Heads up for those who like a good thunderstorm. looks like there could be widespread thunderstorms. (I'm not great at predicting them myself so am relying heavily on weather forums for this one) nothing too severe showing on the cards - maybe some hail.

usualsuspect · 23/04/2010 20:32

Oooh I like a good storm ..but I'm going to a barbecue on Sunday

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 20:33

I think you'll be ok in the SW but as I say, not my strong point.

you can send any threatening clouds to me

lol usualsuspect - that pretty much guarantees the outcome of the weather.

Oh i love a good storm ever since i was small i would get up and out of bed to watch them - do you know where they are predicting them for?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 20:39

I think they are expected to be pretty widespread, with the midlands being a good spot for more organised storms.

usualsuspect · 23/04/2010 20:41

tut ...I live in the midlands OYBBK can you shut up now

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/04/2010 20:42

Doesn't look as though much is going to happen in London according to the met office website. I feel sorry for the poor marathon runners on Sunday, it looks as though it's going to be too warm for comfortable running.

CoinOperatedGirl · 23/04/2010 20:55

I love storms, yay! Don't remember having any really decent ones here in the SE, although we had some whoppers when in the NE. I love it when it rains so hard it bounces half way up your legs.

Actually I do remember me and dd walking up our road one summers day absolutely drenched to the skin, with dd dancing and jumping in puddles lol that was great.

rosieposey · 23/04/2010 20:57

Ok well ill keep my fingers crossed - im in Swindon - thanks for the heads up OYBK

petunia · 24/04/2010 07:08

Ooo, love a good storm.
(Hope any stormy weather is over my part of the midlands and not over usualsuspect's bit!)

ProfYaffle · 24/04/2010 07:12

My allotment needs a good downpour - that's pretty much a guarantee for it to miss us

MaureenMLove · 24/04/2010 07:36

I'm doing the Marathon spectator bit again tomorrow Bran. DOesn't look like I'll be able to get over your side though. The foot tunnel is closed for refurb!!

Meglet · 24/04/2010 07:39

My water butt was empty over a week ago.

Can I please arrange for a nice overnight storm to fill it up and the sun to come out in the day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2010 08:33

oh gosh, I forgot it was the marathon tomorrow.

interestingly met office don't seem to be really showing the potential and just show scattered showers (including in the sw)
weather forums seem less optimistic too.

hey ho. hope we do get at least some showers for my poor garden.

oooh I love storms, any look likely near Manchester?

We had quite a few last year, more than we had for a while.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2010 09:10

possibly manky
just having crash course in thunderstorm predictions...

lifted index looks like a LI of -3 for the midlands. also looked at cape values which still look highest in midlands tomorrow evening.

cool tool!

What about Scotland?
I want DD to see it's exciting and nothing to be scared of.
Kitten, I remember when I was young my Grandad had an encyclopaedia-type book and I was always looking at the pages about weather. Was fascinated by storms in particular and lightning.

mankyscotslass · 24/04/2010 09:17

Did you see the footage of the tornados in Texas? I think they said 6 twisters touched down, they are predicting and active tornado season.

So far no injuries reported.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2010 12:45

Scotland doesnt seem to be in the firing line I'm afraid MadameO. How lovely about the book life long memories!

manky - not seen that, will go and have a look. Seems to have been a late start to the tornado season this year. I know that there are a few TORRO members heading out soon, so they will be pleased its started!

what sort of time are we talking for these storms? i have to do about 4 hours drivig to collect ds from his weekend at his dad's. Its going to make it hell if the storms occur at that time and i do enjoy a good storm.

Talking pennines, midlands, and the east.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/04/2010 13:17

Mid afternoon to evening I think.
I'm keeping an eye on torro to see if they issue a convective discussion (surprised they havent yet tbh)

Slugbrains · 24/04/2010 13:18

bugger. oh well. that's life.

MadameOvary · 24/04/2010 15:36

Thanks for that Kitten.
