How many guests stayed till the last hour of your evening reception?

I got married a few weeks ago and invited 100 people to my wedding and had a few no shows. I noticed people leaving from 9pm till 11pm. I think we must have had around 50 people at 11pm. Do you remember how many people you had around the last hour of your wedding? Is this a normal amount? I’ve not been to many weddings so unsure.

I had 95% still at the end in the early hours. Big fat wedding. My husband didn't stay until the end of the marriage though 😂

We stayed at a big country hotel in Scotland and bride groom+ wedding party+ lots of guests were still in the bar when we went for breakfast. They were young though

I'm sure I've read this before. Are you the one who was miffed about people not being able to do from early doors to past midnight?

Let it go if you are. It doesn't matter OP.

CaronPoivre · 07/11/2022 18:59

Several older relatives went after the breakfast but most were present for bouquet tossing and our departure about half hour before the band stopped playing. I believe there was more partying after the band went.

Ccsmith91 · 07/11/2022 19:12

No I’m not but yes I have just found it and my situation does sound lightly similar! No one was getting up at 6:30am though haha

Most people stayed till the end of mine but a) we didn't get married til 5pm so no-one had been drinking all day b) we're Scottish and c) most of our pals were in their late 20s with no kids.

Timeandtune · 07/11/2022 19:26

In the olden days ( 1960s) most brides and grooms left early evening to go on honeymoon. A going away outfit was purchased specially. The party continued without them.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 07/11/2022 19:27

Hopefully you get invited to a Scottish wedding some time then @Parky04 😁

Cheeeeislifenow · 07/11/2022 19:30

You're not in Ireland, we get dragged out at 4 am!!!

burnoutbabe · 07/11/2022 19:35

I think I usually mange to 9pm before heading off. Noisy discos are boring, you have caught up with people and rather sone buffet. Perfectly reasonable time to leave (and I felt the sane at 35 as I do at 50)

OnABreeze · 07/11/2022 19:48

I didn't have my wedding in this country and probably about 60% of the guests were still dancing at 1am. I'd say it's mostly English weddings where people leave early for some reason. Probably to do with the early start to the day, abroad they start much later 4-5pm.

OnABreeze · 07/11/2022 19:51

Also the biggest socio-demographic of posters on this site probably aren't the "party animal" types that will be staying until the end. So you'll probably get a very heavy one-side to this post.

NCHammer2022 · 07/11/2022 19:52

Most of them, but we got married in our early 20s and most of our friends were the same age, and no one had any children yet. Most relatives were staying in the same venue so no real need to leave early either. It’s been very different at weddings I’ve been to more recently when people have had to get home for babysitters etc.

custardbear · 07/11/2022 19:54

I had my reception in a remote castle, so they had to stay til the buses we'd laid on came to collect them 🤣

ItisallPooh · 07/11/2022 19:55

Scottish Weddings usually have 90% of people there to the very end past midnight. At our wedding this included my 2 year old nephew and 96 year old gran! We like to get our money's worth out of our wedding attire! 🤣

firesideglow · 07/11/2022 20:14

We invited 100 to ours. Everyone except my parents ( my stepdad was allergic to modern music) and my husbands Aunt & 2 daughters stayed till the end. Several guests went back and had a party at their hotel as well I

Kite22 · 07/11/2022 21:23

I got married decades ago.
As expected, some of our older relatives left quite early in the evening, but that was fine and very much expected, and the numbers were boosted by the friends who came for the evening 'do'. So the room was full at the end of the night.

(but I too am feeling very deja vu about this thread)

Seekandyeshallfind · 07/11/2022 21:30

Welcome to the club @Kite22 but OP denies all knowledge if you read the thread

Kite22 · 07/11/2022 21:34

Yes, I have read, but it seems such an odd thing to be worrying about as a newly wed, it seem strange that 2 people started the same thread within a few weeks.

Lcb123 · 07/11/2022 21:34

Probably about 20 left at the end. But none of it matters - just that we are married and happy!

Ccsmith91 · 07/11/2022 21:56

I’ve read the other thread! We both had people leave early it seems!

OP posts:
burnoutbabe · 07/11/2022 22:02

Bit is it early?

Surely once the ceremony is over and the dinner eaten, the main parts are over?

HouseofGods · 07/11/2022 22:06

We had 120 and I think 90+ were there to the end at 1am. Would say that's been similar for every wedding I've been to.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/11/2022 22:07

No idea. We left at 9.30. Our London friends left on a coach at about 10, by home friends and people who had booked hotels hung about in the garden, it was beautiful night, my parents, grandparents and a few rellies and neigh ours stayed up until gone midnight.
