Anyone wear a non-traditional wedding dress?

By that, I mean not a floor length white gown?

I'm only having a small wedding, so thinking of buying a knee length (not expensive white dress, or maybe not even white at all.

Wondering if anyone else has done this, or if it's a bit weird?

I got married in a silvery lilac floor length Amanda Wakely evening gown.

Hedgehogblues · 22/12/2018 18:38

I wore jeans and a shirt

CoatTails · 22/12/2018 18:40

I wore a beautiful suit

YerAuntFanny · 22/12/2018 18:42

I wore this, felt and looked amazing (if I do say so myself :o).

No one said otherwise. A traditional dress/gown just wouldn't have been "me".

Wear what you feel comfortable in!

^That isn't me obviously!

Becles · 22/12/2018 18:43

Have a look at the Offbeat bride site

PragmaticWench · 22/12/2018 18:45

I wore an incredible dress in a really dark colour, no veil or flowers. Go for it!

We got married in St Ives when our children were young and I knew we'd end up on the beach so my only criteria was a dress I could paddle in. I ended up with a knee length dress from BHS which a local seamstress added some embellishments too. It cost less than £100 all in.

I’m going to wear a burgundy, 50s style dress and jacket when I get married in April. Bought it from Lindy Bop and will get alterations done locally closer to the day.

I wore a tea length dress, cocktail hat and sparkly blue shoes. It was a wedding dress and ivory coloured, but definitely slightly unusual and not a big old full length thing.

We had a barn dance at oir recpetion so it was amazing for spinning around in - I swapped my sparkly shoes for old plimsolls halfway through. Those are my favourite pictures from the day, everyoneleaping around and me in my dog walking shoes Grin

I'm wearing this in February. Second time around, so couldn't get behind the idea of another white dress.

I grew up in Asia, where wedding dresses are red, so I compromised on pink, which is a much better colour for me. White is for funerals in Chinese tradition.

At my first wedding I wore a dark silvery blue velvet tunic, with a gold tissue kimono thing that I was still sewing on the morning of the wedding (in case you imagine I'm some sort of domestic goddess, the reason it took me so long was that I kept sewing up the arms by mistake, it was only about 3 straight seams). It was a great outfit though I say so myself. I was a bit fat for it and popped a button off the trousers while going up the aisle Blush

It was by rather a long way the best thing about the marriage, mind.

Freddiepurrcury · 24/12/2018 16:10

Not weird at all. My wedding dress is a knee length black and sparkly prom dress.

QueenGoblin · 24/12/2018 16:12

I wore a raspberry coloured, just below the knee length dress from Coast.

I loved the colour. It even had pockets!

I tried on a lot of dresses - all sorts of traditional wedding dresses, as well as any and every floor length dress available in stores. A few were nice, some were awful. None of them felt right.

Wear what you are comfortable in and are happy to spend.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 24/12/2018 16:14

In year 2000, I wore a teal coloured long, slim dress from Monsoon which I wore with the matching long jacket.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 24/12/2018 16:15

Not quite what you asked, but Steam Punk bride here Xmas Grin

Mesmeri · 24/12/2018 16:19

My friend wore a beautiful tartan dress. It was dark purple and she looked amazing. White and traditional just wouldn't have been her.

Kleptronic · 24/12/2018 16:20

I wore this one.

I wore this , but it was made sleeveless for me. It's knee length cotton. I was really happy with it.

I didn't wear a white dress. It was still a weddingy type dress, like a ball gown. I didn't wear heels or make up.

FurryDogMother · 24/12/2018 16:40

It was the 80s. I wore a black velvet number with a high/low taffeta skirt and a massive Sarah Ferguson bow on my arse. I looked like a black pudding. The marriage only lasted 4 years. The second time I wore a flowery skirt, a white T-shirt and a cream jacket. Still married, 17 years on. I don't do conventional!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 24/12/2018 16:45

A yellow brides made dress first time (as seamstress cocked up my bespoke dress and that was all I could find at such short notice) and second time a gold brocade Bardot dress . Next time I'm going for a bikini !!!

Coffeeonadrip · 24/12/2018 16:49

I wore a mid length tulle skirt from boo hoo.com and a lacey top. Neither were white.

Lottapianos · 24/12/2018 16:56

Oh my gosh Lady, that's really stunning. Love it
