though. I imagine it just goes on the record somewhere.

do these jabs stop hunger?
might it be a fact that being overweight isn’t due to eating too much when we’re hungry…it’s because we eat too much when we aren’t even hungry, we just ‘fancy’ a piece of cake/wine/greggs sausage roll/family size bag of revels?
do some people still just eat even though they’re not hungry?

I really don’t understand what these injections do.

SilenceInside · 22/07/2024 10:26

@Gall10 there's a load of information available online about what the injections actually do. And yes, for a lot of people who are very overweight the issue is about eating when not hungry rather than just overeating at mealtimes. That's not a revelation! Surely it's well known that over-eating can be related to boredom, emotional issues, stress and so on??

Here is a summary from one of the prescribing websites about what Mounjaro does.

"The medication contains the active ingredient tirzepatide, which works by activating the receptors of natural incretin hormones GIP and GLP-1.
Both of these hormones increase the production of insulin which is released into your body to lower blood sugar levels. But Mounjaro also affects your appetite by slowing down the emptying of the stomach after a meal.
This action creates a feeling of being full and so makes you feel less hungry, even when you’ve eaten less, which can aid weight loss."

So, I'm using Mounjaro at the minute. I find that I am not hungry at all, or very rarely and not very much if I am. I'm also finding that the effect on regulating blood sugar means I am not getting any obsessive thoughts about food/eating. The combination of not being very hungry and not being that interested in food means it becomes very straightforward to eat less and to eat healthier choices, so no snacking and no overeating at meal times.

They lower your appetite yes. But they also stop you thinking about food, so you are less tempted to reach for the "cake/wine/greggs sausage roll/family size bag of revels" etc

Tirzepatide · 22/07/2024 10:42

My DH does know about mine but I think it would be very easy to keep it from him, if all our finances weren't joint.

Young adult DC (who lives at home) doesn't know. To start with I hid the pen in an opaque box in the fridge, but now I have a mini fridge tucked away in my office out of sight for the pens.

Only one friend knows - we have no mutual friends and live a long distance from each other. I only told her as weight loss is something we were currently talking about and I knew she was considering it too.

I don't even tell anyone else I'm trying to lose weight, let alone I'm on MJ.

You’ve wandered into the specific weight loss injections board. Plenty of threads on here that answer your questions.

Do they make you a bit snippy as well 😉

Why is it snippy to point someone to a huge amount of pre-existing resources?

@HotCrossBunplease just wondering what the reason is for not wanting to mention it to your husband? Your doctor has advised you to lose weight, and this is a tool that you can use, especially if you have found in the past that dieting is something that you find hard to persist with. It shouldn't need to be embarrassing or something to feel judged about.

HotCrossBunplease · 22/07/2024 11:22

Well that’s interesting you should say that because within the first 10 posts in this thread there was someone suggesting that I had not tried hard enough without resorting to drugs. My husband is very much of that mindset and I CBA explaining to him any more than I can to that poster. So easier just to keep quiet about it.
