I’m in the north west too, getting very windy out there now!

The Met Office warning is for Thursday, essentially for everywhere north of Birmingham, so if you're either

  • travelling at other times, or
  • a softie southerner

you should be OK (fingers crossed)

Weather warning issued by the metoffice.

Northern Scotland will get hit the hardest and looks like travel such as the ferries are already affected with services being cancelled. The strong winds could also cause problems over high ground such as the Peak District. And then there's the possibility of flooding down North Sea coasts as there could be a storm surge.

(It's Storm Pia as it's been named by the Danish Metoffice as it looks like Denmark will get the strongest winds ~ bit of info on the naming of storms here ~ included in Netweather's thoughts on the storm. )

Wind really picking up here (west Scotland) in for a noisy night, hope here's not too much disruption tomorrow.

Picking up here in Cheshire. Looks like a couple of days of frisky weather again.

Winds are picking up in West Yorkshire.

thankfully, none of us have to leave the house tomorrow so dont have to battle through it to do the school run etc

I have taken the wreath off the door for fear it will end up coming off & breaking.

Really noisy here.

Argyll&Bute.
The entire house is creaking, it sounds worth than the 54 mph that BBC thinks we should have right now.

London back here too, live on a corner and always windy but very bad tonight, I don't like it howling. X

East coast here. Absolutely howling outside.
Dogs just barked at the wreath banging on the front door.
Local weather station says 18mph winds 40mph gusts.
Got to bike to work in an hour!

West coast of Scotland, right next to the sea. It's absolutely howling and battering the windows and roof tiles. Been awake for hours. Sounds worse than the forecast.

i am awake because of the wind! Recycling bins are out and now are being blown up and down the street. I have been out twice and retrieved my bin, it’s contents from neighbours gardens and my Christmas decorations which were taking off!!

the main noise is bins. Keep them secure and not too close to cars! Don’t see and trees down yet.

oh and my neighbours bloody wind chimes are in full song tonight😂

North east too, dogs aren’t happy. Daughter flying home from Amsterdam in the morning.

Another one here awake because of the wind it's so fucking loud. I've spent the last hour idly watching stuff being blown away including a neighbours wheelie bin which he forgot to bring in once emptied.

Also awake here and sat up with a cuppa. According to bbc weather the height of the wind is in the next hour or so with 56mph locally in this part of Cheshire. Can’t recall it being quite so windy for a while. The whole house is creaking and I can feel the pressure changes and the windows rattling. Too dark to see what’s going on outside.

Report
Bellyblueboy · 21/12/2023 05:53

there is a banging outside and I can’t figure out what it is! I have been out three times. Might be neighbours gate. I have some awkward neighbours and if it’s on my property I will hear all about tomorrow🫣.

I need to be up at 6:30am - have given up on sleep!

North east here too. The wind is raging. I’m expecting trees down around our way today. It’s bloody loud and woke me up in the night and early again today

Derbyshire here - it's absolutely going crackers outside, it's so so loud, I'm surprised DP and DS haven't woken up. I don't mind the wind usually but this is really strong and feels a bit unsettling!
