Mood changes on Mounjaro

Has anyone else experienced increased feelings of anxiety and a generally lower mood since being on MJ?

I’m 15 weeks in and have definitely felt more subdued and irritable. I’ve found it harder to keep a level head about things, whilst also finding it quite difficult to actually cry things out when I need to.

I hadn’t really put any of this down to MJ as I’ve got a couple of stressful things going on at the moment, but I’m beginning to think there probably is a link here.

Has anyone else felt similar?

I was just coming to post the same but I’m only a few days in! I’m middle of my cycle so should be quite level headed but have felt so depressed and teary today and so snappy at the kids. I hope this is temporary as I am not a nice person!

I haven’t tried Mounjaro, but Saxenda gave me paralysing anxiety.

Ive never known anything like it. Tried 3 times and same every time.

I’m sorry you’re feeling similarly! I do think mine gets somewhat worse in the week before my period arrives (I’ve been really crap to DPSad this past week) but it's felt fairly constant, really.

I’m 15 weeks in and have lost 30lbs so I’m loathe to come off it because it’s so effective. Argh!

That sounds tough, and definitely seems that the Saxenda was the cause if it came back through subsequent attempts. Did you move to a different medication or just come off entirely?

Only a week in but I'm finding the total opposite. I feel calmer, less noise in my head, more confident.

This is great. I think I need to focus more on what I’m eating to ensure it’s fueling me properly as I feel very tired which always makes me cranky

I find it really interesting how different people are experiencing different side effects.
I was an anxious wreck with moods up and down and all over the place. Then I started MJ and it felt like I'd taken diazepam! My anxiety went away. My whirring helicopter thoughts stopped. My mood stabilised. I felt suddenly calm. Laid back. Chilled out. And I've remained feeling like that ever since, and I'm 5 weeks on MJ so far.
I have wondered whether it has stabilised my blood sugar maybe? I'm not diabetic, but I'm pretty sure my blood sugar used to swing around. So maybe if MJ has stabilised it then that's why I feel better? Just a guess. I don't actually know. I'd love to know why it's calmed me down so much!
But I'm sorry you're feeling low in mood - are you eating enough calories and are you eating regularly? It's really important. If you're going for long periods of time not eating because of no appetite, then this could be affecting your mood.
Maybe try to ensure you eat regularly through the day, every day, and eat super healthy nutritious food. Plenty of fluids too.
I see lots of posts about people getting headaches and feetired on MJ, and i always wonder if it's because they're not eating regularly because their appetite has been switched off by MJ.
I hope you feel better soon.xx

I came off it.

Switched to Wegovy but didn’t find it very helpful. Felt stoned all the time on it though.

Interestingly I have had both sets of these symptoms. I had a horrible 36hours of anxiety. Could not sit still, had to leave the house and walk around and around a local cemetery.

It seems that after that things settled and I'm now on dose ten and my anxiety levels are lower then normal. I'm sleeping better etc.

Messagemeback · 01/07/2024 22:48

These give me hope as I’ve REALLY struggled with sleep since taking the first dose. Sleep is usually easy for me so it’s so notable and see to blame for why I feel so down. It’s been 5 days since first jab so hopefully starting to settle

I feel the same, just did a search to find out why, but I have ADHD.

I’m feeling terrible anxiety and nausea last 3 days will not be taking fourth injection on Friday never again.

Femme2804 · 17/11/2024 23:40

Hi how is everyone doing? Is the mood swings and depression subdued?. I’m on 7weeks of MJ and depression and mood swings kicks in since my 4th weeks. I really unhappy and very irritable. I dont want to atop MJ because its help me massively. But ia the depression will get better?

i am a happy person with happy life. Always optimistic and worry free. Its really doesn’t feel like myself this couple of weeks.

Keykkkk · 15/03/2025 20:28

I’ve had the same experience , terrible anxiety on my 6th week of mounjaro , and low mood that crept up gradually. I’ve had medical advice and there is a link between mounjaro and anxiety / depression. As a result I have had to stop using it .

NippyNinjaCrab · 15/03/2025 20:33

Yes I've struggled with low mood on MJ, not on the lower doses. I can't go up higher than 4mg or my mood plummets.

I've attached something my provider sent out not that long ago.

I also have ADHD , and bipolar illness ( the start of my obesity was putting on 6 stone in 6 months on lithium. I also have type 2 diabetes ( which has been impacted/ caused by the psychiatric medications I have taken over the years. Mounjaro is really agreeing with me , I’m 6 weeks in and feel calm, happy and productive. I also have no interest at all in alcohol which is fab as I was an ex drinker who was sober through willpower. No desire to drink now, I’m really happy with the effects , and the 2.5/mg is working for me, but I have 6 stone to lose!
