Mounjaro - can't eat!

pinacollateral · 15/07/2024 07:45

I'm on my second week of mounjaro 5mg.

I went out for a meal on Saturday night at a fancy restaurant and probably overate out of politeness. I left feeling very full/ uncomfortable and was a bit unwell in the night.

Yesterday (Sunday) I still felt off, and barely ate anything at all. Probably had 400 calories through the day.

This morning I've woken up with still zero appetite. I got myself an apple from the fruit bowl but it's sitting on the coffee table, I can't face it.

I'm getting worried that I am eating too little but I am really struggling to force myself to eat.

Anyone else had this experience?

@ACEwards electrolytes ARE salty and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise! 😂 I use unflavoured powder diluted in a small glass of water and they taste like soluble aspirin to me! I've found that they are less salty if I leave them for a little while to dissolve more but I do still have to force myself to drink them😬

Hello everyone 🙂Im into my 6th week of taking MJ. I started on 2.5 for the first 4 weeks with no ill effects. A manageable appetite decrease and by week 5 and in the 1st 5mg dose I’ve lost 5 kilos! However, awful diarrhoea and gas began on Wednesday night and has just today, thankfully, subsided. Haven’t felt like eating at all for a week and feel full and bloated so I’m now reaching for the deflatine. Has else suffered with this into the first week of taking 5mg? Great advice here to take protein shakes, electrolytes and a multivitamin. I’ll be straight onto that. Water intake is ok and trying to maintain good hydration. Took my 2nd 5mg dose today so will see how things go in the coming days. Keen to know if I’m not alone when upping the dose and has anyone remained on 5mg for longer than 4 weeks? 😊

Anyone else struggling to eat enough protein?? I don't fancy any of it and feel my body is just craving carbs for energy as not eating enough food.

I've got protein powder, but frankly I'm sick of it lol. I'm whey intolerant so can only have the vegan ones... as you can imagine they taste like soil 😂

I know it's best to focus on lean meats, but the thought of it makes me feel yuk... took me half and hr to try and chew through half a chicken breast the other night before giving up

Also, I'm sure food just doesn't taste the same??

Can you do something more exciting with the meat? I find plain chicken breast soul destroying. I like chicken thighs with some kind of seasoning mix roasted or in the air fryer. Great with those merchant gourmet sachets

Definitely go for little and often and also drinking calories. I agree with the suggestion of a protein shake (I always add a frozen banana for extra cals) and just sip it. Cut up the apple into nice little chunks and nibble on those.

drinking calouries?? does this mean like fresh orange juice etc??

I’ve been on 5mg for two weeks and I really can’t eat. Forced myself to have a breakfast bar this morning and already feel like I’m going to vomit. It is getting dangerous though as I can feel my body getting weaker. My eyesight keeps going blurry and I had the worst migraine and vomiting yesterday and thought I was going to pass out. I know I need to eat but I can’t face anything, I physically can’t take even small meals. I’m stopping this week as I am too frightened to continue. Read about people being admitted to hospital as their bodies had gone into starvation mode. Please be careful

wow, i hope you are ok!! i have read so many 'good' stories but don't really hear of the reality of MJ having the bad side effects
too

I am the same, I'm lucky if I'm getting 1000 calories. Worried if I stop suddenly that ill pile it back on. I mean it's fabulous for initial weight loss but it's how we maintain a healthy weight.

ACEwards · 15/10/2024 12:14

I think the trick is to gradually increase your calorie intake very slowly... so around 50 cals extra every 3-4 weeks, gradually building up your body's tolerance to more food x

I have to say I'm new. Day 6 of week 1. Mounjaro, duabetes type 2 Yesterday I went on a croissant baking course with a friend. Felt ill after 1 bite! Went to bed knackered and today I've felt off and needed sleep in the afternoon. I made myself egg and veg cupcakes with natural yoghurt in so at least I'm getting protein. I managed a tablespoon of frsh salmon...later lots of fruit teas. A learning process....hubby and son helping remind me yo eat well. God love them x

I eat about 400-600 calories a day. I am very hungry when I first wake up. Eat same thing every morning, sausage cheese croissant. Then I will realize 16 hours later I did not eat. I am just never hungry, don't think about it at all. I have no nausea and the only issue I have to deal with is diarrhea from the drug. I don't eat veggies, fruit or anything else really. Sometimes I eat chicken strips but lately the batter they put on them is blowing my blood sugar up too high. So removing that I just don't eat. Asked my doctor if I should take vitamins and he just said, "No, you are ok." I was Ozempic, lost 34 pounds in 7 months and stopped, haven't lost a single pound in over a year now. It is what it is and I have given up on weight loss. At least my A1C is good now.

Your only eating 400 - 600 calories a day and haven’t lost anything in a year. 🤔

SilenceInside · 03/04/2025 21:24

I think in your situation with such an extremely limited diet @GaveupI’d take a multivitamin regardless of what your doctor says. The diarrhoea may well be because of the high fat high carb salty meal that you eat for breakfast.

RememberDecember · 03/04/2025 21:54

I have been feeling like this on 5mg second week, going to have to go back down again to 2.5mg next week.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 03/04/2025 22:04

I have more suppression on 5mg but still want to eat, and am satisfied with small meals.

SparklyTealBear · 31/05/2025 18:35

Hi @SparklyTealBear if you look in the topics under Big/Slim/Whatever..... there is a board called Weight loss injections/treatments where you will find all the threads related to this topic.

There is usually a monthly thread for new starters going through the same things to chat together which might be worth joining. There are also threads for >5st to lose and >10st to lose for those on longer journeys.

Don't post any codes on the board as they will be deleted.

Hope you manage to find it!

SparklyTealBear · 31/05/2025 20:35

@WeAllHaveWings
thank you very much 😊

AmythestBangle · 31/05/2025 20:51

If you are eating very small amounts (I do some days) then it's important that what you do eat is high quality, esp protein. I am lucky in that I love protein shakes and bars, so some days I live on those and I am happy. I really don't fancy meat much any more.

N17GIRL · 02/06/2025 04:02

Been on Mounjaro for 8 weeks , so now starting on 7.5mgs
i have lost 7 kilos , its a strange feeling , my craving for chunks of cheese have gone
Its made my brain forget all those naughty foods . If I suddenly get a desire eat some chips etc, my craving doesn’t last as I easily forget the craving , especially if I’m suddenly distracted by TV, People, reading
it’s the most weird feeling and it’s amazing

jellyfishperiwinkle · 02/06/2025 04:46

Do you exercise? I find I'm still pretty hungry after a trip to the gym and I could still eat plenty and I'm on 10mg. I have more like 1800 calories a day at the weekend. I can definitely eat and enjoy plenty of food and I still need to make good choices.
