@ohyoubadbadkitten do you have any thoughts yet on Storm Kathleen? I'm meant to be driving across Wales to Birmingham on Saturday and am wondering whether I should consider rescheduling. Thank you so much as always!

Watching. DS is off on a gold DOE practice in the Brecon Beacons this weekend. Mildly worried.

Cumulonimbusincus · 03/04/2024 19:09

@MotherOfCatBoy we're just north of the Brecon Beacons, I'd be uneasy too. Fingers crossed the weather either holds off or they postpone.

Thanks @Cumulonimbusincus He starts Sunday. I worry about the wind more than the rain.. waiting to see if the forecast changes or if actual weather warnings appear.

Magyk · 04/04/2024 17:47

I’m flying Manchester to Inverness leaving at 9:15 Saturday morning. Eek

Westfacing · 05/04/2024 12:25

The wind is whipping up in SW London - forecast to be 40mph around 13.00 - I assume this is Kathleen.

GloriaSmud · 05/04/2024 13:07

It's a bit breezy here (Leicester) and a warm 16C.

Westfacing ~ It's looking a bit gusty this afternoon but I think this evening (especially in the SW) will be when Kathleen will really begin to be felt.

Magyk · 05/04/2024 15:24

@GloriaSmud any thought on my flight Manchester to Inverness at 9:15am Saturday?

GloriaSmud · 05/04/2024 18:01

@Magyk ~ it could be a bit of a bumpy take-off but it should be ok.

Perihelion · 05/04/2024 18:05

16C GloriaSmud* ?
6C and pushing down. There was wet snow earlier. Drains can't cope with that amount of water.
The flight to Inverness should be fine for landing, as the wind wat ING isn't that far North.

Mumaway · 05/04/2024 18:06

Warm and calm in Manchester. I am not going to Bowness tomorrow though because of forecast

GloriaSmud · 05/04/2024 18:10

I know Perihelion ~ it's several seasons in one country at the moment.

Cumulonimbusincus · 05/04/2024 19:05

Blowing up here in mid-Wales but curiously warm. The river is already filling the floodplain, more rain predicted tomorrow.

I'm afraid I'm going to be around very little indeed over the next few weeks and I've not had chance to look properly. (for those who don't know Kathleen was named by Met Éireann officially)

Hope all ok in your world @OhYouBadBadKitten

Updated thoughts from Netweather.

It looks like most of the UK could be in for a windy day (west coast of Ireland is going to get the brunt of the storm today) but it's this evening and going into tonight, that the west coast of Scotland gets hit as the storm moves northwards.

Storm Kathleen - Gales and Gusts with a sliver of warmth

A windy weekend. There will be more rain but Storm Kathleen is mostly about gales and gusts. Saturday brings a bonus bit of warmth for part of the UK.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 06/04/2024 09:36

It's very wild and windy...fierce windy!... in Co. Cork at present 💨💨💨 Last night we had torrential rain.

Magyk · 06/04/2024 11:05

Flight was fine, bumpier than usual but not bad considering it was a tiny jet. Landing was the best I’ve had too. We are near where the storm hits tomorrow but can hunker down.

Perihelion · 06/04/2024 13:08

It's not rained today, the sun is out, 16C and it's blowing a hoolie 😂

daisychain01 · 06/04/2024 13:26

It isnt nearly as extreme as I thought it was going to be (yet!)

I did hear the wind howling overnight but so far today it has been fine for me to go out for a walk and do some gardening as it's mild and dry for a change.

Im wondering if tomorrow (Sunday) will be worse....

Rowgtfc72 · 07/04/2024 10:46

East coast of england here. Warm but ridiculously windy. Local weather says 40 to 50 mph gusts and I can well believe it.

MotherOfCatBoy · 08/04/2024 08:13

Well DS survived Day 1 of DOE in the Black Mountains though from his texts he sounded knackered. Very long and muddy apparently and all cold and wet at the end. Saving grace is that the campsite field was so waterlogged the organisers had to Plan B it and put them in a bunkhouse for the night so at least he got a proper bed. Two more days to go, not as windy, but still very wet forecast!

Cumulonimbusincus · 08/04/2024 16:28

@MotherOfCatBoy I was going to ask how he got on. We’re the other side of the Eppynt from the Beacons and I was thinking about him yesterday while the rain was lashing down. Glad he had the luxury (!) of a bunkhouse, that really makes all the difference.
