Is this another injectable weight loss drug people want from nhs and are shouting discrimination if they don't get it?

OhHelloMiss · 22/06/2024 23:17

NHS don't provide it

You have to pay for a private prescription

I'm getting Ozempic on NHS. I'm West Midlands. I had a BMI of 50, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bad asthma and then pre diabetic. I've lost 4 stone.

They aren't shouting discrimination. They want access to a very effective medication which is hypothetically available on the NHS and trying to establish whether anyone has actually been prescribed it.

At the moment I don't think Drs are prescribing it for weight loss.

Some diabetics can get it, but not yet for weight loss.

Maybe its something that will come in the future, but not sure when that will be.

I didn't even get to that stage - I called the doctor to discuss weight loss options (BMI of over 40 but they didn't even ask for current measurements) and they told me I could join a walking group or I could have a slimming world referral - but there would be a minimum two year weight for referral to tier three for weight loss medication of any sort.
