Hi all,
I need a bit of help! My partner has asked me to marry him and I'm getting my ring on Saturday. I can have up to 1 carat diamond ring. But he has stated that 1 carat is going to be too heavy for me to wear every day? If I want 1 carat I'll only be able to wear it on special occasions etc. Can any one advise on the perfect size because obviously I want to show it off and wear it every single day! I want some thing that is going to be comfortable and not something that I'll constantly be having to take off and put back on!
Thanks xx

What did you go for OP?

GrandTheftWalrus · 17/10/2018 15:31

Just want to add mine. Not sure if it's a diamond or not. DP was told it was.

Mine - 0.5ct, 6 prongs, platinum. I wanted a low setting so it didn’t catch on things, 6 prongs as more unusual than 4, and the setting underneath is like a flower, and platinum so it would stay that colour and not need constant redipping like white gold. I also didn’t want to run the risk of being allergic to any of the things white gold is mixed with, as I’m allergic to other metal. I love it, but suffice to say more consideration than just diamond size went into choosing it.

I have a large solitaire - well over 2 carats and I'm small with teeny hands and slim fingers. I love my ring and its never felt heavy or caught on anything. In fact, insurance is only valid if worn or locked in recommended safe. Only thing I do if feel in dodgy area / environment is to turn the stone inwards, palm down.

Go and have fun trying on a few different sizes and styles. A princess cut will look very different to a solitaire. I would say for that shape the cut is more important i.e. how much it sparkles than the size. I have a vintage cut cushion diamond that is just over 2 carats but size wise it looks more like a 1.5 solitaire. If you aren't used to wearing rings, any ring will feel a bit odd to begin with. I take mine off as soon as I get home and only wear it out of the house even though it's not heavy. Choose a thinner band and lower setting to feel more comfortable.

I have worn my 1ct pear every day for a decade. I wash up, clean the house, have looked after little kids, painted huge canvases etc and never have it been a problem. I only take it off for skiing or if we go to the beach just in case it falls off!

spanishwife · 12/11/2018 12:02

If you've ordered it online vs directly from a shop, make sure you go and get it valued. I did the same and it actually came out as worth an extra £800, but I wanted to be sure!

ALC03 · 12/11/2018 12:18

Thank you. OH has ordered previously from here and no issues

So your DP said you could have anything up to 1 carat, but then said he thought you should have a smaller diamond as that would be too heavy.

But you got 1.5 carat! Grin

Lila288 · 23/11/2018 17:09

YouCouldBeMe · 23/11/2018 19:49

It's beautiful! Congratulations

snowone · 23/11/2018 19:59

Mine is vintage - circa 1940 (ish) I couldn't tell you the carat of the diamond, I chose it because I loved it! I had so many ideas of what I wanted but when I tried them on I hated them. What you think you want doesn't always suit you - good luck finding the one!! Grin

ALC03 · 23/11/2018 20:27

Heartofglassone what an amazing idea!!! Grin

Argh not to repeat myself, but why the fuck can’t people read the thread? It’s only 3 pages long!

katseyes7 · 23/11/2018 22:23

Mine's two carats. lt's substantial but certainly not too heavy to wear every day.
