Messed up injection so upset

I took my second dose today of Mounjaro and was so excited as the effects had really started to wear off. I was rushing to do it before the kids came downstairs and I obviously didn’t tighten the needle enough. Because the pinned post said you didn’t need to prime each time I didn’t so I put it in and pressed but it shortly got jammed and wouldn’t move further. I took it out and tried tightening the needle and loads shot out which had obvs built up and got stuck.

so I lost loads of it just into the air. 😭😭
I am also a bit paranoid that maybe I was injecting air into me?

im so upset as I really cant afford this and I just wasted at least 1/3 of a dose. I have made a lot of sacrifices to make this possible and I’m just gutted.

nothing other than a moan as my husband doesn’t know so can’t cry to him!!

Remember that you have a bonus dose so you can look on it that you’ve not wasted any.

This happened to me so I used a new needle and it worked perfectly.

I've learnt to wait until I don’t have any distractions so I can focus better.

Bonus dose?

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/07/2024 07:30

I feel your pain. On one jab I felt it trickling down my tummy and was gutted.

I too often rush it when I am on my own. Could you go to bathroom and lock the door?

Snozzlemaid · 04/07/2024 08:03

Don't panic, the pen has extra in so you can try again and still get your four doses out of it.

30not13 · 04/07/2024 08:43

Exactly what happened to me in my first go, so empathy here from me!
I was so so so angry with myself.
Is a lot of £££ to waste. But yes! There is the bonus dose!
I came in here and read it mightve been due to a bent needle, not user error.

I waited 5 days on the off-chance that some did go in and then jabbed and my next one was fine.

Big hugs for you

It doesn't matter if you inject air, the needles aren't long enough to go pass the skin/fat. It's the same with a insulin pen, it's only needles that go into the vein etc that there's a issue with injecting air.

Try again, there'll be more in the injection.

I suggest telling your husband - what happens if you have an accident / medical emergency and doctors need to know if you are on any medications?

Messagemeback · 04/07/2024 14:57

Thanks everyone - it’s a good lesson to learn!
do you know if a half dose would have half the effect or wear off twice as fast? I don’t know whether to maybe inject some more now, or maybe just the next one a day or 2 early?
or maybe just leave it and learn my lesson! It’s only 2.5 so very small still.

You’re right I know. I will definitely do soon, I just wanted to try it for a week or 2 to see if it suited me. I’m more worried he’ll be concerned about health impacts and freak out so wanted to get my head around side effects.

This happened on week 1 (over primed) and week 6 (bent needle and it leaked out). I was going mad as I saw needle bent but was impatient even though I bought 100 new needles from a medical supplier to go up on supplying of dose in pen but keep the same dose . I feel it's a user error that we can learn from but hard not to be angry with yourself but gets you know where only be kind (emotional eating from my history)

Roundbale · 22/04/2025 11:02

I haven't told my husband of 25 years as he would think it's a waste of money and I could do it myself with lifestyle and it's medication that could be dangerous and that I'm perfect the way I was. He keeps telling me I look fab but don't get too skinny ( I've gone from BMI of 27 to 22)

WeAllHaveWings · 22/04/2025 12:11

Is it a MN pinned post that is saying not to prime? Would be a good idea to feed back to them to change it. It is important to prime every time as priming checks the needle is working.

Are you aware there is spare liquid in the pen? You should hopefully still have enough liquid for all your 4 doses (potentially still 5), but you might need a syringe to extract the last of the liquid if the pen locks.

It would make sense to tell your dh. You need space to inject carefully each week without worrying about the kids. Side effects can start at any time not just in the first week. I was apprehensive telling mine too, he was very concerned at first, but when I explained clearly the now known causes of obesity, how the medication worked and how I was feeling about my weight and the impact it was having on my health he knew I'd done my homework on them and he understood (or from his glazed over expression wanted me to shut up about the irrefutable facts 🤣).

macandcheeseforthewine · 22/04/2025 12:46

I was going to ask where this pinned post is as well? You definitely need to prime every time. After all, it's a new needle every time, so you need to make sure it's on properly, not blocked etc, which is what priming does.
