Practically, I think that it would require industrial quantities of tape to ensure that it didn't slip down.

However, if it's your wedding day, you are perfectly entitled to have whatever style of dress that is your heart's desire, as you aren't going to get another chance to wear something like that ever again - and anybody that turns their nose up at a dress you love for your special day with the man you love is being incredibly mean.

Quite dated, strapless feels quite 2010s

SageRosemary · 07/04/2024 22:39

A friend of mine got married in 2001 in a dress very similar to that but with a much fuller skirt. A complete meringue. It was not at all what I had imagined she would wear. She looked spectacular! It was a showstopper.

Back then, there was hardly anything available that was not strapless, fine for slender women, a disaster for the well-endowed who would spend a good part of the day hoiking the dress upwards to protect their modesty. So many looked good arriving at the service and for maybe an hour afterwards but then gravity took over.

So if you are as slender as the model pictured then perhaps you can carry off the dress. There's a dress out there to suit you, go try them on.

EDIT And, you'll need to cover up on top if you are having the ceremony in a Church.

I agree about strapless. Look fine when you’re standing still and straight for the official photos but look at the sitting down/unposed/drunken photos from the reception from every single wedding you’ve ever been to, to see how unflattering they are in reality.

theduchessofspork · 07/04/2024 22:43

It’s a bit Lily’s Bordello

They always look slightly as if you’re wrapped in a towel even when sober. Which is on message for a beach wedding I guess

Koptforitagain · 07/04/2024 22:47

I don’t like the ruffles. It would look more classy without them.

Justleaveitblankthen · 07/04/2024 22:49

I'm no prude, but not a fan of Cleavage on a bride dress.
Gorgeous style in red or black velvet for the Opera though (Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman) 😍

essgee91 · 07/04/2024 22:51

I was a bridal stylist for a few years (2019-2023) and this is very dated. Strapless mikado fishtail with pick ups was very popular 2009-2013.

Blarn · 07/04/2024 22:52

Dated. If you like that style there are much nicer ones around.

ConfrontationDoesntHaveToBeScarey · 07/04/2024 22:53

Dated but not dated enought to be retro. But if you feel good wearing it that's all that matters

BirthdayRainbow · 07/04/2024 23:21

I'm thinking of selling my dress. It hasn't dated at all. Does anyone want to buy one? 👰‍♀️

Fifthtimelucky · 07/04/2024 23:29

I do actually like strapless dresses, but they must be dated as I often used to wear them back in the late 80s!

That dress is cut much too low though, and I don't like the ruffles or the shape at the bottom.

MyLovelyPurse · 07/04/2024 23:33

Dated and not classy

Hohofortherobbers · 07/04/2024 23:34

I like the strapless bodice, would prefer a less stiff skirt, more flowing

Smiler62 · 07/04/2024 23:37

Thanks ladies. It was a dress I liked back in 2010, so absolutely it is years old. I'm now opting for the boho, dress, with lace on the arms and the back x

Sorry but I don't particularly like it. It's strapless and looks stiff.

mondaytosunday · 07/04/2024 23:45

Good call - recall seeing this umpteen times on Say Yes to the Dress years ago.

caringcarer · 07/04/2024 23:53

Not for me.

Jakethekid · 08/04/2024 00:14

It somehow reminds me of Victoria Beckham In the early 2000s. Boho sounds lovely though

Alainlechat · 08/04/2024 07:30

Wow surprised at these comments especially the one saying it's vile as it is a similar shape to mine but without the ruffles.

But I did get married in the late 2000s and this type was in fashion then, very popular in fact. (And no problem keeping it in place).

I hadn't realised wedding fashion had moved on so much.

now it’s all about soft romantic boho lace dresses like this one. There seems to be a competition among some designers to see who can have the lowest split to the navel and the highest split in the leg.

no shade here though I had something similar for my dress although it had a proper neckline

Modern Bohemian Floral Lace Wedding Dress Annika

A modern bohemian beauty with floral-inspired details, this soft A-line wedding dress is oh-so-dreamy! Beaded lace adds dimension and texture throughout the bodice, while linear lace trims the plunging V-neckline and waist. The lightweight skirt is per...
