Ok, have had a quick look. Today is bringing the expected heavy rain to many with surface flooding expected/occuring

Tomorrow looks like a fine day

Then looking a little further ahead, I'm very interested in wednesday, particularly for central and perhaps northern areas. Although the met office has rain down for then (apart from a bit of snow in Eastern Scotland) I think at the moment it could potentially become a rain turning into snow event. Colder air comes in for a time and with heavy precipitation, I think it may turn to snow.

One to keep an eye on. I will update as things go on.

I should also have added, that longer term it looks like we are in for a milder spell for a while.

Thanks kitten. I think I must be one of a very small minority still hoping that we'll have more really cold weather, so I'm not that thrilled at the prospect of a milder spell. I'll keep looking out for a thread from you to tell us that the cold is on its way back

Dh went out this morning and said that there is rubbish everywhere now that the snow has melted, cos the dustbin men haven't been for weeks and it's just piled up everywhere . So maybe a mild spell will be good to get everything back to normal.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2010 10:29

about the rubbish.

I would love some more snow but would like just a bit of a break from it to get supplies in, tidy the garden and for the bin men to be able to come round!

OP posts:
SlartyBartFast · 16/01/2010 10:35

are bin men came yesterday, my bin was pilied sky high, however the recycling bottle bank is totally full.

thought i had heard also that the cold/snow would return.

WhereChaosTheoryRules · 16/01/2010 10:46

glad for a break in the weather. need to get to places that have been snowed in. Love the snow though hate cold wet miserable rain. snow tis much prettier. just wish we knew how to cope with it and had the infrastructure to do so. would be much better then.

SlartyBartFast · 16/01/2010 11:10

same here, like the tip for one.

juneybean · 16/01/2010 11:13

Sorry to go off topic but I had a dream about you BBK lol, can't remember what happened just remember seeing your username haha

petunia · 16/01/2010 12:17

The metoffice have issued a weather warning for Wednesday. Rain turning to snow, especially over high ground.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2010 14:27

Really Petunia?

oh yes

petunia · 16/01/2010 16:38

Hey, well done OYBBK for getting in there before the Metoffice!

We still have a tiny bit of snow left in the garden; it's where we built a snowman. It's like a little bump with a few twigs coming from it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/01/2010 22:30

bumping as the potential still seems to be there.

Situation still seems similar to me, but I think it is still on a knife edge really. Still looks like a rain turning to snow scenario to my (very) inexpert eyes. Much will depend on timings really.

Tuesday/wednesday seems to be becoming a reoccurring pattern

Peachy · 17/01/2010 15:54

In^really* like snow but why is it always a Wednesday? (S E Wales here)

Wednesday is my shopping day, cancelled last week, will be again,Can't make it other days becuaseof fiddly crapreasons.

Please Mr Snow make it Thursday instead, thank you.

Peachy · 17/01/2010 15:55

(at least rubbish finally went yesterday I guess0

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2010 17:44

It is really quite odd that it seems to be Wednesdays! (timed to get dds orchestra and riverford cancelled)

It doesn't look like this batch will last long, a day or two with a bit of a warm up on Friday. Start of Feb looks very cold at the moment I think.

Hiya OYBBK! How's it looking for scotland? North Lanarkshire area.

Think we've had it mild here compared to the rest of the country. Only a couple of really bad falls, and pratically none left whatsoever now.

I hate the snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2010 21:08

Invisibleman, I'm not quite sure about wednesday for you. the met office has it as dry for you, then snow on thursday, but the 12z gfs does seem to have some precipitation on wednesday that looking at the temps (surface and aloft) I think could be snow. some of the other models are saying dry, others have precip. I'll have another look for you tomorrow and see which way they are going.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2010 09:29

ok.
It looks much more marginal for snow on Wednesday now. Looking much more like a wintry mix with I think snow being confined to high ground. Upper temps look too warm to me and I think we will probably see the met office warnings disappearing at lunchtime.

(Invisibleman, will have a look at lunch again for you )

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2010 13:00

ok, met office still seem to think that the possibilty remains, so don't breathe a sigh of relief just cos I'm not convinced, they have rather more expertise

OP posts:
geordieminx · 18/01/2010 15:22

I came on to ask the same as theinvisibleman

I'm travelling up from newcastle to Glasgow on Thursday evening with ds on the train - have seen the heavy snow forecast and am starting to stress a bit - you know what the trains are like!
