Because I can't find the bloomin' Weddings topic!
I'm getting married sometime next year and I have no idea how much anything costs.
So go on how much was yours? Grin

Fabric cost £80ish, and my mum made it.

Accessories (inc. jewellery), probably about £150 more. I remember the earrings cost more than the dress!

Tartymuffin · 21/08/2012 18:45

That was 2004 btw.

elliejjtiny · 21/08/2012 18:49

£370 in 2003. Included alterations and a cathedral length veil and a comb thing with flowers on that they sewed onto the veil

Minstrelsaremarvellous · 21/08/2012 18:50

£7000 but I could afford it and it was beautiful. A Vera Wang and the curse of the designer struck again. Marriage barely lasted 2 years.
However I spent £200 on my dress when
I married my DH and I felt a MILLION dollars. He treats me like a princess and my dress was gorgeous!

ProPerformer · 21/08/2012 18:53

£500. A friend made it for me.
In a shop it would have cost far far more to have it handmade (the one it was based on was £2000!!) and would have prob used much cheaper materials. My friend did the 'labour' for free as a wedding present, the reason it cost so much was that she used (with permission) material from a VERY posh shop - one that's 'by royal command' and many of the queen's Taylor's use it. Was loads of fun choosing the materials Grin

£1,000, reduced from £1,300. It was a beaautiful creation from India.

Desperate to wear it again but sadly that wont ever happen.

If i got married again i would spend less on the dress and some mmoney on hair and make up....it was a botch job by a friend Sad

elfycat · 21/08/2012 18:57

£550 8 years ago, but I was in a position to wear it to a couple of balls after that as it was the dress in the window at Christmas and was red with white embroidery

nutellaontoast · 21/08/2012 19:01

£50 on a lovely ivory silk number from Monsoon on sale, alterations another £50, it was gorgeous.

But if I could do it again I'd go ghost and get some good undergarments Grin - and wear hush puppy heels that FIT WELL. (seriously, think about the amount of pain your shoes will cause, the number of hobbling brides I have seen and it's not a good look...)

TequilaMockinBird · 21/08/2012 19:03

Mine was reduced to £900 but had been nearer £2000

OBface · 21/08/2012 19:05

£3700. Probably quite a lot of money seeing costs on here but then can afford it. After trying it on I spent another few months looking for a cheaper alternative but nothing came close.

Wasn't a massive poofy job FWIW, was this Jenny Packham (probably not the best link as the girl blogging didn't choose it in the end - only picture I could find!). You can't really see the detail in the picture but had lots of layers and was very vintagey - perfect for our black tie 20th December wedding.

Have no regrets in buying it.

vnmum · 21/08/2012 19:06

£850 ten years ago. I have worn the corset once since I got married. I put it with a formal skirt for a winter ball

YouBrokeMySmoulder · 21/08/2012 19:07

150 Viv in the sale.

ChameleonCircuit · 21/08/2012 19:08

£1500 in 1998. It was made for me by the same women who did a lot of the wedding dresses for Emmerdale. I still have it, can't bear to part with it.

MrsApplepants · 21/08/2012 19:14

£2750 in 2005. Veil and tiara was more, but cant remember how much they cost. My parents paid for it luckily! It pure silk and chantilly lace from Ritva Westenius. I still love the dress!

OBface, that dress is pretty much what I picture myself in! Jenny Packham and Yolan Cris are my favourite designers so far. But maybe a little expensive for me!

OhTheConfusion · 21/08/2012 19:21

£1950 for dress, £400 for bolero, £120 for underskirt/hoop, £350 for veil plus alterations... grand total of £2970.

I was very lucky that my parents paid for it and I really did love my dress.

It's all the extras that add up.

rarebreed · 21/08/2012 19:24

£550, gorgeous dress, was a sample and reduced from £1300, this year. Will get to wear it in two weeks Grin

SoleSource · 21/08/2012 19:25

Mine was made with a few Tesco carrier bags. Free.

TruthSweet · 21/08/2012 19:26

Originally I was wearing a 'Cadbury's Purple' evening dress bought by DH, but my friends were messing about trying on evening dresses in Debenhams and insisted I tried on a couple of wedding dresses. I found one that I fell in love with in the sample sale and it was £200. It did cost more than that really as it meant the shoes/bag/accessories had to be changed but I did all that on the cheap via Ebay and internet discounters. It was all kept secret from DH and he had no idea.

DH got the shock of his life as the car door opened at the registery office as he thought someone couldn't be so insensitive to wear a full length ivory dress on my wedding day and travel in the wedding car only to find it was me in the ivory dress!

He was very pleased though as secretly he'd had worried I would regret not wearing a 'traditional' wedding dress.

laracroft2001 · 21/08/2012 19:26

£70 made to measure from china. Absolutely beautiful and fit perfectly. Last year

TruthSweet · 21/08/2012 19:26

We got married in 2004 btw.

Mine was £650 (was supposed to be £800) but got discount cos my wedding was at the venue the shop did the fashion shows for. I'm not a girlie girl n hadn't worn a dress since I was little. But for that one day I wanted to look n feel bloomin amazing. Objective achieved Grin

OBface · 21/08/2012 19:34

Ambrosius I really do think if you're a Jenny Packham girl you are a Jenny Packham girl! I visited many many boutiques after JP and nothing felt right - they're just a very different sort of dress.

I would really recommend going to the actual shop in Belgravia. All the dresses are there to try and the staff much less snooty than other places I went to. I actually don't think it's too expensive either, in 2008 I seem to remember the dresses starting at around 1500k (I just managed to pick one of the more expensive ones!) which is line with a lot of other places and really good quality. I had an awful experience at another boutique close by where I couldn't believe the cheap material, IMO, used for a 2k dress.

Jenny Packham is very popular with la Middleton as well don't you know Grin
