What did you have as your wedding favours

I am looking for some inspiration for weddings favours and was wondering if people could give me some ideas!
I am getting married in March in a stately home type of venue. We have a pale yellow colour scheme (so quite spring like).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Didn’t have any at my own wedding and don’t think anyone missed them. The nicest ones I ever had were from a wedding was where the bride and groom were both potters and had made candle holders as part of the table decorations. Guests were invited to take them home at the end of the night - still have them and still use them and think about their lovely wedding every time.

CooperLooper · 17/11/2019 20:17

2 cocktail tokens per guest that we'd paid for :) and sweets for kids

Bigearringsbigsmile · 17/11/2019 20:18

Sugared almonds. Got married in 97

MsSquiz · 17/11/2019 20:19

We had chocolate bars (milk & orange or white & raspberry - mine and DH's favourite flavours) for the adults and lollipops for the kids (made by the lady who made our dessert table)

We also had silver Marie Curie pins for the ladies as my DM died 3 months before our wedding at a Marie Curie hospice.

Everyone loved the chocolate & lollies, and most of the female guests still regularly wear their pin badges

thedocisin · 17/11/2019 20:24

we hired a caricaturist in lieu of wedding favours and so guests got their pictures drawn free of charge and took the pictures home as a keepsake

We didn’t have any, they. Weren’t a thing twenty years ago."
Sugared almonds have been a thing for a very long time!

Shookethtothecore · 17/11/2019 20:28

We had bottles of alcohol specific to the country we got engaged in. Those who didn’t want them left them on the table and those who did swept them up and had a cheap night getting drunk on them before hitting the venues bar. I think they should be eaten or drunk at the time as like others have said, anything else I have ever had gets left behind

Ginnotgym · 17/11/2019 20:38

We had our wedding reception at Jimmy's farm (a pig farm Grin) we had souvenir egg cups filled with mini Percy pigs as our favours 🐷

bluerad · 17/11/2019 20:39

We got married on Easter Saturday and gave everyone a Lindt chocolate bunny. Except that we forgot to put them on the table and gave them out during the evening but forgot a few so ate them ourselves on honey moon. Bliss!

Earslaps · 17/11/2019 20:59

Another one with bags of mini eggs. At the time they were my favourite chocolate in the world, so it made sense to have them for a March wedding.

popsadaisy · 17/11/2019 21:01

Wow thank you everyone for the wonderful suggestions!!!
I just love the idea of doing a donation to charity especially for a charity related to a loved one who can't be there on the big day. My late Grandad was blind and had a guide dog who he adored! His guide dog has only recently passed away so maybe I could do a donation in their names to the guide dog society.
Also think the food/drink suggestions are winning! Love the idea of relating it to Easter but Easter is in April next year so will be being a bit early!! Sure it won't matter though!
Liked the idea of a daffodil bulb as well Smile thanks everyone!! Really appreciate it.

We had a sweet station so people could just make up bags of pick n mix (and loads left off for me and DH to enjoy!!)

twinkletoedelephant · 17/11/2019 21:10

We had sugared almonds .. my mum's neighbour insisted on doing them as soon as she found out we were engaged... She seemed to enjoy it all, she made love hearts for the children, it was nice if her and she felt a part of the wedding as she Had seen me grow up.

Also provided extra pairs of socks fir the kids we had bouncy castle at reception.... There was alot of children my family was huge.

We also were given loads of matchbooks as the stationary company printed the wrong name on all our ordered stationary... DH was most confused :)

Been married 15 years.... Still find little books of matches in drawers and cupboards very useful.

Ginandgingers92 · 17/11/2019 21:11

We had candles with our wedding 'emblem' on. Made by a friend and they smell amazing. Maybe more suitable for a winter/autumn wedding though

Outsomnia · 17/11/2019 21:15

Guests just want food after a long day traipsing around.

Favours end up in the bin anyway after a week or so.

Sorry now, save your money love.

elmosducks · 17/11/2019 21:16

We didn't have any. It's all just tat. The only ones I ever kept were pebbles with our names on

LoyaltyBonus · 17/11/2019 21:22

It didn't occur to me to do any. Afaik no one even noticed. What exactly do they add to the day?

I did get a beautiful handmade shortbread heart at one wedding, made by the bride's sister. They were lovely but even so seemed unecessary. At the other end of the scale we once got miniature perfume/aftershave bottles, which would have been ok, except in his speech the groom actually said "we hope you like the perfume, much nicer than the naff almonds you usually get" Shock

clippityclop · 17/11/2019 21:24

Our bridesmaids made our favours which were the traditional Itallian five sugared almonds in a tulle net tied with a ribbon. We had tags printed wishing our guests health, wealth, happiness, hope and good fortune. None were left and we've been asked to make them for friends.

restingbitchfacenot · 17/11/2019 21:54

I'm of Moroccan culture and we always have sugared almonds in little organza bags.

lovesapinot · 17/11/2019 21:54

First wedding I did Pashminas for the ladies and whisky flask for the gents.

Second wedding bottle of Prosecco each.

MzPumpkinPie · 17/11/2019 21:58

I bought a load of vintage fine china cups and saucers ( probably only 2 the same design of 100 sets ) and made natural soy lemon scented candles with them.
It was really easy, looked great as part of our shabby chic ( 10 yrs ago ) wedding and was part of table decor too.
You could do the same thing but in a more modern style ( say shot glasses or IKEA wine glasses ) and get some customised stickers.

daisydalrymple · 17/11/2019 21:59

We got married in December, so had big bowls of quality street in the middle of each table.
I’d suggest similar with mini Easter eggs?

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 17/11/2019 22:00

We had sticks of rock with our names and date of our wedding. We loved them, not sure if anyone else did!

For a spring wedding, how crafty are you? You could do little lot plants or spring flowers and also use these as part of your table decs?

M&ms will do specific coloured packs so you could have bowls of yellow m&ms on tables.

Our favours weren't mentioned but our toilet baskets were! ..... so in each toilet I put a basket with all items you may need. Breath freshener, mints, Chewing gum, plasters, hair pins, hair spray, sanitary products, silk tie wipes, safety pins, sewing kit, tissues, I would have included paracetamols but you need to be careful, can't think of anything else!

sakuramiyagi · 17/11/2019 22:01

We had candles for the adults and Rubik's cubes for the children.

Ladyratterley · 17/11/2019 22:03

We didn’t technically have favours. We had a beach side wedding and the place name thingys were shells with guests names written on them in calligraphy. There were only a few left at the end of the night so I think guests liked them.
