I 'chose' a dress on Saturday, but I had an appointment at a different boutique today and because I like to make life difficult for myself, I went along.

And of course I fell head over heels in love with not one, but two beautiful dresses. I need a few completely objective opinions! If it helps, I'm 5ft 5-6 but will be in heels, size 8-10 with big boobs, long dark hair, fair skin.

Dress 1

Pros- lovely swishy skirt, I wanted something with a bit of swing and sway when when I walk. Nice thick beaded waistband which, with the cut of the bodice showed my figure off nicely.

Cons- exposes back fat, and cut quite low at the front (I have big boobs). Would have to have my hair up and my hairline on the nape of my neck is quite ugly. Needs an underskirt to give it a bit more of an a-line shape

Special something- lovely keyhole back and beading across the shoulders

Cost- £1180 (before alterations) and extra £80 to have buttons all the way down the skirt

Dress 2

Pros- beautiful elegant, classic style, makes my waist look tiny, fits really nicely across the bust. Cut low at the back so I can have my hair down. Lovely big (but not too princess-y) skirt with a gorgeous train.

Cons- more of a ball gown so less movement in the skirt. Nothing really 'different' about the actual style. Would have to buy a beaded belt separately. Could look a bit OTT at the reception venue which has quite a relaxed, fun vibe.

Special something- really gorgeous blush colour and buttons all the way down the back.

Cost- £1899 for a new one, or I could get the (size 14) sample I tried today for £895.

Dress 3

Pros- swishy skirt again, covers boobs without looking conservative or matronly. Back is covered but fabric under beading is sheer so you can still see my skin.

Cons- cut across the shoulders so arm movement would be a bit restricted. Beading would catch on the veil and other people's clothes. Would have to have hair up.

Special something- that gorgeous beading, catches the light and twinkles whichever way you look at it. Sparkly without making me look like a Christmas decoration.

Cost- £1580.

So... any thoughts?

Justin Alexander has so many beautiful dresses and number 3 is one I'm considering for my wedding next year!

Absolutely stunning imo.

1 is also lovely, not overly keen on 2 though

HamletsSister · 14/11/2016 22:55
  1. No question.
tappitytaptap · 14/11/2016 22:55

3 is gorgeous..how lovely and unusual, the beading is beautiful and I think would be very memorable. I also like 1, especially the back (am a fan of an unusual back, had my wedding dress altered to make it backless). 2 is ok but a bit dull - as you say, could be made more interesting with a belt etc but I prefer the others.

  1. Gorgeous. Wish I could get married ( to DH ) again...
goldielookingchain · 14/11/2016 22:58

Dress 1 by far!!

WanderingNotLost · 14/11/2016 23:07

What sets 2 apart is the gorgeous blush colour- those pictures really don't do it justice!

This is the pic I took of them side by side in the shop...

3 is also the most church friendly in terms of covering up.

2.looks like it could fall down at any moment.

myyoyo · 14/11/2016 23:10

3

That pic makes me say 2 even more! What a lovely colour.

I just don't think the bodice of 3 works. The beading and ruching/pleating together is too much - like 2 dresses spliced together.

myyoyo · 14/11/2016 23:13

2 looks better on the hanger

BlackDoglet · 14/11/2016 23:28

Number 3 - it's beautiful.
Definitely No3 StarStar

Another vote for 3. I think that neckline will be far nicer on a large bust. You might look very busty in the others.

DramaAlpaca · 14/11/2016 23:41

Yet another vote for 3, it's gorgeous.

indigox · 14/11/2016 23:42

2 or 3

Toolateagain · 14/11/2016 23:42

1 or 3, I have a slight preference for 1 but it would depend which looks best on you. Really not keen on 2.

3boys3dogshelp · 14/11/2016 23:46

3! It's absolutely beautiful and looks as very expensive.
Beware of ordering a corseted strapless dress after trying a bigger size if you have big boobs. When your own dress arrives in your size the fit is likely to be much less modest .

OlennasWimple · 14/11/2016 23:53

Three is beautiful - you could wear a veil for the service then take it off for the reception and have a lovely hair piece instead

Blush is lovely, but the dress is otherwise unmemorable - and blush can be tricky to accessorise. I have a prejudice against strapless, though!

One is OK, but if you are at all worried about how your back would look, and would feel constricted to a hair style you don't want, it's not the right dress for you

cheekyfunkymonkey · 14/11/2016 23:54

1is the one!

OlennasWimple · 14/11/2016 23:56

If the cost of #3 is a concern, there are some great dresses by the same designer on eBay, such as this one

OlennasWimple · 15/11/2016 00:00

And there are similar dresses with the swishy chiffon skirt but with slightly different shoulders, if you are really concerned about that, such as this

AmeliaJack · 15/11/2016 00:04

Number 3. It's really very beautiful.

bummymummy77 · 15/11/2016 00:22

How big is your butt? In relation to your boobs and shoulders? With big boobs I'd possibly avoid number 3

GinThief · 15/11/2016 01:04

2 is my favourite, beautiful colour & love the button detail

MadisonAvenue · 15/11/2016 01:21

3 is gorgeous!
