I feel really remiss not to have noticed how bad things are becoming in Scotland. I must apologise to you all up there. i see that in some parts there have been exceptional amounts even for those of you who are more used to it. Will go and have a look at the situation.

updated warnings here with potential for 50cm+ lying by the end of today.

Yes at last the DCs have a day off school (were disgusted not to last time) - more snow here in central scotland than we had last time and still coming down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2010 09:14

Fortunately, although it continues to be a severe situation, it does look like the snowfall at least won't be quite so heavy through the rest of the day (according to my inexpert eyes)

We have probably had almost 2 foot over the last 24 hours or so.

Bear in mind that we had fresh snow a few days before that followed by -15 temps. And the snow from December was still lying on the ground!

oricella · 25/02/2010 11:31

Still snowing heavily north of Inverness - pretty slushy here at sealevel, but friend from next village, which is slightly up, phoned to say she can't get out and has 20 cm or so

Schools are shut, but nursery opened thankfully - hope it's all gone by saturday or it will mess up our travel

Sherbert37 · 25/02/2010 11:44

About 6 inches so far and still snowing. Much worse than last time although that froze over and one snowfall was with us for nearly a month.

Bumnoise · 25/02/2010 11:46

Very bad here Aberdeenshire, must be at least 40cm (too cold to go and measure it) [wuss] and on that's top of some of the dumping just before Christmas that we still had.

lal123 · 25/02/2010 11:50

you poor things - I'm in Dundee, and its pissing it down here! First time I think I've been glad to see the rain! I hate snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2010 12:15

hope you all don't get too much damage to gutters etc. A lot of weight for structures to bear.

We are just south of Glasgow - East Ren has just closed most of it's schools for the rest of today. It is still snowing here.....

BariatricObama · 25/02/2010 13:06

dh is in glasgow. ltos of snow apparently. just cold and wet here though (edin). pissy pissy pissy. i want spring!

Wallace · 25/02/2010 13:48

Another foot forecast for here

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2010 18:52

blimey Wallace!! hope you have supplies in! do you need emergency choc helicoptering in?

OP posts:
Wallace · 25/02/2010 18:59

Met office says Aviemore has 42cm but we definitely have more than that. Luckily dh has alrwady done the emergency choc job - he went to the nearest Tesco (he has 4 wheel drive) and as well as the basics he came back with 2 jars of nutella

School off again tomorrow. It did stop snowing briefly at about 5, but started again but not heavily at mo.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2010 20:11

Thank goodness you have chocolate. But what about wine? wine is important too!

OP posts:
Finona · 25/02/2010 20:18

We have wine . DC bedded so about to tuck in as there will be neither school or work tomorrow I think. Over a foot here in Moray since tea time last night - and like Bumnoise, it's just on top of the snow that has been lying since it started on 18th Dec last year. It has been snowing constantly all day.
But thank you badkitten for your interest - you could be forgiven for not knowing how bad it was given the amount of coverage it got on the 'national' news.

frasersmummy · 25/02/2010 20:25

just west of Glasgow... what snow???

Yes it has fallen but interspersed with soo much rain that none of it has lain !!!

Its really weird my friends 10 mins up the road managed to make a snowman!!

Wallace · 25/02/2010 20:31

Snowing heavily again here.

I can't remember what grass looks like. Oh yes I can - last weekend we went down south (Dunfermline) and it was like a different world

Re wine - I'm not very good with wine I'm afraid. I have a couple of glasses then put the bottle in the fridge for another evening and forget to drink the rest

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2010 22:38

Finona - I am that there was nothing on bbc news about it. I know they tend to ignore weather up there but this is really exceptional stuff. Has just been talked about on forecast though. But really....How could they ignore this?!
Glad you have wine!

Where I am we have no snow, but in the countryside all around us there is is loads of snow and the roads are really bad, The Drumochter pass is closed, Auchterarder had powercuts. Someone from Crieff was in my work today and said that coming from Crieff, into the town where I am, there was loads of snow then it was just like someone had drawn a line across the road and there was no more snow.

It rained here all day today, to be honest I think I'd rather go back to the snow we had over Christmas and New Year and most of January, where the temperatures never got any higher than -12 and the river froze.
