It's in the fridge. It's been there for over a month.
I'm too scared to start 😭

I'm scared of the side effects to be specific .

Geppili · 24/06/2024 01:18

I'm too scared to even try to buy it! So well done!

Geppili · 24/06/2024 01:20

Maybe you need a buddy. Someone close to you who you can share your fears with?

Caitlynandthecat · 24/06/2024 01:31

I went with "just buy it and you can think about it later". But it's just sat in the fridge 🫣

One of my friends tried it a while back and so has told me to go for it.

Why are you scared? Most people don't get side effects and of those that do most are mild. The side effects are negligible compared to the positive benefits.

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/06/2024 01:44

And in the month it's been there, how have you done with food?

WeAllHaveWings · 24/06/2024 02:59

I did my first injection on Saturday and I was a bit concerned about taking it and delayed it several days.

I eventually rationalised in my head if it was a pill I wouldn’t be this nervous and taking medication as a pill is no less or more risky than an injection.

Then I had to get past injecting myself with a fear of needles, that was fun 🫣

That's probably your answer then.

Because even with motivation to avoid possible side effects, you still didn't manage well. Which may mean you need it more than you don't.

I'm doing keto (well LCHF) and have lost most of the weight now. Similar to these drugs it controls what you feel like eating. It is freeing. It also has effects on you. It's all balance.

Where's your head at today?

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 25/06/2024 10:19

Oh I totally hear you @Caitlynandthecat ! It took a lot of wine for me to do my first jab and I was so so scared of what would happen (I completely cocked up my first attempt and had to redo it!).
Think about why you bought it in the first place. Are you so unhappy with how you look and feel that you wanted to change? Or are you worried about the health issues your weight might be causing?
I have to report that I have had minimal side-effects (dry mouth/nasty taste, thirst and feeling a bit ‘blocked up’ resulting in some wind😂) and actually thought I was a non-responder for a few days but then noticed I hadn’t had a Diet Coke for a couple of days and wasn’t prowling the kitchen looking for wine in the evening so I reckon it really IS working.
Whether you take it or not is down to how badly you want/need help to make the changes. There are loads of us here to talk to if you are worried

mandarindreams · 25/06/2024 12:43

I was also very nervous about starting but I did my first dose last week and had basically zero side effects (tiny bit constipated on Day 2 and a very noisy rumbling stomach on Day 3). I've been able to stick to my calorie limit easily and all of the hunger and urges to snack were gone and only really started to return on Day 6. I've already lost some weight and I've never felt more positive about my ability to make a real change.

My only regret is that I didn't start sooner. Hop on to one of the newbies threads and you'll find plenty of friendly support. And in the unlikely event that you're one of the people who has horrible side effects, then you can always stop after one dose.

Zombella · 25/06/2024 13:44

I've been taking mounjaro since April and the only side effect has been with my menstrual cycle (occasional light bleeding even though I'm on the progesterone pill). I've had no constipation or upset stomach. I'm now on 7.5mg. Since April I have lost one and half stone through mild appetite suppression, healthy eating and not bingeing. However, I started at 20.8 stone so a lot of that was water! Bear in mind that you start on the titration dose to get your body used to it and then build up to the therapeutic dose. It's the best thing I've ever done. For the first time in my life the desire to binge has gone. It's like the desire has switched off in my brain. But everyone is unique and you won't know if you'll have any side effects until you try it. Good luck - I hope it works well for you! I don't post much on the mounjaro threads but they're a lovely bunch of people on there.

Thanks for these replies.
I really am desperate for change.
I'm a short woman and my calorie deficit has to go really quite low to lose weight and I'm 4 stone overweight so I just lose and gain the same pounds over and over as I lose motivation

OP posts:
IReallyNeedThisToWork · 25/06/2024 14:23

@Caitlynandthecat I'm 5'2'' SO I totally get the height thing! I (re)started the Fast800 a few weeks ago and managed to lose 10lbs and then just stalled, losing a pound and then regaining it repeatedly. I decided I could either carry on like that, feeling like a complete failure, or I could try smething else. My GP also recently lectured me about high blood pressure and I am scared of what that could lead to so I knew I had to change.
A friend has recently had a gastric sleeve and I KNEW that was not for me as it is seems so drastic but this seems a halfway point (at least in my head!) and I could stop taking it if it didn't suit me.
I am 6 days in and, despite the minor side effects I mentioned before, I feel fabulous! I seem to have more energy and can no longer sit around doing very little as I just want to be moving - it's the most bizarre feeling! I'm up before my alarm every morning and in bed way earlier than I used to be. I have also just done a call on my HD camera and I can see that my face has lost all its puffiness.
I am very happy and it's only week one!

Caitlynandthecat · 25/06/2024 14:30

This sounds so great! I think I just need to stop overthinking it and just do it

OP posts:
HoldMyCoffee · 27/06/2024 07:12

Did you do it?

My wegovy pen comes today and I'm nervous about the actual injecting!

WeAllHaveWings · 27/06/2024 18:46

What worked for me was numbing the area with something from the freezer, then not looking when putting the needle in. Once in it wasn’t bad as I couldn’t see the needle and couldn’t feel it either, so could press the pen down and wait 5 secs.

Hands, were shaking and probably will next time too! Think it will take a few weeks to acclimatise to doing it.

HoldMyCoffee · 27/06/2024 20:36

I'm trying to find a video of someone actually doing it, do you literally just pinch a bit of tummy and go for it?!

papadontpreach2me · 27/06/2024 20:41

The side effects can be pretty horrific.

I suggest getting some anti sickness and omeprazole.

curiousfat · 27/06/2024 22:23

I have also had mine in the fridge for ages but realised you don't have to take the full dose to start with. That made me feel a lot less scared. I think it's 30 clicks for the full 2.5 dose so if you just do eg 6 clicks or 10 clicks you're just having a tiny dose, and just build up from it.

Caitlynandthecat · 28/06/2024 00:10

That's in interesting idea! Just a tiny bit to see what happens!

Dose chart someone else shared on another thread.

60 clicks for the 2.5mg dose in the 2.5mg pen. 2.5mg is already the small starter dose.

If you are going to take less remember the pen should only be used for 30 days (although some pushing to 35 days to get the bonus dose), use a new needle every time, and if you take very small doses it will be a lot of wastage and cost.

curiousfat · 28/06/2024 06:54

@WeAllHaveWings that's a really helpful table thanks! And good to know it's 60 not 30. My first (and only!) dose so far really was tiny in that case! I'm aware of the 30 day limit and think it'll be ok to push it by a few days but to be honest I've seen this first pen as an investment in getting myself comfortable with the idea of it all so there will be a lot of wastage. I appreciate that it's not possible for everyone but it's made a huge difference to how I feel about trying it.
