Attending a wedding in the summer for friends. We met through our kids. We’re all invited ( 2 adults + 2 kids). Venue is about 2 hours from us. Wedding on a Monday so day off work. We won’t be staying over as hotels were £400+.

How much cash for a wedding gift is the going rate these days? Don’t want to come across cheap!

WeatherChanged · 23/03/2026 08:08

What type of wedding is it? Are the having a sit down meal?
id say at least £200 if four of you have been invited.

My thoughts too

Fupoffyagrasshole · 23/03/2026 08:10

I always give 200£

although you sound like you don’t really want to go

too far away / Monday etc

so just don’t go then if it’s such a hassle 😂

Pinkmoonshine · 23/03/2026 08:12

I’d say £100.
it’s not paying for the event, it’s a gift.

Itsafactitsactual · 23/03/2026 08:26

£100

Lomonald · 23/03/2026 08:29

£100 I would say is fine, I don't think you need to give anymore than that, I know you have listed all your effort and outgoings but that isn't really comparable to gift giving imo.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 23/03/2026 08:53

£200 minimum

ChangeAgainAgainAgain · 23/03/2026 09:10

I'd probably give £250.

Justmadesourkraut · 23/03/2026 09:30

Id give £100 plus a couple of half bottles of champagne for the couple to enjoy to continue their celebrations. We really appreciated this - would normally open fizz for just 2 of us, and certainly wouldn't splash out on champagne for home, but enjoyed extending our wedding celebrations this way . . .

reabies · 23/03/2026 11:01

£80-100. Just because your kids are invited doesn't mean you need to give more unless your kids are adults and contributing too. If I really like the couple I'll get a bottle of bubbly too.

Megifer · 23/03/2026 11:06

£50 if I couldnt find a nice gift i think theyd like for similar amount.

user2848502016 · 23/03/2026 21:14

£100

DappledThings · 23/03/2026 21:22

£100 is plenty. Someone will be along in a moment to tell you you need to "cover your plate" and spend loads more. That's bollocks. It's not a transaction and working out how much they have spent on you is just crass.

LynetteScavo · 23/03/2026 22:35

£200? I would turn down the invitation if thought that was the going rate. I’d say £100 max. I obviously tight.

PatriciaRocks · 23/03/2026 22:38

£50-100

Exactly.

We got married in 2021 and the majority of our couple guests that we met via kids, school mums etc who are close friends each gave between £50 and £150. Give what you can comfortably afford you won’t be judged they’ll just be glad to have you there.

WednesdaysChild73 · 23/03/2026 22:43

£100
