Is it silly to wear trainers

So I am getting married soon and I hate hate hate wearing heals because they are so uncomfortable and sore to walk in but I think they are really pretty and are more elegant..

Is it silly to wear trainers under my dress as no one will see my shoes anyway or should I have high heels and trainers with me for later??

It’s fine. I wore heels for the ceremony and I wish I hadn’t because it was an outdoor ceremony’s and I hadn’t accounted for them sinking into the grass and me getting stuck when about to walk down the aisle! I had pretty white ballet flats to change into and ended up only wearing my heels for about an hour. Remember to take the length of your dress into account though!

sleepyscientist · 11/04/2024 08:53

Nope I wish I had, we are considering a vow renewal and I would wear heels to ceremony (as I'm short) then swap them for platform converse so my dress isn't to long

GlobetrottingPercy · 11/04/2024 08:56

I wore trainers for the ceremony and evening (suede converse). You couldn’t see them under my dress and for the odd times you could, I didn’t care. I knew I would be on my feet all day and wanted the comfort so that I could enjoy myself.

edit - I knew I would be wearing them so took them to my dress fittings

Also useful should you have a change of heart at the last minute - for a fast getaway! 😂

I'm wearing heels in church (mostly because dp is 6 inches taller than me) but bought myself new doc martens for the reception

Uncooperativefingers · 11/04/2024 09:44

Absolutely fine if that's what you prefer.

But they do change your posture (or rather, heels change your posture!) and so you can always tell even if you can't see the shoe.

I much prefered my posture in my dress when in heels and I wanted the extra height, so I concentrated on finding the most comfortable heels I could. Took flats to change into on the day, but actually didn't need to. And other than my wedding, I haven't worn any heels for about 5 years I don't think

I wore blue medium heels for the ceremony as you could see them under the dress and then changed to fluffy Ugg gold
Flip flops afterwards, got loads of dancing done!

JRM17 · 11/04/2024 10:02

As a former wedding planner i would advise you to wear what ever you are more comfortable in. I've had brides in all sorts of shoes from massive platform stilettos to White wellies. If u can stand a nice kitten heel for the ceremony /photos and then change after that then go for it but if not just wear the trainers.

Jiski · 11/04/2024 10:09

These are my wedding pumps. They’re very dusty now though. I wore them at the reception and flat white bejewelled sandals for the ceremony.

There’s loads of really cool wedding trainers out there! Have a look.

and definitely not silly if they can’t be seen under the dress

PampasGrass · 11/04/2024 10:12

I wore trainers. No one could see them anyway. Don’t get heels for the service and then switch as you dress will be measured wrong and you’ll get annoyed about having to lift it the whole time.

Russiandollsaresofullofthemselves · 11/04/2024 10:18

It’s not silly. I did wear heels to walk down the aisle (mainly because my dress was too long and I didn’t want to pay to alter it) but straight after the ceremony I swapped to converse high tops. My sister wore dr martens to get married as did I as her bridesmaid and my daughters who were bridesmaids/flower girls all wore vans trainers. You do you and wear whatever will make you happy and comfortable.

TheShoeLady · 11/04/2024 10:23

I work as an artist painting shoes and jackets for weddings etc. Many brides have two pairs made - some heels and some trainers - but plenty also just have the trainers and send me wedding pics of them wearing them during the whole ceremony. I think they look gorgeous (of course!) but more importantly it allows them to enjoy the whole day rather than being uncomfortable for the sake of looks. Your dress can be altered to fit to the floor with flat shoes if you’d rather they don’t show, or you can go a little shorter if it’s a more casual style and wear it with a denim or leather jacket for a relaxed vibe.

If you go with heels for the ceremony then I’d definitely recommend Rainbow Club shoes as they’re really soft and comfy and can be dyed to match any colour scheme as part of their service (or custom painted by me!)

Hope you have a fabulous day whatever the footwear.

mondaytosunday · 11/04/2024 10:43

Of course wear what you want, but there are plenty other of nice shoes that aren't trainers! I wore flats to mine, plain satin from Karen Miller with a little bow detail. My sister (MOH) also wore velvet flats to match her dress. Pretty and comfortable!

I wore trainers to my wedding 14 years ago. My rationale was no one will see or care. I chose silver ones and replaced the laces with ribbons that matched the ties in the bridesmaids flowers and the grooms tie and button hole. It’s a long day, honestly do what suits you.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/04/2024 10:55

When my niece married her wife they both wore heels for the ceremony then one changed into white converse and the other into white DMs. They actually looked better in the flats because neither could walk in heels and they looked more 'them' in flats.

Jasmin1971 · 11/04/2024 10:58

I would have worn custom converse if they had done them at the time. My husband wore his combat boots 🤣

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 11/04/2024 10:59

Gawd, if I had my time again I would I wore a white suit with a pink blouse and pink heels...I cursed myself and never wore the heels again. It was a register office wedding and I hated dresses so...but if I get married again either some sparkly trainers or white Docs would be my choice.

ALJT · 11/04/2024 11:01

I wore converse. I’m 5’11 and so is my husband so I didn’t wanna tower over him and also was comfortable

Firefly993 · 11/04/2024 12:33

I wore a really low kitten heel for the ceremony, trainers do change your posture! But once that was all done I wore white adidas for the rest.

JaneFarrier · 11/04/2024 12:35

I wore the most beautiful beaded flats and have no regrets! We had a ceilidh band and I changed into white (non-pointe!) ballet shoes for that and my only regret is they had no padding and my feet were sore the next day (it was a LOT of dancing) so trainers might have been a better bet. My daughter says if she ever gets married she will wear embellished high-tops which is very her, and I say she definitely should!

shearwater2 · 11/04/2024 14:34

20 years ago I had small heels but even they were rather uncomfortable after a while. So I changed into ivory satin ballet pumps at the reception.

jlphil · 11/04/2024 14:46

Absolutely not silly at all!! I wore white doc martens on my wedding day for comfort as don't like heels and my husband is only 1 inch taller than me

Allyliz · 11/04/2024 15:13

Get some white Converse and bling them up....they'll look fab and you'll enjoy your day in comfort x
