Mounjaro arriving tomorrow- top tips?

so I finally bit the bullet and ordered it, stepped on the scales and I’m now 20 stone so got about half my body weight to lose. Any tips for using the mounjaro? Where do I inject it, is it easy to do? What are the side effects like? Will I just not feel hungry? I’m always so grumpy when I’m on a diet, I’ve heard this stops the hungry feeling so I’m hoping the grumpiness won’t start. Anything I need to think about before starting?

Hi all, I was on Wegovy for the past three months, I lost but it was so slow. Moved over to Mounjaro this past Sunday and remarkably impressed. My appetite is almost zero. I've lost significantly more weight and overall very pleased I've made the change. I've lost 18lb since end of Feb on Wegovy, 5 of that being just this week on Mounjaro. Good luck to all you ladies on it. Hope you all get the results you want. 😀

Hi, I started Mounjaro 2 weeks ago, had my 2nd 2.5mg (0.5ml) yesterday, haven’t noticed a change as of yet! I just want to double check with others taking it if I’m taking it correctly?
I have 1 Mounjaro pen, with 4 doses, take it once a week for 4 weeks, that’s correct right?
Just confusing me how it’s 2.5mg starting dose but only injecting 0.5ml?
Hope you can help/confirm, thank you!

RunningAndSinging · 16/06/2024 17:27

Sounds right (nearly anyway). It is 2.5mg of the drug contained in 0.6ml of liquid. If you are turning the dial until you see the 1 and then pressing the end of the pen until it winds back to 0 you will be getting the whole dose. 2.5mg is a low dose and lots of us haven’t had much effect until 5 or even 7.5 mg.

CarlieH · 16/06/2024 22:03

Thank you for replying to me! Yes that is what I’m doing, hopefully I’ll see a change soon!

Whilst I lost a couple of lbs on 2.5mg, I only really started to lose whilst latterly on 5mg and now on 7.5mg

Keep going and you'll get there!

Hiya everyone. I’ve been approved (PCOS & high androgens with under active thyroid) rapid weight gain over a year that I’ve done EVVVVVERY thing to combat and excercise/PT for calories and macros but to budge just 1b I’d need to only eat ONE MEAL a day high protein! Sad. My question is a bit blonde?! I’ve ordered Mounjaro 2.5 for start and curious, does it come with 4 needles for the 4 doses please? X

jostol · 23/06/2024 15:57

OP best to post on the weight loss injections forum as many people have a bee in their bonnet about these injections and will be quite negative about it. Lots of great support on the injections forum though!

KirstenNova · 23/06/2024 19:38

@jostol no way, why are people being negative about it? Is there a specific formula you recommend please? just want to make sure I get it all right, been a long road to get here and hoping it means I can get off of drugs like 100mg Spironolactone & Metformin!😳 I had to provide all of my medical history, diagnosis’s & evidence from Bluetooth scales, Apple Watch, blood tests, blood sugar tests? Repeat Hormone blood levels, everything right down to ultrasound scans. Everything going on with me is exacerbated with being heavier & putting me at further risk. Makes me sad can’t ask wee questions on here now. It’s not the weight loss so much for me - it’s getting my blood sugar and hormone levels regulated which is why it’s Mounjaro specifically and not anything else 🙈 thank you for the heads up though; been a long time since I turned to mumsnet but sad to hear it’s gone that way. It used to be supportive x

jostol · 23/06/2024 20:48

@KirstenNova It is just on this forum that its not the best place, there is a specific weight loss injection forum here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections

I think it is just that prior to the new injection forum it was swamping the weight loss board and people not using the medications were getting a bit fed up with how much the injections were dominating the discussions so now there are two different boards.

I can understand why someone not using the meds might want to avoid hearing about them all the time and as for the negativity I think some people believe they are a bad idea. They might think that people using them are looking for a quick fix, or a lazy way to lose weight without putting the work in. Some may have genuine concerns about side effects or long term consequence. Many will not have done a lot of research and will assume that people on these medications will just inevitably regain all the weight once they stop using them. Some will be concerned that those using them are losing weight in an unhealthy way and there does seem to be some evidence of that online i.e. people using the injections to eat literally as little as possible to lose large amounts of weight very fast in a way that is not healthy or sustainable.

Taking these medications is such a personal decision and sounds like you have covered a lot of bases to make use it is right for you. It wasn't an easy choice for me as I had the chance to start on another brand about 2 years ago and I didn't due to wanting to learn more and to keep trying to lose weight "naturally" which never happened. In the end I decided that it did seem like a good option for me and I have been using it now for 4 weeks and have lost 12lbs which is crazy to me especially as I opted to not cut calories too severely and am still eating about 1800 calories a day with a lot more activity thrown in. It will slow down and that is fine, this is a marathon not a sprint and I am working hard to change my habits around food and activity. The medication is making it easier for me to not overeat but all the hard work of exercise and eating right is still on me.

@jostol Wow that is an impressive journey as well, well done. So pleased to see it works on a realistic deficit as I’ve been in a 1400 deficit for 8 months and gym, proper eating via trainer and doc- I can’t lose 1lb unless extremities of ONE meal of chicken and rice a day. That is awful and so unhealthy- I want to be able to eat, be sensible, lower my hormones and insulin (I’ve got insulin resistant PCOS) Thanks so much - have joined the community forum now. I’ve left this as a last resort myself too. I don’t want to be taking drugs like spironolactone which is actually for heart failure (so, that’s concerning, I am not in heart failure!) but GP said was needed to try get my levels under control. Concerned about the long term effects of a drug like that which we already know of.
Only basic questions I had were do the 4 needles come with the Mounjaro KwikPen for example. But I just ordered spare from Amazon now incase. Not sure when it will arrive it all went through on Friday- so I presume will arrive early this week. Do you have the kwickpen yourself? Was that your first 4 weeks at 2.5?! Hope the transition to next stage is easy & you continue to enjoy your journey. It isn’t an easy decision mentally. Having had a nose at the link you sent- that’s the environment I need. Grateful for the heads up.

jostol · 23/06/2024 21:18

@KirstenNova My provider sent the kwikpen with 5 singe use needles and I also bought another box of spares. The should also include some alcohol wipes but they are inexpensive at the chemists if you need to buy more yourself. I would think most providers will send you all the needles you need. My first 4 weeks at 2.5 was great really no real side effects but everyone is different. As many others say it does reduce food noise and the urge to overeat a lot which is really helpful in sticking to your meal plan. Good luck with it!

has anyone had a reaction to mounjaro - skin swelling up and going red at the injection site? Does this calm down after any time soon? I have been on 4 weeks now and everytime I inject my thigh swells and gets hot and itchy around the injection site.

Has anyone experienced clear light green wee whilst taking it?

TheZippyCrab · 02/07/2025 20:14

So I'm 4 weeks into my mounjaro journey.. 11lb down so far and i feel FABULOUS!!..... ive had absolutely no side effects not even as much as a headache... I up my dose this coming weekend and I'm so excited i finally feel like I'm doing something for me after spending the last 16 years raising my 3 children whilst my husband got himself his degrees at uni!.... however... I feel so alone on my journey because I cant talk to anyone about it. Obviously my husband knows I'm on it but my friends... Best friends are totally against it. Without sounding degrading... they aren't educated on it and make out its cheating/dangerous/pointless etc but believe me when I say I've researched everything there is to know about it!.... we used to have a bigger group of friends but 1 had weightloss surgery went fro a size 24 to a size 12 and she looks bloodu incredible! But all of a sudden our mutual friend who Introduced her to the group whose a very large lady turned totally against her staeted slagging her off saying shes a cheat etc and the women left the group... havnt spoken to them since.... our 5 is now down to 3... we're all larger ladies I'm the smallest frame (soze 18) but probably the heaviest in weight (20 stone) out of us all. We're all dieting but it feels like the "main ring leader" is in competition with us all! Qe all weigh seperstly at home and shell never tell us what shes lost first.. so if i say i lost 4lb shes like i lost 2... slowndown 4lb in a week is too much!...yet if i loose 3 shell loose 4 and thats fine.. I feel she's very bitter when others do well around her... yet there's nothing stopping her achieving things either. I on the other hand believe in lifting eachother up congratulating them when they loose 1lbor whatever and encouraging eachother along.... I love her dearly but I don't like her opinions and how they make me feel about MJ. I'm having to lie about how much I've lost in a week because she says I'll be ill if I loose too much too soon... I'll look drawn and being too skinny wont suit me lol don't get me wrong... im a grown ass women I'm doing it for myself and my kids because I want to live a healthy happier life but her opinions grind my gears, but I wish I could just talk about my journey openly and people be proud of me for taking the jump and sorting myself out! Has or is anyone else been in this situation?? Xx

PS I have £40 off medexpress for anyone who'd like it x
