On my dress can I get some help?

It needs a wide sash to define your waist a bit more, but not in a contrasting colour, go for white.

CotswoldStrife · 24/03/2017 15:38

The top half doesn't match the bottom half to me - I think it's because the sleeves are so different (does the bodice have the same lace as an overlay?) and the neckline doesn't grab me either. It is a good length on you, though.

PollyBanana · 24/03/2017 15:38

Corsets can be bloody uncomfortable if they don't fit properly!
Get yourself a really good bra

SolomanDaisy · 24/03/2017 15:39

The corset will make a massive difference. It looks unflattering mostly because you aren't wearing a bra.

PollyBanana · 24/03/2017 15:40

It looks like it fits perfectly at your waist which means there won't be room for a corset

Gaaaah · 24/03/2017 15:40

I think it looks better with the ribbon. Love your shoes.

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 24/03/2017 15:41

Love the shoes
Like the dress style, but I think you need the ribbon!
Needs a good bra/corset

neonrainbow · 24/03/2017 15:42

I don't think it's very flattering. I don't like the very definite split between bodice and skirt. I think an A line would look better on your figure ie where the bodice flows into the skirt.

MadMags · 24/03/2017 15:42

What's under it will make a huge difference!

I do think it needs something around the waist. One of those bridal belts maybe?

I like it and I think you'll look great!

FallenSkies · 24/03/2017 15:44

The only thing I thought when I saw the picture was that it wasn't very flattering on your boobs. A good bra will sort that out. I love the dress, and think a coloured dash will draw in your waist nicely. I liked it with the red ribbon

DuckingGlitter · 24/03/2017 15:44

The length is just wrong and cuts you off at the wrong point, making you look very short and wide.

DuckingGlitter · 24/03/2017 15:47

It also needs to be shortened in the waist as the body looks like the dress is too long for you, it's doesn't look like it stops at the smallest part of your waist so is a bit unflattering. It's drawing the eye to the wider part of your torso rather than cinching you in.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 24/03/2017 15:47

The top half of the dress is beautiful but I'm less keen on the net skirt as like a previous poster pointed out it does remind me somewhat of a child's 'princess dress'

It is hard to comment though without seeing full length with hair/make up etc and the angle of the photo probably isn't helping

If you love it then that is really the most important thing though as tastes differ so you will never find a dress that 100% of MN will universally love!

BrightonBelleCat · 24/03/2017 15:50

I'm not 100% sure though. It feels comfortable and it's what I wanted just not sure.

I like the style and think it suits you but the top looks like it doesn't quite fit properly. It looks unfitted.

It's much better without the belt, and the red shoes don't look out of place. Just have some red in your hair or bouquet.

I think the sleeves would look better cut above your elbow. As it is I think it makes the dress look a bit cheap (sorry) because they look the wrong length and a bit baggy as they are.

I think the skirt would look lovely with a lace layer on top of all the netting following the style of the sleeves and bodice. It would look more complete that way.

OlennasWimple · 24/03/2017 15:51

I don't think it's the most flattering style you could find, and I'm not convinced that the top and bottom "work" together. The top is very elegant and refined, and the bottom is more playful.

What is your scope for adjusting it? (Budget, timeframe etc etc)

Mu123 · 24/03/2017 15:52

Wider ribbon and the boobs need better support/uplift

BrightonBelleCat · 24/03/2017 15:52

It's bought online so I can just send back.

Are you quite straight or is the skirt hiding your hips/waist

BrightonBelleCat · 24/03/2017 16:00

No I'm very curvy

I think you look fabulous 😀

loveka · 24/03/2017 16:05

Vivienne of Holloway do very similar styles.

If you don't love it don't keep it. Keep looking and you could always reorder it if you don't find anything else.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/03/2017 16:07

It looks like a cut-and-shut job of two different dresses. The top half is conservative and looks like it would suit a slightly older lady, the bottom half is a very young bridesmaid's skirt for twirling in at the disco.

Do you prefer one half of it to the other? Which part are you having doubts about?

MrsEvadneCake · 24/03/2017 16:08

I think the ribbon round the middle looks nicer than plain. The dress is lovely.
Good bra, nice ribbon round middle, pretty red things in hair. You'll look amazing.

dontpokethebear · 24/03/2017 16:10

The bodice is too short imo.
