Secret wedding..how to find witnesses?? HELP!

Hello!

So me and my partner are booked in to the local Town Hall to be married on March 25th Grin for a secret wedding! The only problem is we need to find two witnesses. We don't have any family members or friends who could witness us so we're hoping to find two random people to help us out.

Has anyone had to find witnesses for their secret wedding before? If so how did you go about it?

TIA! Smile x

@KennDodd Yeah, I'd pay probably around £20 for somebody local to act as a witness for me. Depends on the couple though I guess. Some would pay more, some would pay less Smile

I’m no where near Leeds, but wanted to 1) wish you a wonderful day, and 2) say that I was 5 months pregnant on my wedding day and wore a normal wedding dress. I’m a size 14/16 and had picked the dress before I fell pregnant. I’d got a 16 with a view to having it taken in a little, but in the end just wore it as was and only needed the shoulder atraos shortening a little. It had a tie up back which gave me flexibility if I’d got much bigger, but as it was it ended up being tied as tight as possible as my bump seemed to disappear on the day!
Looking at my photos now, you’d never know I was pregnant!

Next day when I wore a jersey maxi dress, I was very clearly pregnant!!

Wishing you a wonderful wedding and a very happy marriage!

Mumtothenipper · 11/02/2019 21:50

*straps not atraos!!

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 11/02/2019 21:50

Can I volunteer myself as back up? I don’t work on a Monday and can normally be found in Leeds window shopping... Grin

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 11/02/2019 21:55

Gaaah - just realised it’s half term then.... sorry otherwise I would have loved to have been a back up Wink

Lungelady · 11/02/2019 22:13

Have a wonderful day...iti s a great venue!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 12/02/2019 08:09

I’d suggest maternity jeans and a nice top OP Smile

@WhoKnewBeefStew yeah that sounds good. I'm definitely wanting to keep it more simple like that. I don't like attention on myself so an actual wedding dress would be a little too much for me haha

Aw this is such a lovely thread, OP. I love that there are so many people willing to help you out 😌

I have the same problem! Getting married in Leatherhead, Surrey on 2nd March and need witnesses. For us it's just a formality and we don't want a fuss - so not telling family or friends. Registry office staff are not allowed to be witnesses, and I'm a bit worried about leaving it to the last minute and relying on random people in the street!

Barbthebuilder · 31/01/2020 18:09

Bumping for you! I'm sure you'll find someone on here who can help. I've been a Mumsnet wedding witness twice but Leatherhead is too far for me!

dementedma · 31/01/2020 18:13

I did it for someone on here who was getting married in Scotland. It was great fun.

Hello!

My partner and I are planning a small wedding just for the two of us and we are desperate to find a pair of witnesses. We were originally planning to use our childhood friends, but due to COVID19 none of them can travel to UK (they are based in Slovenia and Japan).

We are getting married in Reading Town Hall on Jun 6th 2020, and we would only need the witnesses for 1hr during ceremony. If anyone knows anyone who would be willing to jump in that would be great.

We are quiet desperate, so any help is great. Thank you.
